Chapter 3: sacrifices and a new beginning

Chloe stared into Josh's eyes and thought, 'I think it's time I told him about my true identity. If he doesn't want to become a vampire that's fine. As painful as even the thought of it is if he doesn't accept me for who I am then I guess this wasn't meant to be.' Chloe felt her heartache at the thought of Josh leaving her.

"I have something to tell you." Chloe said.

"And what would that be?" Josh asked, surprised by her sudden serious tone.

Chloe sat in a lotus position on the bed and beckoned on Josh to join her which he did. He took his hands and intertwined his fingers with hers, looking deep into his dark brown eyes she said, "promise me you'll never leave me."

"You're scaring me right now." Josh voiced his concern.

"Promise." Chloe insisted.

Josh stared deep into her eyes and said, "I wouldn't fight you for the world because you're worth it."

Chloe on hearing his answer closed her eyes. Opening them she said, "I am a vampire."

Josh chuckled and said, "joking isn't quite your forte."

Chloe shook her head and said, "I'm being serious."

"For real?" Josh opened his eyes wide open.

'That explains her eyes turning red yesterday. I knew I wasn't hallucinating.' Josh thought in realisation.

'Should I reveal my status to him? What if he starts to see me as a ladder to greater status?' Chloe contemplated.

'Screw that. Of what value is our love if there is no trust?' Chloe made her decision.

"I am Chloe Alexandra Fireheart, the crown princess of the vampire race." Chloe revealed her identity.

Josh stared at Chloe gobsmacked.

"Prove it." Josh said, still not believing.

Chloe sighed and conjured a pencil made of blood in mid-air.

'Blood magic. The signature trait of the vampire race.' Josh thought, now believing her completely.

'So you're telling me, I just had sex and am about to officially start a relationship with a princess, not just any princess, the princess of the vampire race.' Josh saw her in a new light.

'And to think she is willing to enter a relationship with a weak, talentless human like me. If only I was blessed by the heavens with talents, I would not be feeling inferior.' Josh thought, saddened by the fact that he was born without magic talents, and could not even become the swordsman he dreamed to become when he was a kid, not for lack of trying, but because he just could not muster enough mana.

"I don't deserve you." Josh said, bringing his head down.

Chloe pulled him into a hug and said, "Don't say that."

'He doesn't seem to bother about the fact that I'm a vampire. That's a plus.' Chloe thought.

Releasing him from her hug, she looked into his eyes and said, "you're smart, funny, and handsome. Do you think I'll let someone undeserving have his way with me?"

"I appreciate the pep talk but that doesn't change the fact that I possess no talents." Josh said in a depressing tone. He had always hated the fact that he was born without any talents. Having a virtually photographic memory did not count for him.

Chloe sighed and said, "Look. If it means that much to you,  I can turn you into a vampire. Although you're still not going to be able to use magic, you could become a warrior. Of course, you can choose not to it's your decision to make."

Josh contemplated within himself, weighing the pros and cons and finally made his decision, "To grow in life sacrifices have to be made. Even if it means sacrificing your humanity."

He turned to Chloe and said, "I'm ready to make this sacrifice."

Chloe nodded, feeling as if a burden had been lifted from her shoulders, and said, "this is going to hurt just a little."

"Why do I have a feeling you're lying to me?" Josh chuckled.

"Just trust me." Chloe said, with an unreadable expression on her face.

She leaned to Josh, who on realising what she was about to do relaxed his mind. She bore her fangs into Josh's neck, savouring the sweet and aphrodisiac flavour of his blood. Not remembering that she was only supposed to bite him until his body began to jerk.

She got out of bed and watched him, worried.

Josh felt hell, he felt as though all the cells in the body were destroying and then rebuilding in an infinite loop. Trying hard not to howl in pain.

Tears fell from Chloe's eyes as she watched the one she loves endure unimaginable pain.

A few minutes later, Josh's body finally lay still and he opened his eyes.

Chloe watched in awe as Josh's pupils gradually returned to their original colour. Admiring the small, but still noticeable changes on his face. If his handsomeness or in this case beauty was once comparable to that of the late vampire king, all comparison had been vanquished.

Josh, on the other hand, watched in awe at something different, that could in fact be considered "Legendary".

"Wow." Josh blurted out.

"What's that?" Chloe asked, getting on the bed.

'She trusted me with her identity, I would be betraying her trust by withholding this from her.' Josh destroyed every lie forming in his head. Of what use is a relationship if there is no trust between both parties?

"You read light novels right?" Josh asked.

"Of course I do." Chloe nodded, and continued, "But how does this have to do with anything?"

"You see. When I woke up a virtual screen appeared in front of me in..."

"Virtual- wait a minute, don't tell me it's what I'm thinking." Chloe said, not believing her thoughts herself.

"What are you thinking?" Josh asked, grinning.

"That you just got a system!" Chloe exclaimed, the pace of her heartbeat increasing.

"Your thoughts are correct my dear Chloe, this sir is currently the mc of this world." Josh said grinning.

Chloe pounced on him, hugging him tightly.

She released him from her tight embrace and said, "You got a system!"

"Shush. The walls have ears you know?" Josh scolded with a smile.

"You didn't think of that when we were having sex." Chloe rolled her eyes.

"Getting a little cocky eh? This sir will put  you in your place." Josh threatened.

Ignoring his threat, Chloe said, "So, what's your race on the system? Tell me all about it."

"You don't think I'm lying?" Josh asked, endeared by her confidence in him.

"I will never doubt you." Chloe replied.

"Well, for starters it turns out that I'm half-incubus and half-vampire." Josh said, surprised by the words he just spoke himself.

"Really? That's strange. Both your parents are human right?" Chloe asked, confused.

"That's a question for my dear mother to answer." Josh replied, with a frown on his face.

"Turns out I have a lot of mana, I've two hundred and eighty-five mana points." Josh said.

"That's pretty good. Considering you've never used magic all your life." Chloe said.

"Yeah. How many magic affinities do you have?" Josh asked.

"Just fire and blood." Chloe replied, and continued, "Why asking?"

"Turns out, due to the effect of one of my main classes, I can gain the magic affinities of any woman I penetrate." Josh explained.

"That's broken!" Chloe exclaimed, gaining magic affinities just by having sex was just ridiculous to imagine.

Chloe narrowed her eyes, and said, "Don't tell me you're seriously thinking of building a-"

"What if I am thinking of it?" Josh asked, grinning.

"Not on my watch." Chloe said, with a resolute expression on her face.

"You do realise that would be stunting my growth right?" Josh reminded.

"When we get to that bridge, we'll cross it." Chloe replied, not pleased by the fact that in the future there is a chance that she would be sharing Josh with other women, and continued, "Besides you should have two affinities already. Learning skills of both would be a hell of work."

"Four not two." Josh corrected.

"What do you mean four? You clearly stated that you only get magic affinities of women you have sex with, and I've got a dual affinity." Chloe said, confused.

"Even I am confused myself, it says here that I have; blood, fire, air and earth." Josh replied.

"So apparently you just have them?" Chloe asked.

"Maybe." Josh shrugged.

'I really do need to talk with mum.' Josh thought.

"So, what are the ranks of the magic affinities?" Chloe asked, curious.

Josh inhaled some oxygen, exhaled and said, "they're all colourless."

Chloe looked at him, as though she was staring at a monster.
