In the heart of Japan, Kazemachi Sota was a high school football legend, the fastest and most skilled quarterback the Nishikawa Hawks had ever seen. But a devastating injury shattered his dreams, leaving him to navigate a new life of uncertainty. Labeled "the bird with clipped wings," Kazemachi struggles to find his place in a world without the sport that defines him. Just as hope seems lost, an unexpected invitation from a spirited girl named Aiko reignites his passion. She invites him to join the school’s flag football team, a game of strategy and speed, offering him a chance to redefine himself. Will Kazemachi find a new way to soar, or will the shadows of his past keep him grounded forever? This is a journey of self-discovery and triumph against all odds.
Kazemachi Sota worked tirelessly in his rehabilitation, driven by a renewed sense of purpose. The days in the hospital were now a blur of intense physical therapy sessions, each one pushing him to his limits.
The pain was excruciating at times, but Sota refused to give in. His brother Riku's words echoed in his mind, a constant reminder of the strength and resilience he needed to find within himself.
The therapists pushed him hard, their encouragement blending with his own determination. Every step, every exercise, every small victory was a testament to his resolve.
The once seemingly insurmountable challenges gradually became more manageable, and Sota could feel his body responding. Muscles that had weakened began to regain their strength, and his balance and coordination improved with each passing day.
Months went by, and Sota's progress was remarkable. His doctors and therapists were impressed by his dedication and resilience. By the end of the rehabilitation period, he was able to walk with minimal assistance.
His movements, though not as fluid as they once were, had regained a sense of normalcy. The dream of being the star quarterback still lingered in the back of his mind, but Sota knew he needed to focus on the present.
As summer came to an end, it was time for Sota to return to school. He had transferred to the nearest high school from their house, a decision made to ease his commute. The thought of starting anew was both daunting and exciting. He wanted to leave behind the shadows of his past and embrace the possibilities of his future.
On the first day of school, Sota stood in front of his mirror, adjusting his uniform. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the nerves that fluttered in his stomach.
His reflection stared back at him, a mixture of determination and uncertainty etched on his face. He knew this was his chance to reset his life, to forge a new path.
"Sota , breakfast is ready!" his mother called from downstairs.
"Coming," he replied, grabbing his backpack and heading down.
His mother greeted him with a warm smile as he entered the kitchen. "You look handsome, Sota. Are you ready for your first day?"
Nodding his head, Sota felt his insides churning as anxiousness kicked in. He was more nervous compared to when he brought his team to the finals. 'Even my right leg is shaking in sheer anticipation.' He jokingly said to himself as he took in a deep breath and exhaled.
His mother placed a plate of rice and fish in front of him. "You'll do great. Just be yourself, and you'll make new friends in no time."
He smiled at her encouragement and began eating his breakfast. The familiar tastes and smells were comforting, grounding him in the present moment. After finishing his meal, he stood up, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and walked to the door.
"I'll see you later, Mom," he said, slipping on his shoes.
"Have a good day, Sota," she replied, her eyes filled with pride and hope.
Sota stepped outside, taking in the crisp morning air. The sky was a clear blue, and the gentle breeze carried the scent of cherry blossoms. It was the start of spring, and the streets were lined with trees in full bloom.
The delicate pink petals danced in the wind, creating a picturesque scene that seemed to symbolize new beginnings.
He walked to school, the journey shorter and more pleasant than he had anticipated. As he approached the school gates, he could see clusters of students chatting and laughing, their voices blending into a lively hum. The sight filled him with a mix of anxiety and anticipation. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the day ahead.
As he entered the school grounds, he was greeted by the sight of cherry blossom petals floating down like confetti. The beauty of the scene was almost surreal, and for a moment, Sota felt a sense of peace.
Right on top of the school gate was a huge banner that fluttered in the wind. It welcomed the first day, and the new students who were just arriving at school. Senpais lined up at the gates to greet everyone, giving them phamplets and congratulating them for passing the entrance exam.
Heaving yet another exhale, Sota prepared for the worst as he entered the school gates. The cacophony of indistinct conversations became much louder, causing him to shrink away as he respectfully bowed at his upperclassmen, gratefully receiving their congratulations.
Ironically enough, although this was the nearest school from their place, Sota didn't know a soul. It was the exact definition of a fresh start and that sentiment slightly alleviated his worries.
He walked through the courtyard, his eyes taking in the new surroundings, when a sudden burst of energy caught his attention.
With a skip in her steps, a vibrant girl could be seen running towards the group of upperclassmen who were by the door. The cliche toast-on-the-mouth entrance was nothing short of surprising, clearly showing everyone that she slept in.
"Mmmhmmhmf!" She greeted one of the upperclassmen, implying that she woke up late. Somehow, her appearance added to the overall ambiance of the school.
Sota couldn't help but stare at her for a bit. From a short distance, she looked like a normal girl, with vibrant brown eyes and brown hair, and a little bit of tan on her skin. She was on the shorter side, but that didn't deduct from the cheerfulness she exuded.
"Ah," She let out a short interjection as she pointed at Sota . "A kouhai! New face!" She let out, approaching him as he instantly swiveled his head to retract his gaze from her.
Then again, it was already too late. The girl already noticed her. Sota wanted to run away, but that would be short of disrespectful to the girl who caught him stealing a glance.
"Kuu~ it feels good being a second year! Hi, kouhai~! You're new here right?" She greeted, slightly leaning on her shoulders as she held both her hands behind her.
Of course, there's always a girl thrown in the mix. Haven't you read my other works? ahahhaha
Once again, thank you so much for the support! I look forward to all of your comments!
