Chapter Two

Yue Yue smiled at the middle aged man as she stood beside her father and listened to their discussion which where mostly about work. This was going to be the fourth one, her father wanted to introduce her to many businessmen that knew their stand in the circle and she had made small talks, drinking to them and faking a smile. She wished only to slip away right now but it won't be possible as she was still contributing in the discussion.

After some minutes when her dad had immersed himself in his discussion with Mr Yang, she excused herself and slipped away. She didn't want to talk to anybody again, so she walked out of the hall to the front veranda that was barely lit, the only source of light was the one emitting from the moon.

As soon as she got there, the cool night breeze welcomed her, ruffling her hair in the process. She smiled as she closed her eyes to feel the breeze. She was glad she had escaped from all those noise and was finally alone. She twirled the glass of wine in her hand as the champagne shimmered in the moon light, omitting a nice fragrance. She wasn't a drinker, but occasions like this when she has to fake a smile and act submissive, she would steal an alone time where she would drink only a glass of champagne. She opened her eyes and took a ship of the drink, savouring the taste. It was the same glass she have been holding since her dad started the introduction round. The wine tasted subtle and sweet. She haven't noticed the taste earlier and that was because her gesture of drinking the wine then was fake but now she gets to enjoy such taste.

The Chen family were better in standing that the two families so were not obligated to honour the invitation, but some prominent families were attending due to the ties the Zhou family share with the Zhu family. The Zhu family were in higher standing than even the Chen family, so it was obvious that many prominent families would attend. Father Chen wanted to use the opportunity to build ties for the company.

The moon accompanied her in her solace. This was an engagement party between two middle class families the Tang and the Zhou's. Zhou Meilin the daughter of Zhou Fa and Zhu Nuwa was getting engaged to Tang Longwei the second young master of the Tang family. The two parties had been engaged for a long time and had decided to make the Union known to the world. It is known that the Tang family had encountered issues in their business. Since the Zhou family were trending in the same line of business, the Tang family have used the opportunity that presented itself through the engagement, wanting to rebuild their empire again after considering the engagement that they had neglected. The Zhou family also had their motive, but it was clear that not only were they using the Tang family as a stepping stone, they also wanted to make sure that their precious daughter never suffer. If they were to help the Tang family, they were planning to tie them down with a plan that will make their daughter comfortable. Everybody in Zinchin city have heard of Zhou Meilin, she was a well known beauty and a musician. Even though she wasn't doing well in the industry, she has the Zhou family backing her up. Yue Yue who had done research on most prominent families during her return had heard a lot about the twenty nine year old lady and her life style. Compared to the Tang second master, they were not a perfect match. Not that the Tang second master was a saint, he had his own scandals but they weren't as much as Zhou Meilins'. It just so happened that even though the Tang second master loathed the engagement, he still had to get married if he doesn't want the family business to go bankrupt and Zhou Meilin who had the power to stop the engagement had unluckily for him fallen for his charms so it was a do if die affair. If Meilin had rejected him, the Zhou family would have annulled the engagement, but since he was a man that their precious daughter fancied, they wanted to fulfill her wish.

Soon an announcement floated to Yue Yue who was still standing at the balcony. The engagement party was about to start. She walked inside steadily and looked for a quiet spot and stood. She wanted the party to be over quickly so she would go home and rest. From where she stood, she could see the couple. Zhou Meilin was really a beauty, she has a diamond shaped face that was well graced and a nice body and her pale skin shone well thanks to the white cloth she was wearing, the cloth complimented her skin colour well her only problem Yue Yue figured was her height. She was just five feet six that Yue Yue figured that even if they were to stand together, she would be taller than her despite the nine inches heel she was Wearing. Tang Longwei was good looking but not the killer type and he was too lean. These type of men, Yue Yue never gets along with them and his face was staring at the distance as they exchanged rings clearly showing his dissatisfaction. Everybody knew that the marriage was for political purposes anyone even if at the long run a party fell in a one sided love.

With the scene in front, Yue Yue couldn't help but think of her life, how was hers going to be and who would it be. Her father was ever ready to ship her off to the highest bidder without even caring about her wellfare and it really worried her. Zhou Meilin was far better than her, she still has her family to back her up if things were not going according to plan. But what of her, she only had herself and looks. She wasn't one that believes in using your look to get what you want. She was really worried. She knew that wanting to marry our of love was something that she couldn't wish for. She was just a tool anyway. She closed her eyes to block the scene in front. Her life was really a pitiful one she really wished that just like those fairytale princesses, that a prince charming would appear and sweep her off her feet to a happy ever after.
