The man she's supposed to marry can't stand her and looks for ways to end their engagement, all to no avail. But on the day she's to get married, she finds out she's pregnant. Her fiancé finally uses the opportunity to break off his engagement to her and her father sends her packing to her aunt in another city never to return after she refuses to remove the baby like he asked her to. Seven years later, she returns to the city to claim her position as the heiress of her mother's fortune, which her father and his wife and daughter has been living off of all these years. But not as the overweight duckling everyone expected, but as a stunning, glamorous woman. Behind her are three children: a daughter who looks exactly like her, a handsome son, and another handsome son who looks too much like the most powerful man in the city. Unexpectedly, the dimwit, her fiancé who broke off their engagement comes begging for them to get married like they were supposed to. "So what if you're stunning now and lost all that weight? Everyone knows you used to be an ugly duckling. Who knows the underhanded ways you resorted to to lose weight. Forget our past and marry me again." The woman looked at him and snickered. "Aren't you the heir of the Baker family? Why would you marry a fatso like me?" The man huffed and said arrogantly. "Hmph! Do whatever you want. But I assure you that no one in Silicon Valley will want to marry a woman saddled with bastard children!" The triplets came up on his face and snorted in disdain. "Who's this? Where is daddy when a man like this harasses mommy?” “I told you he wasn’t worth her. Hurry up and call him quickly.” The man who was in the middle of a conference call ended it as soon as he heard the news and went straight to where she was. “Are you hitting on my wife? Bastards? Are you calling the beloved children of Jett Adler bastards?” “Eh-what? Jett Adler? The most powerful man in the city? How is that even possible!”

Chapter 3 Father Of The Child?

"What do you mean by that?" Jerry Sutton was the first to find his tongue.

The doctor didn't notice the abnormality on their faces and went ahead to respond, "Your daughter is pregnant."

"I'm not sure how many months, but it's more than two months. I assume the wedding will come faster than expected, Mr. Sutton."

The news was entirely unexpected and out of the blue, but it was a tangible reason for Bryan to break off this nightmare of an engagement.

He suppressed the joy he was feeling and didn't beat around the bush as he immediately began hurling hurtful words at Kelsie.

"What is this? You're pregnant? I can't even bare to look at this pig for more than a second, why would I get in bed with her, talk more of getting her pregnant. I'd rather get a horse pregnant!"

"Hmph! Mr. Sutton, since it has come to this, the wedding will no longer happen. Your daughter is pregnant and I'm positive I'm not the father."

"I refuse to marry a fatso who sleeps around. I'm sure my grandfather will find my reason for breaking off our engagement tangible."

After dropping those words, he turned and quickly left the party.

Upon his leaving, the guests turned and began whispering with each other.

"She's pregnant and Mr. Baker is not the father? Not only is she a fatso, but she also dares to sleep around? Mr. Baker must be going through a lot."

"I can't believe a fellow man actually laid with her. Now I don't know what she offered him to make him accept, but I'd never touch her even if I were offered heaven and earth."

"He must have a strong heart. How did he manage to—forget it. It's disgusting to even think about."

"You do know Jerry Sutton and his family can hear you all just fine?"

"Huh? If the Bakers breaks off their engagement with the Suttons, the Sutton family will be nothing. Why should I be careful of what I say?"

"Right. My family is way above the Suttons. I only agreed to come because of the Baker family. Besides, it's not like I'm making anything up. Everything I've said is nothing, but the truth!"

As those with higher status than Jerry left the house, families who were the same rank as the Sutton family and those beneath them, weren't so brazen to do the same.

So they all came up with creative ways to leave without directly offending Jerry.

"I got a call from my company just now, I have an important investment for me to sign off on in my office. I'll leave now too."

"Yes, my mother called and said she's about to have surgery. I better go to be by her side now. I ask that you don't mind me leaving."

One by one, every guest came up with one excuse or the other to leave and before Jerry knew it, the doctor was the only guest left behind.

"I have to leave now too. I have some patients waiting for me at the hospital. For clarity sake, you should have a formal test run on her. I might've made a mistake just now." He also said, feeling the gravity of what he had said and hurriedly excused himself.

Jerry glared at Kelsie who didn't seem the least affected by what was happening before he turned and whipped out his phone.

He called the family's doctor and waited for him to come.

Half an hour later, the doctor came and examined Kelsie.

"Mr. Sutton, your 18-year-old daughter is indeed pregnant. She's already two months gone." The doctor said, handling over the test result to Jerry.

Jerry crumbled the paper into a ball and angrily tossed it aside before he turned to lash out at Kelsie.

"How dare you embarrass me this way, you unfilial daughter! I did everything for you, even though you didn't deserve it."

"I even got you engaged to Bryan Baker, one of the highly sought after bachelors in Silicon Valley and this is how you repay me?"

"Both the Baker family and our family have been preparing for your marriage for more than a year, but your reckless act have put everything in jeopardy! Tell me, who is the person? Who is the bastard who got you pregnant?"

However, Kelsie said nothing. She was sitting with her eyes lowered to the ground, making it difficult for him to tell if she was ignoring him as usual or if she had fallen asleep.

"Hey, Kelsie Sutton, father is talking to you!" Laura sneered from the sofa she was perched on.

Kelsie still didn't move a muscle, but when she did, it was to stare at Laura coldly.

Laura didn't know when she shuddered and shrank her neck in fright, but when she realized what she did, she hurriedly sat up and gritted her teeth in anger.

Seeing this, Jerry erupted in rage and pointed a shaky finger at Laura.

"You're insolent and a rude brat, you are not fit to be a mother! Right here and now, you will get rid of the baby and you will apologize to Bryan Baker and his family!"

"You saw how the other families treated us as soon as he was gone, didn't you? If you don't wish to end the Sutton family, then hurry up and do as I say!"

Kelsie's paid a deaf ear to him, her left hand subconsciously circled her belly as the event from three months ago came flooding back into her mind.

She had just wandered out that night and came across a tavern. It was her first time tasting alcohol and even though it burned the back of her throat when she swallowed, she could feel the creamy aftertaste of vanilla each time she drowned a glass.

So she just kept drowning more glasses until she lost track. When she opened her eyes the next mornin, she found herself entangled in bed with a stranger.

Her memory of that night was still so vague despite of it being two months already.

Since she knew no man in his right senses would want anything to do with her, she naturally concluded he was a gigolo.

So she dropped three hundred dollar bills on the table before leaving and never thought of the incident again.

Because it was her first time, she didn't know people took something to prevent getting pregnant.

Who knew that she'd have another being in her as a result of that night. And to think it had been two months already without her noticing.

Her eyes suddenly fell and she withdrew her hand from her belly.

Jerry was right about her not being fit to be a mother just yet, but she already felt so attached to the creature inside her, so how could she possibly do what he was asking?

While she was deep in thought, Jerry attributed her silence for agreement and tried to drag her up.

"Get up, it'll only take a few minutes and you'd be back to normal. You won't even notice you did anything. Come on."

Her eyelids moved slightly as she avoided his hand and calmly looked up at him, her throat producing a hoarse, but audible, "No."

Jerry was slightly taken aback by this refusal.

Even though she ignored him and everyone else all the time, she was still so obedient and never refused to do anything.

But even if she did, she'd be left with no choice than to agree with him as long as he shouted at her for a few minutes.

It had been that way for 18 years and hearing her refuse him after everything he said was upsetting.

"No? Are you out of your mind?"

Kelsie sat up properly, looked him dead in the eyes and repeated blandly, "No, I won't remove the pregnancy neither will I apologize to Bryan Baker."

Laura Sutton, who had been waiting for the best time to chip in something, saw her chance.

"What is that? You've always liked Bryan. Isn't that the reason you bear how he treats you? You're submissive to him because you hope that one day he'll come around to accept you for who you are."

"Do you think being defiant and getting him angry will make him come to you? Don't be stupid, that'll only make him despise you even more!"

As soon as her words fell, Deborah Thompson huffed irritably, "Kelsie Sutton, what is this sudden stubbornness?"

"We're your family, we'd never tell you to do something that won't benefit you in anyway! So unless you wish to ruin your bright future, go ahead and keep the baby!"

Kelsie was silent again.

Thinking she had finally given in, Jerry straightened up and said with a note of finality, "The doctor hasn't left yet, I'll get him to make the necessary preparations for its removal!"

But to everyone's surprising, Kelsie shook her head in refusal, "I'm not removing my baby."

Jerry almost vomited blood in anger.

"Kelsie Sutton, are you out to anger me to death today?!"

But the next second, he suddenly calmed down and huffed in disdain.

"Fine! If you don't do as I say and insist on keeping that thing, then get ready to live with your maternal aunt abroad until I deem it fit for you to return!"

"Do you think you're irreplaceable? Your sister here is more than willing to marry into the Baker family."

"With you gone, she'll naturally fulfil the duty you've failed to. Now get out of my sight. You leave in an hour!"

Kelsie remained seated for a few more seconds before she gently got up, lazily dragging her feet against the floor as she climbed up the stairs to her room.

In an hour, the Sutton family's Volkswagon drove her out of the house.

On the road, it suddenly began raining heavily and she parted the curtains a little to peek outside.

The car had stopped at an intersection because as the traffic light turned red.

As she glanced around for a few more minutes, the tinted window of the midnight black BMW slowly rolled down a little to reveal a pair of icy blue eyes gazing out of it.

Their eyes met and she frowned slightly, finding them a little familiar.

But before she could take a closer look at his face, the traffic light turned green and their cars went in different direction.

As she closed the curtain and rested her back on the car seat, she tried to shake off the eyes she had just seen.

She had a photographic memory which made it possible for her to remember a lot of things.

For someone who had such retentive memory and didn't meet a lot of people, it was odd she didn't remember him.

At the end of the day, she concluded he must've been a passing person she had encountered on the street in the past.

Meanwhile, inside the BMW, the man's brows slowly furrowed into a frown. He rolled up the window and lowered his eyes again to the neat three hundred dollar bills in his hand.

"You still haven't found her?"

Eric Lance stared at him through the rear view mirror and slowly shook his head, "The CCTV footage from the street across was corrupted, so I couldn't find anything."

Raising his eyes to meet Eric's eyes, the corners of his lips twitched slightly, "Could she have left the city? Silicone Valley is too small not to find a mere woman. Expand your search to the whole country."

Eric Lance nodded, "I will do just that, sir!"
