Chapter 39: The Meteorite

Thame gasped and almost screamed, but Roseanne quickly covered her mouth with her hand. Azriel moved fast, aimed his silenced gun, and shot the zombie in the head. The soft thud of the bullet was barely audible, and the zombie went still.

The group paused, their hearts pounding. They looked at Thame, who was trembling and scared.

"Are you okay?" Reed asked quietly.

Thame nodded, though she still looked shaken. "I'm fine. Just... scared."

Zach looked around to make sure no other zombies had heard. "We need to keep moving," he whispered. "Stay close."

They started walking again, even more alert than before. Thame stayed close to Roseanne, still scared from what had happened.

After a few minutes, Thame couldn't stay quiet. "Roseanne," she whispered, "how are you not scared? You were so calm."

Roseanne smiled softly. "I just remember what we've learned," she said.
