GRINDING

The surveillance video played to when the boy was staring at the air in front of him, as if in a daze. Suddenly, he raised his right hand and did a weird movement that shocked Chris to the core.

The young man had pointed his hand towards the glass, and then the space in front seem to turn into glass, and shattered!

It created a powerful impact that instantly shattered the glass, causing it to fly towards the wall at an astonishing speed!

"Well, I'll be damned."

Chris had a look of astonishment on his face.

"Isn't his ability absorbing light? When did he get this strange ability? And looks like its destructive power is not bad."

"Although it seems to be a close range ability, it is much better than before. At least he has a way to resist if gets attacked."

Giving it a thought, he made his way back up to the bedroom. Kevin looked at the man with puzzled look, not knowing why he was back.

"Hey Kid, isn't your ability sunlight absorption? How come you can do that?"

As he said that, he raised his right hand, trying to replicate the hand movement.

Taken aback, Kevin asked, "How did you know?"

"Ah! Sorry kid, I saw the documents in your pocket before." Then Chris took out the tablet and showed it to him the surveillance feed, "And this..."

"You've been monitoring me?" Kevin asked with a frown.

Chris awkwardly scratched his head. "You know, as a mutant, you've always got to be vigilant. I've installed cameras throughout the house, not just here."

As he said that, he walked to the shelf and pulled down a brown teddy bear that had been sitting there.

"Don't worry, kid, I won't invade your privacy anymore," he said with a straight face.

"So, you didn't answer me yet, your ability..."

Kevin had a sudden urge to test his newest ability on Chris' shameless face, but then he remembered that the man had saved his life.

"As you said, a mutant must always be vigilant, so I hid a little something up my sleeve."

"Yes, you did good." Chris nodded his head in approval. "Always remember, kid, Constant Vigilence!" "That's how you survive in his world."

After saying this, he shook his head and walked out.

Watching him leave, Kevin breathed a sigh of relief. It was getting really hard not to punch the man.

Now that he calmed down, he noticed some changes in himself.

"Has the energy capacity of the body has increased again..."

It should now be enough to release black particles almost sixteen times. Kevin couldn't help but smile a little.

Opening the panel, he discovered something that made his eyes light up.

His estimated life span on the panel had actually increased by one. There seemed to be a direct relationship between his body's energy capacity and his life span.

It made sense as even before he got the imitation ability, the light energy could make his body recover faster. This gave Kevin some hope for the future.

"Does this mean that it's possible to live longer by increasing the amount of light in the body?"

Considering this, he couldn't help but want to collect more light energy quickly, so he walked to the window and fully opened the curtains. It was a little risky as the neighbours might see him, but he still took the risk.

Sunlight soon illuminated his whole body, giving him a wonderful feeling.

Noticing the increase in energy points, Kevin was in a good mood, but it didn't last long. From the window, he saw multiple men in uniform knocking at a door in a distance. They were still looking for him.

The temporary comfort had almost made him forget he was still being hunted. He quickly backed away from the window and crouched down. He had a serious look in his eyes.    

He knew that with his current strength, it would be very hard to escape if they found him.

"I need to get stronger right now!" Kevin said, clenching his fists. 

After thinking for a moment, he decided to first improve Spatial Shift.

"The current environment is not suitable for practicing other things. Let's practice this first!"

He started spamming the ability.

His figure disappeared and reappeared again and again. Flickering like a glitched video game character, looking eerie.

"Guess I can also use this ability to scare people to death," He thought jokingly.

Upon reaching about half of the energy in his body, he paused, as he had noticed a problem.

If he keeps practicing, he will consume all the energy stored in his body. And to replenish that energy, his body will utilise all the absorbed sunlight, causing the collection of energy points on the panel to halt. 

In other words, Kevin must choose between advancing the Imitation Progress and improving his abilities.

Gritting his teeth, Kevin decided to focus on improving the strength of his abilities. After all, his current abilities are already well rounded, but they lack enough power.

Time flew quickly as he practised....

With an adequate supply of sunlight from the window, the energy in his body automatically recovered, which allowed him to grind faster.

Soon it was noon.

The numbers on the panel kept jumping and soon a pleasant beep sounded.

Finally reached Level 2!

Kevin eagerly felt the changes in the ability.

The most obvious change is that the maximum distance of spatial transfer and has increased!

After testing, he found that the distance has increased from the original two meters to a distance of almost ten meters!

"Let's fucking go!"

With this upgrade, he felt a lot safer. Escaping encirclements will be a lot easier in the future.

Even though the increase was only a few meters, it was enough. Especially in an area like this where houses were so close by, he can shift through houses one after other. It will be very difficult to track him here.

The bad news was that the difficulty of the next level upgrade increased a lot. It will be difficult to level it up again in a short while.

Kevin shifted his attention to Black Particles next, his only long-range attack at present.

"It will be great if its range further increases," he thought. "I should be able to level it up before sundown."

But Kevin knew it wouldn't be long before they found him. They seemed to go door to door and throughly checking each house and they were most likely covering all exits out of this area.

"If this continues, they will find this place eventually, but I'll be ready for them." Kevin thought, with a sharp glint in eyes.
