Chapter Five

Olivia dialed Jake's number at once, she could not wait to relate to someone about all that had happened to her.

"Something strange happened to me," she voiced out the moment he picked the call.

Jake let out a breath before he spoke up. "Go on."

She immediately explained her experience with Edward to him. She told him everything that transpired between herself and the werewolf, except for the kiss.

After detailing the event to him, all Jake could do was laugh.

"What's funny?" She asked in an annoyed tone.

"Your story of course. Werewolves only exists in movies, you are just overthinking things."

"You can choose to doubt me all you want but I think there's more to this than just some crazy guy claiming to be a werewolf."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Olivia took a deep breath. "I think this has something to do with my parents' murder," she said. "I did some research and all the clues are leading me to some big werewolf house."

Jake shook his head. "Olivia, you need to let this go," he said. "It's too dangerous."

Olivia crossed her arms, her eyes flashing with determination. "I can't let it go," she said. "I need to find out what happened to my parents and I need your help with that."

Jake sighed, knowing he wouldn't be able to talk her out of it. "Okay," he said. "Suit yourself but you need to be careful. The werewolves are dangerous, and they won't hesitate to kill you if they find out what you are up to."

Olivia nodded, knowing the risks. "I understand," she said. "But I have to do this for my parents."

Jake nodded from behind, his expression serious. "Okay," he said. "Let's do this, I will only support you by providing necessary information but I can't guarantee going to any werewolf house with you."

"Thanks," she said and hung up at once.

Olivia couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to Edward than met the eye. She had always been a skeptic when it came to supernatural beings, but the events of the past few days had made her question everything she thought she knew.

She decided to do some research on werewolves and their behavior. She spent hours reading articles and watching videos on the internet, trying to understand the bond that Edward had mentioned.

As she delved deeper into the subject, she found that werewolves were fiercely loyal to their mates and would do anything to protect them. The bond between them was unbreakable, and they could sense each other's emotions and thoughts.

Olivia couldn't believe that she was even considering the possibility that Edward was telling the truth. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense. The way he had kissed her, the way she had felt a connection with him, it all pointed to the fact that they were meant to be together.

Even after all this info, she wasn't ready to accept that yet. She needed more proof, more evidence that he was who he claimed to be. She decided to reach out to another friend of hers who was a private investigator and ask for his help.

The next day, Olivia met with her friend, Dennis, at a coffee shop. She explained everything that had happened with Edward and asked him to look into his background.

Dennis was skeptical at first, but he agreed to take the case. He promised to do his best to find out everything he could about Edward and report back to her as soon as possible.

Days turned into weeks, yet Olivia heard nothing from Dennis. She began to worry that he had given up on the case or worse, that something had happened to him.

Just when she was about to give up hope, she received a call from Dennis. He sounded excited and out of breath, as if he had just made a breakthrough.

"Olivia, you're not going to believe this," he said. "I found him. I found Edward."

Olivia's heart skipped a beat. "What did you find out?"

"He's not who he says he is," Dennis said. "His real name is Alexander Blackwood, and he's a member of a powerful werewolf clan that has been operating in the city for centuries. They're known for their ruthless tactics and their ability to keep their existence a secret from the rest of the world."

Olivia was stunned. "So, he was telling the truth about being a werewolf?"

"Yes, but that's not the only thing I found out," Dennis said. "He's also the prime suspect in your parents' murder case."

Olivia felt a chill run down her spine. "What? How is that possible?"

"I don't know all the details yet, but it seems that your parents were investigating the werewolf clan and had uncovered some damning evidence against them. Alexander must have found out and decided to silence them."

Olivia couldn't believe what she was hearing. She was not wrong to have suspected him as her parent's murderer after all.

"What do I do now?" she asked herself, not intending to let him hear.

"I think you should go to the police," Dennis said. "Tell them everything you know and let them handle it from there."

Olivia nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew what she had to do. She had to bring her parents' killer to justice, no matter the cost.

As she left the coffee shop, she couldn't help but think about Edward, or Alexander, and the bond that they shared. She thought of how he had nearly deceived her and how he would have been able to convince her to forget about this case, if she had believed him.

She decided to give the police one last chance to prove that they would be able to handle this case.

She was ushered into a small room where a detective was waiting for her. He introduced himself as Detective Johnson and asked her to tell him everything she knew.

Olivia took a deep breath and began to recount the events of the past few weeks. She told him about meeting Edward, their connection, and the strange things that had been happening around her.

As she spoke, she could see the detective's expression change from one of skepticism to one of interest. He asked her questions, trying to get as much information as possible.

When she finished, he thanked her for coming forward and promised to do everything in his power to bring Alexander Blackwood to justice.

Days passed by and Olivia found herself consumed by the case. She spent hours pouring over police reports and witness statements, trying to piece together what had happened to her parents.

At night, while she was going through her father's old files, she found something that would change everything.

It was a file on the werewolf clan that her parents had been investigating. Inside were notes, photographs, and even a map of their hideout, the same werewolf house she had seen during her research.

Olivia knew that she had to act fast. She called Detective Johnson and told him what she had found. He was skeptical at first, but when she showed him the evidence, he knew that they had to move quickly.

The next day, they raided the werewolf clan's hideout but found nothing.

Olivia was devastated. She had been so sure that they would find something, but it seemed like the clan had covered their tracks well.

As she was leaving the scene, she saw a figure lurking in the shadows. It was clearly that of Edward or rather Alexander Blackwood.

He looked at her with a mix of anger and sadness. She had no idea how it happened but she was suddenly standing close to him. "You shouldn't have done that, Olivia," he said. "You've put yourself in danger."

Olivia was taken aback. "What are you talking about?"

"The clan is going to come after you now," he said. "They won't stop until they've silenced you, just like they did with your parents."

Olivia felt a chill run down her spine. She knew that Alexander was right. She had put herself in danger by getting involved in the case.

"Enough of your lies. What clan is going to come after me? You are the villain here, Alexander," she outed in anger.

"Do stay away from me, I advise you to run while you still can because once I have gotten enough proof, I'm sure going to make you pay for all you did to my parents."

"Come with me," he said. "I can protect you."

Olivia hesitated. Could she trust him? After everything that had happened, could she trust the man who had killed her parents.

Just as she was about to leave, an idea popped into her head. She was going to remain with him and use it as an opportunity to get some information from him.

She nodded and followed him. As they walked, he told her about the clan and their history. He told her about his own struggles with his identity as a werewolf.

Olivia listened, trying to set aside the strange feeling of a sense of connection to him.

As they reached a small cabin in the woods, Edward turned to her. "We'll be safe here," he said. "I'll protect you."

Olivia nodded, trying her very best to put up an act that she was okay being around him. She knew that she was taking a risk by staying with him, but she also knew that she had no other choice, this was the only way she could use to avenge the death of her parents.

She pretended as though she cared for him by asking him deep questions about the pack.

"Where do all werewolves stay?"

"Are you immortal?"

Edward was somewhat surprised by Olivia's sudden interest in his world but he failed to notice the motive behind her sudden curiosity.

He explained to her that werewolves lived in packs, usually in remote areas where they wouldn't be discovered by humans. They were not immortal, but they did have a longer lifespan than humans.

Olivia listened intently, fascinated by everything he had to say. She couldn't believe that she was sitting here, talking to a werewolf, and actually enjoying it.

As the night wore on, they talked about everything under the moon. They talked about their pasts, their hopes, and their fears. Olivia found herself opening up to him in a way that she had never done before, despite not wanting to.

She told him about her parents, about how much she missed them, and how she was determined to find their killer. Alexander listened, his expression softening as he heard her story.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I'm sorry for everything that's happened to you. I wish I could go back and change things."

Olivia looked at him. The only thought in her head was how good he was at this pretense of a thing. "What do you mean?"

"I mean that I wish I could undo all the terrible things that I've done," he said. "I wish I could make things right."

Olivia was taken aback. She had never heard him talk like this before. It was like he was a different person. She was just so glad that she already had an idea on the type of person he was. Indeed he was good with words.

As the night wore on, they talked until the sun began to rise. Olivia knew that she had to leave, that she should go back to the police and tell them everything she had learned.

A part of her didn't want to leave. A part of her wanted to stay with Edward, to see where this strange connection between them would lead but she fought against such urge.

As she got up to leave, Edward grabbed her hand, causing her to stuttle a bit. "Stay with me," he said. "Just for a little while longer."

Would she agree to his request?

If yes, it only meant that she was slowly beginning to have a soft spot for him.
