Chapter 15 - Music Producer Tae Jae-Hwa (2)

Next day after the Christmas, when Oh Min-Hee finished her training classes, she received a message in her mobile from music producer Tae Jae-Hwa saying that to come by tomorrow at 21:00 at Recording Room (XX) at the agency's building.

The following day, Oh Min-Hee followed her schedule as usual. She did not tell anyone and not even her roommate Jess that she is going to meet music producer Tae Jae-Hwa for the job knowing his circulating rumors. She knew what she was doing was wrong and it was right to inform someone of her location at the said time. But she had to find a connection to the shady side of K-POP industry and the only lead she found at this agency was about music producer Tae Jae-Hwa and she would do anything to be on good books of the shady music director so that he would introduce her to that side which is unknown. She was sure that her brother was involved with the shady side of K-POP and to get the information, Oh Min-Hee had to be involved there as well.

When her classes in the schedule was done, Oh Min-Hee headed straight towards her dorm. After taking a shower, she changed into a white top, black pants and a red hoodie. She went to the recording room that he described in the message. She knocked on the door and waited for a reply. Then she heard a male voice saying.

"Come in."

Oh Min-Hee readied herself and then entered the recording room, She saw a bespectacled man with a Hawaiian shirt and white pants who's hair was curly hair. He was sitting on the chair adjusting the recording device. He then turned towards me and greeted.

"Hello, you must be Oh Min-Hee, the one who responded for my job offering."

Then without further ado, he gave a sheet full of lyrics to Oh Min-Hee and gestured her to enter the live room. The recording room was divided into two sections, one was the the control room where the music producer stays and and controls the machine to produce wonderful music and the other one is the live room which is an isolated noice cancelling room where the singer sings in his or her microphone. Oh Min-Hee headed inside the the live room and started singing the song with her headphones on in her natural voice when the music producer said to start after a few minutes.

She didn't know anything about the song or music because the music producer didn't give her any instructions and just told her to sing. She had to interpret the lyrics and the type of music which was going to played to her. But that few minutes gave her some time and contemplate on to how to sing the song.

Music producer Tae Jae-Hwa put on his headphones and started adjusting the music according to the vocals the trainee is singing. The trainee who was singing had a tone with a restricted nasality and her timbre leaned on the darker side. It meant that her soft pallet is down which means a little bit more tends to came from the nose but it wasn't effecting her ability to sing with intonations. The timbre of the sound coming through was a little bit nasalized but the only reason he was thinking about the soft pallet was because it vowel is getting stuck a little but that was not affecting how the sound was actually coming to his ears. The trainee was still singing on time and in tune but the trainee still had a weird timbre that was not usually found among idol trainees. The trainee ended the song when the music producer was still adjusting and self introspecting the same time.

Oh Min-Hee was standing there for further instructions when the music in her headphone ended but she could see that the music producer was working and in his whole little world. After about ten minutes he called Oh Min-Hee to the control room.

Oh Min-Hee left the headset she was wearing in the live room and came to the the control room. The music producer gave her a headset which was connected to the system and told her to listen.

Oh Min-Hee had put on the headset and listened to the song that was playing. At first, when the music started playing it felt a little different than the one which she was singing to but when her voice met the music and the background instruments, it was a surreal felling for her. It was because she never knew that it would sound so different and unique than what she imagined. After the song ended she put down the headphone and stayed silent for a while.

The music producer who was not aware of the atmosphere broke the silence.

"You sang very well. Without any sort of instructions, you managed to sing the lyrics rather well with the unknown music."

Oh Min-Hee thanked the music director for the compliment. The the music director continued saying.

"But putting the work aside, I want to know a very importing thing which answered only to my satisfaction will we be able to continue to work."

Without giving any time to Oh Min-Hee to formulate a reply, he questioned.

"Why did you come to me?"
