"It's time!" She screamed. Clutching at the railing to the staircase that she was standing on. She placed her hand on her overblown pregnant belly and whimpered. Hunching over with pain, she felt a splash! And she saw water all over the floor.
She had been in this miserable state for nine long months, and her time was here. She'd taken up the mantle as queen, ruling beside King Niall. They had averted the wars between peoples as they waited to welcome the baby that would unite the kingdoms.
The surrounding servants scattered, all screaming in different directions. She was sure some went to find the midwife, and others to find her husband. She trudged her way up the stairs slowly, making her way down the hall as she waddled. Finally, she felt a presence behind her scoop her up into his powerful arms.
"Lets go, my love." He said, running toward their bedroom. He placed her on their bed and screamed for the midwife and the palace healers, who poured into the room. Niall stood by Setia's side. She reached out and clasped his hand, crushing it in a death grip.
"Ahhhhh, easy." He winced but held strong. She growled at him for wincing and cried out as another wave of pain wracked her. The midwife checked between her legs.
"The baby is coming, its time to push!" she urged her, gripping her legs. Setia moaned in pain and nodded, and pushed in time with the midwifes calls.
After what felt like hours of screams, pain, and pushing. Desperate cries filled the room. Setia sighed in relief, tears leaking from her eyes.
(Ding! Love meter has reached 100%! May you live happily ever after. Mission meter has reached 100% congratulations on completing this world!)
"Congratulations, it's a beautiful boy!" the midwife called. They took the baby away to clean him. Setia felt weak. She fell back against the pillows, wheezing. Niall looked down at her. Smiling, he wiped the sweat-soaked hair from her face.
"He's beautiful." He whispered, and kissed her forehead. Then he looked down at her bedding, his brow furrowed in concern.
"Midwife, there is a lot of blood!" He said, voice full of concern. The midwife rushed over and her face blanched.
"Oh no, staunch the bleeding!" She placed gauze over the opening, but it wasn't working.
"Get the healers!" Niall cried. Setia moaned and felt the life slowly draining from her.
Ding! Eli came out of the bracelet and was hovering above her bed.
'We have completed the mission in this world. It is time for you to move on!' He said in her ear. Healers crowded around her, chanting and humming over her. But she could feel the life slowly ebbing from her.
"Let me see him…" she asked, holding out her arms. They placed the baby in her arms. She looked down at his beautiful little pale pink face. His eyes were still closed, but she somehow knew they would be golden cats' eyes. Tiny little fangs poked out from his bottom lip. Tears fell down Setia's face. Her child… she would never get to raise her baby.
She wept openly and held on to him tightly. Niall rubbed her back. They took the baby from her. She leaned back against the bed again. She heard the surrounding commotion, but it was all fuzzy, and she felt Niall squeeze her hand.
"I love you." He said. The world went black.
Suddenly, everything around her was white. She was standing up perfectly healthy in the middle of the white void. She felt down on her belly. It was flat, like normal. Then she felt her hair. It was black again! Her horn-rimmed glasses perched on her face. Oh, thank the lords she's herself again! She could have wept in relief.
Ding! A flash appeared in front of her and Eli was there, standing on a raised podium.
"You have completed world one! We have awarded you 500 Devil shards." Eli said, and a little counter appeared in the corner of her vision, adding a +500 to the bottom corner.
"What happened to Niall? To my baby?" Setia demanded of Eli. Eli sighed and a glowing orb appeared before them, like a giant holo screen.
"Are you sure you want to know? Remember, you shouldn't be getting so attached. These are all worlds you will be just passing through." He chided her. She frowned and bit her lower lip. It still felt real to her.
"I want to know." She said firmly. Eli sighed and snapped his little dragon claws. He appeared to be reading on the holo screen.
"It appears Niall reigned for one hundred and fifty years as a beloved ruler, before passing the throne down to your son, the only child he ever had, and deciding to retire to the heavens. He started many building projects, public programs, and raised morale in the kingdoms, uniting the two nations seamlessly. The elves intermarried, and mingle amongst themselves." Eli begins.
"The king never remarries, nor does he take any lovers in the long years of his life. He stayed eternally faithful to you, his queen. He had statues erected in your honor and he would pray to them." A tear came to Setia's eye.
"And what of my son?" She said.
"Your son was named Leon Ollander, and he led the kingdom's military as a battle hardened general for one hundred and fifty years, before taking the throne as king from your father. He was a hard ruler, but also loved by the people. Marrying a light elf girl named Nala, they had several children, who took over the throne after he ruled for two hundred years. He fought off wars from the orc kingdoms, and is renowned for his expansion of public buildings and programs." Eli finished reading the summary. Setia had tears running down her face openly. They both led good lives. That was good.
She sighed and wrapped her arms around herself. It felt strange, being in this familiar body, yet so different. She had gotten used to being the female elf warrior. Her fingers itched to hold a blade again.
"So what do these devil shards do?" She asked Eli. He perked up right away and jumped into an explanation.
"Devil shards are the currency of this system. You earn them doing your missions and completing worlds, also completing side missions (those will be unlocked in future worlds), and filling each meter as full as possible. So, for example, you would have gotten more devil shards had you maxed out your court approval meter." He chided her. She blushed, she did her best! It was at 80% anyway.
"You can use these shards to purchase in-world items from the Devil shop. Accessible through me! These items will differ in price depending on what they are. Spend wisely." He winked. Setia sighed. What could she find in the shop that would help her on her mission? This just seemed silly.
"So what do we do now?" Setia shrugged her shoulders, still reeling from her death and life in the last world. She stared around the white void. Eli snapped his claws again and the holo screen before them lit up.
On the screen appeared a small city, surrounded by a lush, forested. Trees were green and vibrant, and in abundance. Animals grazed on the outskirts. People could be seen wandering the streets. They looked ordinary enough. Some men were enormous, muscular, and built for battle. They wore odd uniforms. They wandered in and out of shops, and shopkeepers waved at them.
"This is Cantris, the world of the omega verse!" Eli said happily. "In case you're not familiar with omega verse in media, they segregate this society based on classifications of the Alphas - the strongest and the elite, the executives, military leaders, CEO's, tycoons. The Betas - Also strong, usually own small businesses, work in the military, and the Omegas - the weakest class, usually under protection of an Alpha or Beta, work lower end jobs and service positions." The screen kept flashing images. "Cantris is a central city, that run like an independent community. There are other cities throughout the wastelands and surrounding forests."
"Omegas are the weakest class, but are necessary for breeding and mating purposes, so they are closely guarded and protected. You will join this world as Omega Setia Evans, a omega daughter of an alpha Trevor Evans." Eli conducted his long spiel. Setia's ears burned. She was going in as an omega? A breeder? She sighed. This looked like it was going to differ from the last world where she was a princess.
"Your goal in this world is to romance the Alpha, in access to the weapons research he's developing, and return this information to the rebel forces." Eli highlighted the mission. "Your conditions in this world are as usual: No one can find out you are not real and not from this world, and your community approval meter must not reach 0."
He snapped his fingers, and the orb of light disappeared.
"Ready to jump?"
"No?"
"Too bad, you'll figure it out." Eli said and pushed her. They felt like they were falling, and once again, the world went black.
This is the last chapter of world one! Hope you all enjoyed the start to my story, there is plenty more to come! Strap in for World 2!
