Ch 242: Strict rules

Thereupon that point, Jay and the men under his Division didn't play around. They immediately took me back inside with Abby and Maria. Without talking to any of us. Jay only seemed to be sure I followed by his side when he led us to enter this living room.

Already in here was Abby's husband Rick. Along with a few other guys toward the back at the bar. With Cory giving us a cold eye. To the left from walking in just a little ways from the entrance. Nick and Aaron were each sitting on these two individual comfortable cushion chairs. That had a round small table stand separating between them. Behind them was a long rectangular-shaped window with a white lace-tied sheer curtain on each end of the window. Across from Aaron and Nick was a long couch facing the window.

I watched as Jay went around the high stool island bar whispering to Cory sitting with a handful of other men listening in. Cory's cold eyes shift toward me standing between Abby and Maria who are next to their husbands. I overheard Jay informing Cory of what happened outside with the albino lioness. And I could definitely tell he wasn't happy to hear everything Jay was saying to him.

"It was unusual behavior for that female lioness." I overheard Jay say. "Normally she goes about her own way but for some reason, she seemed determined to attack Sally."

Cory kinda nodded as his eyes seemed to turn icy. What is Cory's deal? Ever since Jeff and Conner got into that fight, Cory has now been acting so moody compared to how he was this morning when I woke up. Honestly, it made me wish I never left the room. I should've stayed in bed rather than put up with this. I felt belittled like I was a kid caught sneaking cookies out of the cookie jar. This is ridiculous, I felt annoyed by Cory's absurd grumpiness.

"Why did you even go outside?" John questioned his wife Maria after Jay was done telling Cory what had happened. "We wanted fresh air," Maria said innocently. "We were playing, find the insects."

I could tell by her expression she was puzzled as to why John was seeming to scold her. But as soon as Maria told John we were playing, find the insects. All the men in the room raised this unusual brow at us.

"Yes, we know it's a kid's game," Abby clarified like she read their minds. "As you can tell we were bored."

"Abby, if you're bored then why didn't you wake me?" Rick questioned her. "We could go do something."

"You were sleeping, so I wasn't going to wake you," Abby sweetly buttered him up. "We stayed in the garden as we were told. Nobody was expecting a lioness to come up to the fountain."

Still at the bar, Jay told us, "she likes that fountain but she's never acted like that before."

"Maybe she's pregnant from finding a mate," Nick theorized. "Female creatures get aggressive when they're pregnant."

"I was thinking that myself," Jay seemed to contemplate. "However, I question why she was going after Sally."

Nick chuckled, "because Sally has this habit where odd things keep happening to her." Nick's eyes shift from me to glance at Cory at the bar. "I am telling you Cory we need to put her in a bubble."

There was some mild çhuckling going around at Nick's seemingly funny joke. Although I have a strange feeling he sorta meant it since he does have a point. But I won't admit that out loud, I thought, as the guys still chuckled it out. The only one who didn't seem amused was Cory since he remained quiet with a stern face.

After some silence Cory spoke, keeping a serious face. "Yeah, I am starting to think so." He stopped speaking like he was thinking about something on his mind, I assumed.

"Alright, well, obviously no one is in trouble and more importantly neither of you three ladies got hurt. With that being said from this point on. None of the women are allowed to venture off outside today. If they're outside they need to be bought back in. Only the men can go outside and chill. This will make it easier for them to get a break. Without the women running into trouble and needing to be watched. Any woman who sneaks out will be disciplined for disobeying my orders." Cory announced his stern and stringent authority as primary King.

I was a bit baffled to hear his strict ruling with the women. I mean even if any woman who sneaks outside will be punished? Then what got me even more nonplussed was that Cory said Abby, Maria, and I weren't trouble. After he sanctioned us to go outside. He honestly had to say that like a debate on whether or not we would need punishment! Is Cory for real?

Just as Abby said a moment ago. We didn't deliberately plan to run into a lioness from inside the garden! From my point of view, there isn't anything to debate here!

I was very frustrated since I didn't wanna be indoors. Honestly, I hated Cory's strict rules. At this point, I debated heading back to the room to avoid Cory altogether. This way I wouldn't have to put up with his bad temper.

Regardless of the fact, I understood that he was trying to keep me and the other women safe. Plus he was cutting his men a break from their duty. He could have rephrased his wording more kindly, I felt.

"Well, since I am awake. You can come with me, Abby. This way we can have some quality time together." Rick said, taking Abby's hand to leave.

"That sounds like an idea," John concurred. "Maria, you can come hang out with me."

Well, since I have no one to hang out with I followed to head back to the room.

"Sally, you're staying here with me," Cory made sure to address me since he saw me taking off. "This is a time for the wives to be with their husbands. You can hang out with friends whenever their husbands aren't working."

"I wasn't going with them," I turned to tell Cory when Abby left the room with her husband Rick. "I was going back to the room."

Cory's eyes narrowed at me demandingly with an icy breath. "Take a seat on the couch, Sally. I want you with me."

Are you serious! Is what I wanted to say. However, the look he gave me was rigorously harsh and I didn't feel like crossing my luck with him. So I plopped on the middle couch cushion across from Nick and Aaron. Maria gave me an empathizing expression as John took her hand to leave. Until Josh came into the room with clear stress written on his face as if something serious had happened.
