RBTC: Chapter 9

Six months passed like this. The year was almost over. Roger's execution was getting closer.

During those six months, both of them had made enormous progress. Their weighted clothes were now at 20,000 jin, and the stones on their backs weighed 15,000 jin. With a total weight of 35,000 jin, they could easily complete 200 laps.

In swordsmanship, they could now wield the giant door-like sword at the bottom of the waterfall as easily as they had before. The power of their swordsmanship was naturally immense. Buggy and Shanks had even tested it. One strike could cleave a small mountain in two.

In martial arts, they could now use Rokushiki normally even with 20,000 jin of weight. They had also developed their own techniques based on Rokushiki.

In Haki, they had both awakened Armament and Observation Haki, but it wasn't very useful at this stage. They had only grasped the basics and couldn't use it in combat yet.

Right now, they were both standing in front of Rayleigh, who had arrived early that morning. They weren't training.

Their appearance had changed significantly. They were both much taller than they had been a year ago. They had been a little over 1.5 meters tall. Now, they were 1.7 meters tall. Their aura was also very strong. Standing there, they commanded respect.

Rayleigh was very satisfied with them. Their training had met, even exceeded, his expectations. In a year, they had made tremendous progress. They could now defend themselves on the seas. Rayleigh knew what Roger was going to do. He also knew that he would die this time. He respected Roger's choice and wouldn't try to save him, but he would definitely go see him off.

Thinking about this, Rayleigh's expression turned serious. Looking at the two in front of him, he decided to tell them. After all, Roger was their captain. They were practically his adopted sons. Without Roger, they might not even exist.

Seeing Rayleigh's expression, Buggy guessed what he was about to say. Counting the time, the big event was about to begin. The Great Pirate Era was about to dawn.

After thinking for a moment, Rayleigh said in a heavy voice, "I have a major announcement to make. This concerns the captain. But don't get excited. The captain has his own reasons. You should respect his decision. Don't be sad, don't be too upset, don't have any other thoughts, and don't try to interfere."

"Rayleigh-san, what is it? What happened to the captain?" Shanks asked anxiously. From what Rayleigh was saying, he knew something must have happened to the captain, and it wasn't good.

"Yeah, Rayleigh-san, tell us. What happened to the captain?"

Buggy knew what had happened, but he had to act appropriately. Otherwise, it would be too unreasonable.

Seeing their anxious expressions, Rayleigh simply said, "The captain has surrendered to the Marines. And in a month, the Marines will execute him in Loguetown."

"What? How is that possible? Why? Rayleigh-san, you're lying to us, right?" Shanks said anxiously.

"Impossible. Impossible. The captain wouldn't be that stupid," Buggy said anxiously as well.

"Calm down, you two. You all know that the captain's body can't last much longer. He has things he needs to do. And surrendering and being executed are key parts of it. I can't say much more right now. Come with me to witness it."

"No, absolutely not. Rayleigh-san, please, save the captain. Don't let him be executed."

"Shanks, you have to be calm. This is the captain's decision. No one can disrupt his plan. He has decided to gamble everything with his life. You should understand him."

"Rayleigh-san, the captain has things he needs to do. Isn't there another way? Does he really have to use his life to accomplish them?"

"Buggy, there's no other way. This has to be done at the cost of the captain's life. Otherwise, it can't be done."

Buggy and Shanks understood what Rayleigh was saying. There was no room for negotiation. The captain had made up his mind. He would use his own life to accomplish something great. And he wouldn't allow anyone to interfere.

Shanks didn't say anything else. He lowered his head and tears streamed down his face.

Buggy was the same. This emotion was an instinctive response. Knowing that there was nothing they could do to change things, tears also flowed from his eyes.

Rayleigh watched the two of them cry, but he didn't say anything to comfort them. This was a path they had to walk, and it was the captain's path as well. Crying would only do them good. Suppressing their emotions would be bad for their health. Crying their hearts out wouldn't shame them.

Rayleigh placed his hands on their heads, waiting for them to recover.

After a long time, Buggy said, "Rayleigh-san, can you take us to see the captain off? We want to see him one last time."

"Of course. I was thinking the same thing. It's the same for the two of you."

Hearing Buggy and Rayleigh's words, Shanks also looked at Rayleigh.

"Rayleigh-san, when are we leaving?" Shanks was eager to leave. He wanted to see the captain right away.

"I came here to take you. Pack your things. We can leave now."

Buggy and Shanks didn't have much to pack. They only took their personal belongings and the weighted clothes. They didn't bring the giant door-like sword.

The giant sword was too conspicuous. Roger was the Pirate King. His execution would be very grand, and security would be very tight. If they drew attention to themselves, the Marines wouldn't allow them to see him off, even if they wanted to. They might even attack them. Facing thousands of troops and the Marine higher-ups, they might even die, let alone see him off.

Once everything was packed, Buggy and Shanks followed Rayleigh to the beach and boarded the ship he had prepared.

This small boat was a small sailboat, much stronger than the small wooden boat they had arrived on. After they boarded, the sailboat set sail for Loguetown under Rayleigh's control.
