Mason was on his way to the duelling grounds when it was already getting late, most kids would be eating dinner by now but the white-haired teen couldn't wait to test out what his new skill did.
When he arrived he was pleasantly surprised as there were still a bunch of people fighting each other and training.
He didn't know it himself but someone like him winning the dungeon competition had lit up a fire in the youths of Lionheart Academy.
They were all thinking the same thing.
'Over my dead body I'm letting someone like him win again!'
The unsuspecting Mason just walked up to an open duelling ground as he waited for an opponent.
This didn't take very long as basically the entire school would volunteer to beat his ass even slightly. For them it didn't even matter if they won, if they could scratch his face that would be a win in their eyes.
A young man with average looks got up on the duelling ground as Mason asked his System to identify him.
[Cole Botacles]
[Level 30]
Mason was surprised, level 30 wasn't something your average student could get while at school.
'Looking at his last name, he's probably some noble that got fed with Beast meat since he was two years old.' Mason deduced.
Just as he was in thought about Cole's origins. The brown-haired boy spoke up to him.
"You still dare to come to the duelling grounds knowing basically this entire school dislikes you? How arrogant." He said.
Mason was chuckling when he heard this.
"You call it arrogance, I call it confidence."
"But lets see who's right and who's wrong by fighting with our swords and not our mouths." Mason responded.
Cole ignored him as he took his stance.
Mason had said they would fight with their swords since he saw that Cole had a sword around his waist.
But Cole was actually a Mage through and through, he didn't really have skills with the sword and it was just there in case of emergencies.
From his birth, Cole's father had drilled into him that if a Mage and a Swordsman of the same level would clash, the Mage would be victorious 9/10 times.
Cole believed his father unconditionally.
His father's name was Benedict Botacles, and he had been a powerhouse of the kingdom for a long time.
Starting as a no-name commoner and graduating from this very academy, Benedict had continuously proved himself and was awarded the noble title of 'Baron'.
Baron Benedict Botacles didn't stay true to his origins however, as he let his power and status get to his head.
He felt that he was special and unlike any other commoner, making him believe that commoners weren't worth his time.
This was also the reason he spoiled his children with the best of the best nourishment, they could absolutely not fall behind the commoners.
Back to the present as the referee signalled the start of the duel.
Cole started provoking Mason instantly as the latter didn't go on the offense immediately, and so completely misunderstanding his intentions.
Cole thought Mason would go for a defensive fight and try to exhaust him so he could win somehow, when in reality he was looking at him with a bored look on his face.
'Can this guy start attacking already, I've already seen two openings in the first 10 seconds of the match, but I have to actually learn something from the fight and not instantly win it.' Mason thought
Cole finally took the initiative as he started casting a spell.
"Fireball"
Mason dodged it easily as he understood Cole was just testing the waters.
He now knew that Cole was had Fire Affinity, which was usually used by fighters who would rather be on the offensive than the defensive.
Mason smirked as he now understood how he could bully Cole to the furthest extent while also learning as much as he could from the fight.
'Let's make him use his strongest spell as fast as possible.'
And thus started the provoking.
"Hey background character, is that all you have?"
"Your spells are almost as disappointing as your looks, come on."
Cole's veins could be seen as he started getting angry the more he got insulted, he had never been insulted like this in his entire noble life.
"Shut up! You said we shouldn't fight with our mouths so what are you doing!"
Mason didn't care about what he said as he kept insulting him.
"I fought a little kid at the corner of my street when I was five, but he could probably beat you if this is your best. Your spells are weak and so is your mentality."
Cole couldn't take it anymore as he started casting a spell that scared the referee a bit.
'Is he really going to burn that kid alive?' The referee thought.
It started getting hotter and hotter around Mason as Cole started finishing his spell.
Mason could've stopped him from casting as the spell took way too long to actually be used in a fight but Cole didn't care.
"Inferno"
Mason saw a raging current of fire approaching him at a fast speed, but he was prepared for a long time as he took his stance.
"Die, you bastard!" Cole laughed as he panted heavily.
Mason smirked.
The white-haired devil slashed up vertically, and the spell disappeared.
"..."
"..."
The referee, who was about to stop the spell from reaching Mason had stopped when he saw the confident look.
Cole, who was laughing like a maniac after he saw that Mason didn't even try to counter it with his own spells was dumbfounded to see his spell disappear like that without warning.
"W-What happened?" Cole asked.
"What did you do!?"
Mason didn't listen to him however as he walked up to the exhausted Cole without a care in the world as he put his sword on the noble's neck.
The referee ended the match.
"Victory, Mason White."
After that, Mason started walking back towards his dorm, trying to look as cool as possible.
What he forgot however, is that all the people who watched the match didn't give half a f*ck who won the match, they were just there to chase him once again after he got out of the duelling grounds.
Mason started running as fast as possible when he noticed around 30 people chasing him.
"Why always meeee?" He yelled as he sped of into the distance.
