One Step at a Time.

A death, a wish, two perks, no system, and a really weird mission. Off you go. This is the story of Azuma Fūrinji, a boy that wasn`t supposed to exist. Life is a series of steps, let`s see where Azuma´s story will take us. ~~~~~~~ As you see in the tags this will be a harem and multiverse story. Some of the worlds I know, others I have a couple of ideas. The first world is quite obvious if you know the MC’s last name. Let me warn you, this will be slow, no jumping worlds five chapters into the story, or popping in get the girl and out. If this is not for you, I’m sorry, and hope you find something for your taste, I know the pain, that’s why I’m writing. Thanks for checking my story

______________________

Three fucking months it took me to find one stupid dojo, three months, the amount of time it took me was unnatural. Not taking into account that I didn't even know about the exact date of the event, long story short I finally found the Tenchi Mushin school.

Originally I even didn't care about this, but after getting together with Shigure, I realized I would probably also go ballistic if someone killed her, so I and my big heart found ourselves here, trying to prevent the death of Mayu Tanaka.

The real issue came when Ogata's attack would begin, I spent three! more months spying on the damn place, it was clear Ogata had already conducted his experiment on Kai Midō, his visibly declining health made it obvious enough.

Maybe this was the reason Ogata became a grandmaster so quickly, after the experiment he got the idea on how to reach grandmaster class, and then came back to test himself against Midō.

Today was finally the day, Ogata had come to challenge Midō, and although I could save the man, he was extremely sick and he knew it, maybe he wanted to die as a martial artist, or prove himself to the man that caused his declining health, or neither. What I knew was that he didn't need to accept the duel, as much of a psychopathic bastard Ogata is, he does not go out there killing for the sake of killing.

Meaning he knew he would die once he accepted, what he didn't knew was that his stupid daughter would be there to see his end.

The fight was…. anticlimactic, Midō stood no chance, but he did try the best he could, their fight was intense, a testament to how strong Midō really was. At one moment one of the decorative candles in the dojo broke, starting a fire.

I waited, praying for the now dead man to find peace, noticing Mayu Tanaka, crying, shouting at Ogata, something like 'For my father!' so cliché, the girl definitely not the smartest fish in the pond.

As I said, Ogata did not kill for killing sake, even telling the girl to stop, or he would take the fight as a serious duel and behave accordingly.

But of course, the girl did not listen, I had to intervene now.

As Ogata was still trying to reason with the lady, finally starting to get angry as she kept attacking, before he was ready to retaliate, an unknown person appeared in front of the girl, knocking her out, and quickly leaving the building on fire.

Considering Ogata did not realize the man was here before his appearance, the ease in which he handled the girl or the speed in which he appeared and disappeared, he was definitely strong, and Ogata was exited.

Following the man outside Ogata found him putting the unconscious girl in the ground, standing up, and looking at him, the man said, "As impatient and battle-hungry as always I see."

"Who are you? I don't believe I've had the chance to meet you?" Ogata did not know who this man was, tall, 190 cm, blond hair tied into a ponytail and sharp features, quickly trying to recall ever meeting a man fitting this description, Ogata realized he definitely didn't know the man, but the man appeared to know him. And he couldn't accept that, could he?

"You can call me Azuma," he said.

Finally getting the man's name Ogata questioned, "And why would you intervene in my fight against the girl?" He wasn't as angry as he appeared, that wasn't an official duel, had it been, Ogata would've been extremely angrier.

Azuma, in his usual sarcastic mood when meeting 'new' people answered, "Now that's the question of the hour ain't it, you see, I really wouldn't care about your little bout, but as I said before, your stupid impatience almost made you attack a pregnant lady.... The famous Isshinsai Ogata almost killed an unborn baby…. his--fucking--fame really precedes him, wouldn't you agree." Pushing his ki out by the last part of his speech, Azuma had become angry.

Ogata flinched at the last part, not really angry at Azuma's comment once he noticed the small bulge on Mayu's stomach. As Azuma had said before, even considering how psychopathic Ogata behaved at times, the only real regret he ever showed was when talking about the unfortunate killing of Mayu and the baby.

Tying to control the anger he felt, not at Azuma, but at himself, he asked, "I see, then allow me to thank you for preventing such a tragedy from happening." His voice trying to pass as nonchalant, hiding the regret on it.

Azuma having calmed down only answered, "Don't apologize, do something, or as I said, your stupidity will one day make you do something you'll deeply regret."

Anger started to rise from Ogata, the first time he let it pass, as it was indeed his fault, but being repeatedly called stupid was getting on his nerves, through gritted teeth he asked Azuma, "And why were you here? Such a coincidence, right, appearing right before I could kill the woman."

Azuma only smiled at the question, telling him half-truths, "I came to challenge Kai Midō, rumors say the Invincible Superman taught him one of the legendary 108 techniques, regretfully when I arrived he was already on his match with you, I stayed to watch the show, quickly after you killed him, I noticed the girl's appearance, and the rest you already know."

A smile started to appear when Azuma told him he came to challenge Midō, the anger had evaporated, all that was left was excitement for a match, "Perfect isn't it, I also happen to know that same technique, you can fight me then."

Azuma smiled knowingly, having expected the result once he told Ogata the 'reason' for his visit, "I can make time, at least until the little lady wakes up."

Although unsatisfied by the answer, Ogata nodded, both fighters approaching the burning building, not entering it, but leaving enough space for their fight to not affect Mayu.

Azuma started this fight, as he was no longer disguised, he also used Renewal, not at all scared Ogata would recognize it, since when he used the style against Kensei, Ogata was unconscious.

This time Azuma rushed at Ogata, starting with multiple kicks, alternating between high-kicks and mid-kicks. Ogata dodges the ones he could, and tried to block the others, quickly being launched by the impact even after blocking, Ogata praised their strength, "Ahhh such amazing display of taekwondo."

If anything, Ogata loved martial arts with all his heart, his love so pure, it might actually be the only pureness in him, which testifies to his instant realization on the core of Renewal.

Azuma replied, "Thank you" and quickly re-entered his stance.

Ogata was rushing at him. Both fighters stormed forward, meeting on hand-to-hand combat, Ogata with a mix of fists, sword-fingers, or hand-lances, allowing him to rapidly change the type of wounds he wanted to apply against Azuma. On the other hand, Azuma also attacked with a mix of sword-fingers and punches, focusing on finding opportunities to kick his opponent.

As the fight continued one of Ogata's sword-fingers slashed Azuma on the chest, creating a wound, Azuma retaliated by quickly kicking Ogata's knee, hearing a loud snapping sound as it broke.

The wound on Azuma's chest was shallower than what Ogata expected, his fighting strength not dropping at all, meanwhile, Ogata had a broken knee and was standing on sheer pride and force of will.

Azuma not being one to leave an opportunity unanswered calmly walked to Ogata, and did a hook-kick, also called Hwechook in the birthplace of Renewal, Azuma executed the kick three times in a row, once from the left, followed straight away from the opposite direction, then, at last from behind. This was the technique he never got the chance to use against Kensei.

Not expecting this from Azuma, Ogata was hit, the short distance between them plus the speed at which Azuma moved made Ogata not realize what happened until his world started to spin, losing balance, and blacking out if for only a few seconds, meaning that Ogata was the clear loser of this fight.

Ogata's head and neck hurt, meaning one of the kicks had to be against his head, and the other or others against the back of his neck, a place that could have killed him had Azuma used more strength.

Slowly and carefully to not aggravate his broken knee Ogata stood up, asking Azuma, "Why not kill me?"

Before Azuma could answer another voice sounded, "Why didn't you killed him?"

Not bothering to acknowledge the awoken Mayu, Azuma replied, "I didn't want to, as easy as that."

Ogata only nodded, and started walking away, watching him leave, Mayu tried to rush to him, only to be detained by Azuma, screaming at him, "Let me go! I need to have my revenge against him!"

Azuma only sighed and covered the girl's mouth, shouting at Ogata Azuma said, "Ogata!"

Making the man turn to face the winner of the fight, "Yes?"

"I was not lying when I told you, you need to calm yourself, if I were you, I would try to meditate on the issue.." Azuma having done his best to lead the man, quieted down. Ogata only nodded slightly and limped away, his silhouette quickly disappearing from their view.

Once Ogata was nowhere in sight, Azuma let Mayu go, the girl quickly shouting profanities at him, Azuma chose to continue ignoring the girl, ordering "Wait here for me."

Azuma rushed to the dojo, quickly trying to find Kai Midō's body, once he found it, he carried him outside, gently putting it on the floor. Seeing this Mayu broke into tears, Azuma asked the crying girl, "Do you need to call anyone? Maybe the father of the life in your stomach."

Quickly answering while whipping the tear from her eyes, "Yes, yes, my husband, my father's disciple, and the father."

Waiting for the man to arrive, Azuma and Mayu stayed sitting on the sidewalk. Once Tsutomu Tanaka arrived Mayu ran to hug him, and in tears explained the situation to him. Allowing the girl to finish her story Azuma waited. As she finished, Tsutomu, angry, worried, scared, and sad about what he just heard bowed in gratitude to Azuma.

"You have my deepest gratitude for saving my wife's and unborn child's life." Azuma accepted the bow and apology. Once the bow ended Azuma said his last piece.

"As I see it, your wife has two possible paths." Seeing Mayu was about to interrupt him, he added, "Let me finish." Seeing that she stayed silent he continued, "As I said I see two possible paths for her, one, although talented, being a master at eighteen, she needs to quit being a martial artist, her lack of self-control, and care for consequences will end up killing her."

Mayu tried to intervene once again, but this time Tsutomu, held her, he was listening carefully to the words this expert was saying, "And two?" He asked Azuma.

"Two, should she continue being a martial artist, there is a high probability she'll become a Satsujinken, quickly losing her reason when dealing with Ogata, becoming berserk, killing anyone on her path."

Mayu tried saying, "But.." Tsutomu interrupted her, "Thank you for being truthful with us, we will consider all options, and choose the best for Mayu, our baby, and our family."

Azuma only nodded, stood up, and started walking away, not before Tsutomu shouted at him, "What's your name?"

"Azuma" he shouted back and kept walking. Anxiously waiting to look for Shigure.
