Chapter 23

" The next match is Axel Black vs Tokoyami Fumikage. " Midnight yelled as both contestants walked onto the arena.

" Who would win? Tokoyami has dark shadow and attack at a distance but Axel is good in close quarters. Dark Shadow is weak to light, meaning if Axel's barriers can reflect light, he would probably win. There is also the fact that Tokoyami probably can't break through the barriers in the first place." Midoriya muttered as he looked at the arena.

His classmates looked at him before Bakugou lost his patience.

" Shut up nerd! I'm trying to watch the fight!" Bakugou yelled with his usual face.

Midoriya flinched as he apologized to him and his classmates before looking back at the field. However, what he said was already in his classmate's heads.

Mina and Kirishima though knew that Axel's was going to win from the start.

Tokoyami looked at Axel from his side of the arena while Axel stared back at him.

" Begin. " Midnight yelled.

" Dark shadow. " Tokoymai said as Dark Shadow emerged from Tokoyami's stomach and rushed towards Axel.

Extending his claws, Dark shadow launched its hand straight towards Axel who merely stood there.

* bam *

Dark Shadows hand slammed into Axel's barrier and bounced off. He then tried to break it by repeatedly attacking the same point on the barrier.

' Attacking the same point repeatedly could produce a crack in the barrier. If that's the case we could have a chance to get through. ' Tokoyami thought as he looked at Axel who stared at him with his usual look.

As Dark shadow went for another attack, the barrier suddenly moved and slammed into him.

The barrier kept moving and then slammed into Tokoyami who couldn't dodge. Still moving, the barrier pushed both Tokoyami and Dark shadow out of bounds.

They were falling towards the ground, but Dark shadow rushed towards the arena and grabbed onto the ground.

The audience was surprised as well as the other classes. Tokoyami was hanging about 5 feet off the ground using Dark Shadow.

" Tokoyami hasn't touched the ground, meaning he isn't out of bounds. The match is still on. " Midnight yelled.

The audience cheered as Tokoyami used Dark Shadow and lifted himself onto the arena.

' That was impressive. Dark shadow could hold Tokoyami off the floor like that. By the looks of things, Dark shadow wasn't affected by it but Tokoyami was. Guess it took more energy than he thought. ' Axel thought.

Tokoyami looked at Axel but he was breathing heavily. He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

He stopped using Dark Shadow as he looked at Midnight.

" I forfit. " Tokoyami said.

Midnight nodded her head as she said, " Tokoyami forfeits. Axel is the winner. "

The audience was quite disappointed. After Tokoyami saved himself from losing from going out of bounds, this wants really what they wanted.

It made sense though, as Axel's barriers could block Dark shadow easily. He couldn't breakthrough.

Tokoyami however was satisfied with the results. Though he did lose, he did whatever he could to show his skills.

" Good game. " Tokoyami said.

" Good game. " Axel said in return.

Nodding their heads to each other, they left the arena as they went back to their classmates.

...

" Next match is Mina Ashido vs Denki Kaminari. " Midnight said as the crowd cheered for the both of them.

" I'm winning this thing. " Denki said with a grin.

" Yeah no. " Mina said with a smile as she got ready.

" Match begin. " Midnight said.

Immediately, Denki discharged electricity which ran across the arena towards Mina.

Mina jumped into the air above the electricity, avoiding it but Denki had a smirk on his face as he saw Mina starting to fall to the ground.

' I won. Once she touches the ground, she'll get electrocuted. ' Denki thought.

Mina however smirked as she placed her hands together, mimicking a nozel. She then used her quirk to launch out a jet of acid at the ground.

The impact was strong, as it touched the ground and moved her upwards. However, the electricity that Denki produced did travel up the acid but it wasn't as fast. Mina stopped using her acid as she stayed in the air of the arena.

This was enough as Denki used up the electricity he had and went into dumb mode.

Mina landed on the ground and ran to Denki. She stood in front of him and pushed him out of bounds without any issues.

" Denki is out of bounds. Mina is the winner. " Midnight yelled as the crowd cheered.

Axel smiled softly at Mina's victory. She had trained hard and learned more about her quirk in preparation for the festival.

' Acids can conduct electricity, but at varying levels. Strong acids can conduct electricity easily but weak acids can't conduct electricity that well. ' Axel thought.

Mina had stayed up late to do more research about acids since she can alter the ph of her acid making it resemble a weak acid.

'The moment she shot herself upwards and the electricity ran across the acid, it didn't reach her as she stopped using her quirk. This allowed her to avoid the electricity and made Denki overtax his quirk. ' Axel thought.

He was at how far Mina had come from before. After all, he was the one who helped her most of the time during the training periods.

" Up next. Bakugou Katsuki vs Uraraka Ochaco. " Midnight said.

Both contestants stood in the arena. Both of them were extremely focused as Bakugou didn't even make his usual face of arrogance.

' Bakugou will win this fight. ' Axel thought. He was sure of that. While Uraraka's quirk is strong and if she touched Bakugou, she could push out of bounds, then release him and make him fall onto the ground for the win, Bakugou can maneuver himself in the air with explosions.

" Begin. " Midnight yelled.

Axel watched with interest at Uraraka's strategy to use the broken arena and use it to attack Bakugou. It wasn't enough as Bakugou destroyed all of it.

Bakugou won the match. Axel was quite perplexed at most of the heroes who didn't even understand what Bakugou was doing in this match.

Luckily though, Aizawa was there to provide some guidance to those imbeciles, so Axel just ignored them as he didn't want to lose brain cells over thinking the incident.
