Chapter 250: It Can’t Be Finished. It Can’t Be Finished at All!

The seemingly endless meeting of the Kage summit finally concluded.

In the coming days, Cloud Ninja and Mist Ninja would be heading to the frontlines, leaving Shinki to rest peacefully in the village.

Now, all that remained was to wait for Cloud and Mist Ninja Villages to send money and for Sand and Iwa Ninja Villages to send ore. Shinki could already envision a life of luxury and ease just around the corner.

On the first day back in the village, emissaries from Cloud and Mist arrived, presenting colorful notes—a euphemism for money. To avoid temptation, the Hokage himself received the envoys on Shinki's behalf. The same treatment was extended to the envoys from Sand and Iwa who arrived later.

With cash in hand and ample materials at his disposal, Shinki's concerns about puppet materials evaporated. The ores alone from Iwa and Sand were enough to craft an army of puppets.

Becoming a one-man army? It was now only a matter of time.

For a few blissful days, Shinki rested at home. He basked in the sun on his second-floor balcony when he wasn't lounging indoors. But this idyllic life didn't last. It was abruptly interrupted by an irate Nara Shikaku, who appeared with "anger" practically written across his face.

"Senior, what brings you here?" Shinki asked cautiously, sensing trouble.

"Oh, nothing much." Shikaku's tone was laced with sarcasm. "I was just wondering when, Deputy Minister, you might actually visit the ANBU base."

He then delivered the blow: "The files in the minister's office are piled so high, they're practically touching the ceiling."

"???"

Files piling up? Shinki was stunned. "Didn't Tsunade go to handle them?"

You have the nerve to ask! Shikaku barely restrained himself from throttling Shinki. "I haven't seen her for days!"

"You two, the minister and deputy minister, have dumped all the ANBU work on me! Do you think ANBU is my personal property?"

The more Shikaku ranted, the more aggrieved he became. Did these two think he was some kind of workhorse, meant to drop dead from exhaustion?

Shinki's mind reeled. "Good grief, Tsunade!"

She had turned Konoha Hospital into her personal office in her pursuit of money, leaving ANBU entirely unattended. Shinki had assumed she would regularly handle ANBU matters, so he had taken a few days off himself.

Now, here was Shikaku, on the verge of a breakdown.

"Senior, you can't blame me. I just got back from the Land of Iron and needed to rest a few days. Surely, that's reasonable?"

Shikaku's eyes narrowed. "And what about Tsunade? Does she also need to rest?"

When Shinki explained Tsunade's recent behavior—abandoning all responsibilities to earn money—Shikaku was flabbergasted.

"Is money really that important to her?"

Well… yes.

Still, Shikaku wasn't about to let Shinki off the hook. "Fine. Tomorrow, I'm on sick leave. You'll have to take care of ANBU yourself."

Faced with Shikaku's ultimatum, Shinki reluctantly dragged himself to the ANBU base, where he stared at the mountain of documents in the minister's office.

"How long have these been piling up?" he asked.

Shikaku, looking far too pleased with himself, handed Shinki a cup of coffee and replied, "Ever since the Hokage left for the Kage Summit in the Land of Iron. Tsunade hasn't set foot in the office since then."

Shinki felt utterly cheated. Was this his fate, to be overworked no matter what?

Sifting through the documents, he came across one labeled Intelligence Processing on the Frontlines.

He glanced at Shikaku and said, "Senior, in the future, send these directly to the Intelligence Department. They can handle them."

"Wait, what?" Shikaku stared in disbelief. "ANBU intelligence is supposed to stay within ANBU. Why should the Intelligence Department handle it?"

"Just send it over when we're busy. They'll thank us later," Shinki replied with a cough, feigning innocence. "After all, don't we share information with them anyway?"

Shikaku was torn between outrage and reluctant agreement. It does make sense, he thought. If ANBU was too busy, why not let the Intelligence Department handle the smaller tasks? When things were calmer, ANBU could take over again.

Shinki made the decision without hesitation. "It's settled, then."

With Shikaku's help, they sorted through the files, offloading the bulk of the work to the Intelligence Department. When the department received the documents, the staff's jaws hit the floor.

"What is this? ANBU intelligence? Why is this here? Aren't they supposed to process their own information?"

But by then, Shinki had already washed his hands of the matter.

In the following days, Shinki noticed his workload had significantly decreased. ANBU now only handled critical intelligence, while the Intelligence Department took care of the rest.

The Intelligence Department, of course, wasn't happy. They filed a formal complaint to the Hokage's office.

"Hokage-sama, ANBU has been sending us a mess of unorganized intelligence, making our work unbearable!"

Sarutobi Hiruzen rubbed his temples, listening to the complaints. He sighed deeply, muttering, "First root, now this…"

It seemed that chaos followed wherever Shinki was involved.
