Chapter 77: Assassinating Captain America

Tony Stark's heart sank when he realized the coincidence. He had bought the strawberries because he thought Pepper liked them!

"It's strawberries!" Pepper Potts rolled her eyes.

"You're allergic to strawberries? Why didn't you say so?" Tony Stark couldn't help but question his life choices. He finally decided to give a gift to the woman in his heart, but it backfired.

"Stark, do you have something to say?" Pepper Potts didn't dwell on the strawberries.

"I suddenly feel like there's something wrong with the decoration at home." Tony Stark stood up and walked towards the expo model leaning against the wall. "It would be much better if we use that to decorate."

"Tony, can you just say what you want to do?" Pepper Potts said with a headache.

"Fine, I need it." Tony Stark said.

"What do you need it for?"

"To invent a new element."

"But it's just an expo model. What does it have to do with elements?"

"If you can figure it out, you'll become a genius like me." After a brief exchange with Pepper Potts, Tony Stark, just like in the video, took the expo model back.

"Jarvis, create a digital model. I need an interactive projection screen." Without resting, Tony Stark immediately immersed himself in his research.

"The 1974 Stark Industries Expo..." Jarvis began the scan.

"Highlight the large globe."

"Remove the walkway."

"Remove the landscaping."

Following the steps in the video, Tony Stark effortlessly created a projection of the new element.

From then on, Tony Stark followed the video's instructions, buying equipment, assembling a particle accelerator, and working tirelessly, often forgetting to eat.

After working tirelessly for half a month, a brand-new core was finally completed.

"It's truly beautiful." Tony Stark held the triangular new core in front of his eyes with tweezers, and a smile appeared on his lips.

"You are my greatest creation." The words of Howard Stark echoed in Tony Stark's ears, and his eyes became slightly moist.

"Thank you, Dad." Tony Stark was not usually sentimental, but after expressing gratitude to his deceased father, he placed the new core of the element into the arc reactor.

The core flashed a few times and lit up the entire reactor. Though it was only palm-sized, in Tony Stark's eyes, it was as dazzling as the most magnificent light show.

"Sir, the reactor has accepted the updated core," Jarvis's voice rang out. "I will proceed with testing."

In the original timeline, Tony Stark would have received a call from Ivan Vanko at this point and had no time for Jarvis to conduct tests. He would have directly installed the new arc reactor into his chest.

But now, Tony Stark didn't have the threat of Ivan Vanko. He had plenty of time for Jarvis to conduct tests.

The test results were very satisfactory to Tony Stark. The new core perfectly adapted to the arc reactor, and its data surpassed the palladium core in all aspects.

"I've finally resolved the palladium poisoning." Tony Stark finally felt relieved as he placed the new arc reactor in his chest.

"Sir, there's a call coming in. It's Nick Fury." Just as Tony Stark was about to take a shower and rest, a call came in.

"Put it through." Tony Stark said, and Jarvis immediately connected the call.

"Fury, I was about to sleep. You better have a good reason to explain why you're disturbing my beauty sleep." Tony Stark said.

"Stark, need I remind you that it's four o'clock in the afternoon? Are you planning to sleep?" Nick Fury said.

"Is that not allowed?"

"Stark, we found Captain America. He's alive." Nick Fury said.

"Where?" Tony Stark couldn't care about his fatigue anymore and immediately stood up from the soft couch.

"He's in the Arctic Ocean. I'll send you the coordinates." Nick Fury said.

Click!

Tony Stark hung up the phone directly.

Even upon hearing the news about Captain America, Tony Stark remained calm and took a leisurely bath. He then proceeded to enjoy a sandwich with a glass of wine.

After working for so long, he was really hungry. Even with such big news, he needed to fill his stomach first.

"Sir, Captain America has really been found! He's alive!" When Nick Fury informed Tony Stark, a call was also made to Alexander Pierce.

"I didn't expect him to still be alive?" Alexander Pierce was momentarily stunned, then coldly asked, "Are you ready?"

"Everything is ready."

"Then proceed according to the plan. This time, let Steve Rogers close his eyes forever!" A flicker of killing intent flashed in Alexander Pierce's eyes.

On a certain spot of the sea, a ship was anchored, and Maria Hill was on the deck giving orders.

Maria Hill was fully focused on salvaging Captain America, unaware that her every move was being watched.

"No rush, wait until they break the thick ice shell covering Captain America." J.A.R.V.I.S. replied.

Captain America was frozen within a massive block of ice, larger than Maria Hill's ship. It was impossible to remove all of these ice blocks, so Maria Hill had to chip away at them first.

Seconds turned into minutes, and the sun began to set as nightfall approached.

Finally, Maria Hill managed to chip away the large ice block covering Captain America, leaving only a rectangular block resembling a coffin enclosing him.

"Get Captain up immediately and bring him back to S.H.I.E.L.D. for thawing." Maria Hill gave the order.

The divers worked together to bring Captain America to the surface and pushed the "ice coffin" towards the ship.

Swish, swish, swish!

But at that moment, in the darkness of the night, a barrage of projectiles rained down from above, aiming at the surfaced Captain America.
