Chapter 3: Choosing a gift.

As soon as she finished the introductions, Destiny got up and bowed before Alice.

"Alice, I am so sorry."

Seeing that, I froze up. I had no idea what was happening, and seeing a Goddess bowing to me was intimidating.

"Please raise your head. I don't understand. Why are you apologizing?"

Destiny sat back behind the desk and said

"You see… It's my fault that you had such a hard life. When a new soul like yours is born into the world, it has no karma. But because I messed up, you ended up with such terrible karma.

I didn't understand what Destiny was talking about, and it was probably showing on my face, so Charon began to explain.

"You see, when a Mortal dies, his soul is judged by me. He receives karma depending on this soul's deeds and influence over other souls when he was alive. Good deeds and influence give him good karma, and bad actions the opposite."

"Ok, I understand. But what about me."

This time it was Destiny who answered.

"It is my job to assign karma to a soul depending on my husband's judgment. But I messed up when you were born. Like I said before, a new soul like yours shouldn't have any karma because there is nothing to judge in a newborn soul. Unfortunately, massive bad karma got attached to your soul. By the time I realized my mistake, you were already born."

Hearing that explanation was shocking to me. I couldn't help but be angry, but after seeing the tears in Destiny's eyes, I calmed down. After collecting myself, I asked.

"You mean I suffered so much because of a mistake? Why did you not do anything about it?"

"No, It was impossible. Gods cannot interfere with Earth. "

"Why? You are Gods. Don't you have unlimited powers?"

"No, we don't," explained Destiny. "We are bound by the universe's rules. We could have done something if you were in any other world, but Earth is a special case. Earth is a testing ground for souls, you see."

"A testing ground for what?"

"For selecting souls who have a chance to reach Godhood."

I was even more shocked by what I just heard. It took me some time to digest those new pieces of information. After a moment, I couldn't help but try to satisfy my curiosity.

"Is it okay for me to know about this? How does it work?"

Charon gently smiled after hearing my questions and said

"Don't worry, it's okay because you are not returning to Earth. You were approved to be reincarnated in a superior world. What we are telling you is not exactly common knowledge there, but it's still available."

After a brief pause, he added.

"To answer your other question. First, a new soul is born on Earth and lives its first life. From it, it gains karma, you remember?"

I nodded to his question.

"Good, after that, there are three options. First, if the soul's karma is insufficient, regardless of its type, you get reincarnated on Earth. Second, if it has enough good karma, it is reincarnated in one of the many superior worlds and gets a chance to attain Godhood. And lastly, if it has too much bad karma, the soul gets obliterated."

"Does it mean there are only good people in the superior worlds?"

This time it was Destiny who answered.

"Unfortunately not. You see, Earth is like a tutorial. There, people have no way to gain so much personal power that they become untouchable. But that's not the case in the superior Worlds, and power corrupts the soul."

After thinking a moment, I nodded my head and said.

"Ok, so if I understand properly, you will let me skip the tutorial as compensation for your mistake. And since you told me all that, I assume I will be able to keep my memories."

Charon nodded with an impressed look on his face before saying

"Yes, that's correct. You are pretty smart. But that's not all. You will be given a blessing in the form of a system. I trust that you are aware of them from Earth literature."

I was thrilled to hear that. Novels and anime with systems were among my favorites.

"What kind of system? I asked with great enthusiasm.

"Well, it depends on you," answered Charon, laughing. "You are allowed to choose."

My mind went into a frenzy after hearing that.

'What do I choose? What about a monster-girl taming system? What about a Succubus one? Mmmh, I can't choose.'

In my mind, I was reviewing all my options, from the more serious ones, like wealth systems or check-in systems, to the more perverted ones. After a while, I calmed down after realizing that almost any system would make me happy.

"My only requirement for my system is that I don't want it to be the manipulative kind with a hidden agenda." I finally answered.

Destiny answered me with a smile.

"Don't worry, Alice. We didn't plan to fool you. The system you will get will be 100% beneficial. But I need you to make a wish, or else I can't give you my blessing."

"You blessing?"

"Yes, since your situation is due to my mistake, it's only natural that I am the one to give this gift."

I thought about it for a while and said something that would change the universe forever, even if I was unaware of it at that time.

"I only want to be able to fulfill all my dreams."

After hearing that, the two deities before me went silent. They both had their mouth open because of shock. I was pretty confused by their reaction and asked.

"Did I say something wrong?"

They both burst out laughing suddenly.

"HAHAHA Don't worry, child, there is nothing wrong. I was not wrong about you. You are indeed smart." said Charon.

I didn't understand what he was talking about, but my thoughts were interrupted when Destiny got up from her seat and walked around the table; Once she stood against me, she lowered her head and kissed me on the forehead. A blinding light engulfed the room as soon as her lips touched me.

"Receive my blessing, my child, and be reborn. You will live your first ten years as an ordinary girl. Once you turn 10, you will regain your memories, and the system will become available to you." Said Destiny.

Gradually her voice started to sound distant. After that, I heard Charon saying.

"We both hope you will have a happy life."

Suddenly the light disappeared, and only darkness remained as I lost consciousness.
