It felt like a mistake

He arrived at her house just when the sun shone brightly overhead. The light tiptoed into the rooms, casting soft shadows across the room. She was standing in the kitchen, her hands resting on the counter, looking out the window, but she turned as soon as she heard a knock.

She quickly reached for the door and opened it....revealing him standing there, looking effortlessly handsome in a casual shirt and jeans. His eyes softened when he saw her, a warm smile spreading across his face.

"Hey," he greeted, she stepped aside to let him in. "I was starting to get worried. You've been quiet since... well, you know." She managed a small smile "I just needed some time to think."

He nodded, "I understand". She lead him to the living room,"Can I get you anything? Coffee, tea...?" She asked politely.

"No, I'm good. Thanks." He gave her a small nod, stepping inside and feeling the familiar warmth of her home. But today, everything felt different. The weight of the decision she had made hung between them like a thick fog.

She took a seat beside him with a plush cushion, her hands resting on her lap as she tried to steady her nerves. They sat down in the living room for quite a while, the silence stretching on for a few moments.

For a moment, the words stuck in her throat. How could she put everything she was feeling into words? But then she thought of Rachel's innocent question about having a sibling, the way her daughter's eyes had lit up at the idea, and she knew she had to be brave. She knew there was no easy way to say what she needed to say.

He was patient, waiting for her to speak, but she could see the tension in his shoulders, the way his hands clenched slightly in his lap.

He too felt nervous, actually he prepared

"I've made a decision," she began, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach. "About the baby."

His eyes darkened slightly, and he leaned forward, as if bracing himself for the worst. "And what did you decide?"

She looked down, gathering her thoughts. "At first, I... I was terrified. I thought about all the reasons why I shouldn't keep this baby. The circumstances, how unplanned it was... how it felt like a mistake."

She paused, her voice catching as she tried to hold back tears. "But then I realized something. Creating this baby might have been a mistake, but... killing it would be a sin. And I... I don't have the heart to do that. I don't have the guts to take away the life of my own child."

A heavy silence filled the room. He closed his eyes for a moment, taking in her words, and when he opened them again, there was a deep sadness there that she hadn't expected.
