At a big, private hospital.
The entrance was streaming with people going in and out. It didn't matter who they are but when one went to a hospital, it was either for a minor or a serious matter.
And inside the ICU, a female was lying in the bed at the center of the hotel-like hospital room. The constant beeping sound of the machines around her was giving off a peaceful yet, tensed melody.
Slowly, the female regained consciousness. Her body wasn't moving but her ears were working and tried to listen to the beeping sound beside her and the hushed voices in the room.
"Is it normal for her to sleep for two days?" A voiced that belonged to a man asked.
"She just got a coronary bypass surgery so there shouldn't be any problems." A female voice answered the man.
"I know but wasn't she supposed to wake up once the effect of the anesthesia runs out?" The man asked once again.
He wasn't wrong about that. Although there are some cases where people who undergo bypass surgery waking up later than usual, it wouldn't usually take them two days to wake up. She was also showing a fast recovery that she no longer needed a ventilator to help her breathe.
They took into consideration the complication of the surgery and the female who had undergone a bypass surgery wasn't that in a serious condition as the bullet that passed through her body only ended up half a centimeter away from her heart. Hence, she didn't really need a bypass surgery.
However, because her heart wasn't beating when she first arrived in the hospital, the doctors thought that it would be better if they did the surgery anyway to make sure.
"We'll check on her again later." The female voice was drifting away, "Just press the emergency button if there are any changes to the patient."
The soft click of the door, once it was closed, filled the room. Soon, the man went to seat on the couch in the room.
He should be in the office right now, doing some work on the last case about the serial killer. And yet, he was here to look after the lady who was found bleeding to death at the crime scene.
Yang Chao crinkled his nose and wanted to call his friend, Huai Xiao, so he could get out of here and let his friend take the task of looking after the lady.
Kaisar was supposed to be here and not him. However, the almighty detective had a lot of work to do, thus Huai Xiao and Yang Chao were tasked to look after the lady by taking turns.
Feeling bored, Yang Chao pulled out his phone and played some mobile games. It didn't take long for him to get immersed in it and the next thing he knew, his eyes drooped close and he fell asleep on the couch.
As his deep snore filled the room along with the beeping sound, the lady in the bed finally stirred.
Her finger was the first thing that moved before her eyes opened.
She blinked her eyes a few times to get it used to the blindingly ceiling lights. Then, she closed it only to open it once again.
'Where am I?' Yang Mi thought to herself as she stared at the ceiling. The ceiling didn't answer her question and remained silent and cold.
She tried to move her body but it wouldn't move. It felt so numb and the strength in it felt like it was being drained the more she laid on the bed.
With great effort, she moved her head. She looked like an infant doing some head lolling. She refused to look so pathetic but Yang Mi had to surrender to her powerlessness.
She drifted to sleep once more. It took her almost fifteen minutes to wake up and that's when she felt more energetic than the first time she woke up.
Unlike the first time, she could finally move her head and hands. But the task of moving her whole body was another story. She tried a few times of raising her body out of the bed but it refused to do so.
It took her another ten minutes to finally get her upper body straight so she could sit down.
Looking around her, Yang Mi finally recognized where she was. It was the place the humans called a clinic or hospital. It was where they sent the humans who will either live or die.
But why was she there? She was a being who lived in the world between the two realms of the living and dead.
But then again, the weirdest of them all was that why did her body feel so heavy?
Looking down at her body, rather than her usual translucent form as a spirit, Yang Mi found herself inside a real body. A human body.
Struck with shock and appalled by the knowledge of her discovery. No, this wasn't happening! This is impossible!
How could she turn into a human?!
She cursed loudly at the sky. She wanted to demand answers from them for doing this to her. She wanted to scream at them.
No, she screamed but it turned into a fit of coughs as her throat felt so dry and papery.
Her fits soon interrupted Yang Chao's sleep and he woke up. He abruptly sat up in startle and looked at her.
Their eyes stared for a few seconds before he leaped towards her and said, "You're awake!"
Yang Mi rolled her eyes. 'Yes, I am awake. Captain obvious.', was what she wanted to say but her words were drowned by her cough that brought pain in her chest.
I need water. Never in her life did Yang Mi thought that she wanted to drink. Her mouth badly wanted something to wet it and her saliva won't just do it.
"Wa.." *cough* "ter!" She choked up and held a hand above her chest.
Seeing her discomfort, Yang Chao thought that she was in pain and ran outside.
That brat! Where's he going?! There should be water nearby so why did he went outside? Was he planning to fetch her some mountain spring water?
