*Yawn*
He yawned for the umpteen time today showing just how bored he was, for anyone else magic classes were the absolute best, you get to learn cool new spells which would help them get stronger and give them a chance to become one of the nobles or even better one of the 12 kings.
Every person in the world would do absolutely anything to become even the lowest ranking noble, but not this young man sitting here much to his teacher's annoyance.
"Mr. Ethan if my class is so boring, why don't you leave?" his teacher, Mr. Eli, asked. If Ethan was a bad student, he would have kicked him out without warning, but the young man was diligent in his schoolwork (never getting bad grades), heck he would even call the kid a genius if not for him not being able to use magic. The only problem with this young man was, he had zero motivation.
"Sorry sir, I slept late researching yesterday" he lied with a straight face. Yes, he did do research on the old and forgotten subject, runes, but he's not the least bit sleepy just extremely bored since he knew all the ins and outs of every type of magic, although they won't work for him.
*sigh* "let's continue the class" Mr. Eli said turning back to the board.
Ethan tried listening to the class this time, trying his best not to show how bored he was.
In this world, from humans down to even rocks contained a special energy called mana. If a lifeform contains a certain amount of mana, they are qualified to bound their mana with an element which in turn allows them to use magic. If a human can use magic, he/she is recognized as a noble and their noble rank is determined by their mana capacity. Low ranking nobles have a mana capacity ranging from F to D, while mid rank nobles range from C to B and A to S for high-ranking nobles. The ones at the top of the world are called Kings and humanity has only been able to see 12 in it's history of magic, their mana capacity range from SS to SSS, they are so ridiculously strong that even the weakest king with SS mana capacity could go toe to toe with a dragon who are known as the mana progenitors second only to elves, a feat which even with the combined powers of high rank to low rank nobles can't accomplish.
Ethan on the other hand, couldn't use magic, not because he lacked mana, but because for some weird reason he couldn't bond his mana with any element. According to some rumors going around school, Ethan's mana capacity was so high a high elf's mana would look like a drop in his mana, though most don't believe it, I mean come on, even an SSS rank king only has the mana capacity of a high dragon which is only a step below a high elf.
Although Ethan couldn't use magic, no one in his school looked down on him, not openly at least (well except sons and daughters of high nobles and some kings), for one he is dubbed the unfortunate genius due to the theories he has released so far like the theory of imbuedment, which allowed them to input mana to objects, for example making a lamp run on mana. This theory and its industry alone could allow Ethan to live a carefree life for the rest of his life since he is the owner of one of the biggest industries in the world, MagiTech Industries.
Two, his three fiancés' are absolutely crazy when it comes to Ethan, thinking about hurting him? Pray they don't find out (which is impossible). Once, the son of a high-ranking noble had the guts to pour juice on Ethan's head since he deemed Ethan 'a waste of the school's resources', ignoring his friend's warning and determined to make Ethan quit school. He went missing the same day and was seen being returned by one of Ethan's fiancé's guards the next day, covered in fluids which may or may not be juice (it was totally not juice). What makes the three girls more fearsome was their strength, yes, they were no weaker than kings and not just SS rank but SSS rank kings.
With Ethan's riches and three strong ladies backing him, he could live as a bum if he wanted to, but no, Ethan wasn't satisfied with just these, he wanted to use actual magic not run a company, become a researcher or even worse a professor. At first, nothing worked, he developed mana imbuement theory just to see if he could borrow magic from his fiancés but that didn't work. Nothing was working till he found a book titled 'runes' in his dad's library. Runes were the earliest ways humans used magic but due to the mana cost it wasn't practical, so humans discovered how to bind their mana with elements they had high affinity with, the downside was you could only use one element except in rare cases, but this was fine since humans became a lot stronger.
Due to its high mana requirement, runes were completely forgotten about, but this was perfect for someone like Ethan since he had almost infinite mana, yes the rumors were right underplayed even, luckily, he measured his mana in private with just his family and his three fiancés while he was just 10 years old. For the past 2 years, he was focused on researching runes and today he'll finally get results.
