Adela saw General Snow and his daughter walk in, and it immediately soured her mood a little.
"Oh great," she muttered while looking in their direction.
Caroline, who was with her, looked where she was looking.
"Oh," she said, "Is that Azzie? She looks good."
Adela looked at her sister, who was gazing admiringly at the woman in question.
"You know," Caroline said, "I like that dress. I think I will get one like it. Do you think she will tell me where she got it if I asked?"
Adela took a calming breath, diverted her attention from her sister's happy chatter, and looked around the ballroom. She saw her fiancé, King Gustav of Myria, talking with his cousin, Queen Miriam, and her husband. Caroline's husband was standing with his brother by the bar, talking with someone she had been told was the Minister of Education in Rhodes.
"What is she doing here?!" Caroline gasped, and Adela looked at her with disapproval.
