Diya stared at the marriage certificate in her hand. She's married. One of her biggest nightmares had come true. But when she looked up, she saw her husband coming towards her; holding two ice creams in one hand and the marriage certificate in one. 'Maybe, just maybe, this could work out and all my other nightmares would just stay as nightmares.'.
Ajay sat beside her on the bench and handed her the vanilla-flavored ice cream she had asked for. "Thank you.". They ate their ice creams in silence.
"Thank you once again. I owe you a lot. As for this marriage, this isn't permanent. We can get a divorce once everything's settled within my family. But... will your family members be fine with this?" Diya looked at Ajay waiting for his reply.
"My brother won't make a big deal out of this .". She waited for him to continue but was confused when he didn't. Looking at her expression, Ajay said, "My mother passed away when I was 7 and my father committed suicide before my 18th birthday.".
Although Diya was shocked by the information, she concealed her expression and said, " I'm sorry.". Ajay smiled at her. "It's fine and let's not talk about divorce on our first day of being married.".
"You're right. *Sigh* I need to go back to the hospital now. My sisters are alone there." Diya said rising from the bench only to get stopped by Ajay.
"Miss. Diya, when are you moving in?". "Wh-what?" she only then fully understood the situation she was in.
Ajay smiled; seeing her flushed face. "How about tomorrow morning?".
'You're married now Diya, so it's totally normal to move in with your husband. Yes. He helped you big time so let's not complicate things for him.'. Diya faced him with determination after successfully convincing herself, "Sure. Tomorrow morning then. By the way, I need to stop by somewhere before going back to the hospital. So I'll hail a taxi. You don't need to trouble yourself anymore.".
"Driving one's wife is not something that should trouble the husband. I'll drop you off." saying that Ajay advanced towards his car. Unfortunately, he missed the way Diya started to blush after hearing what he just said.
Diya cupped her cheeks and took a deep breath. 'Get a hold of yourself, Diya.'.
Diya unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to Ajay after reaching the hospital. Just as she was going to thank him, he shook her head at her. Diya laughed; nodding her head. "Go back safely and don't forget to send me your house location.".
"Send me yours too. Just in case." Diya nodded at him. "Okay, bye then. Oh!". She turned to him; remembering something. "I'm your wife now. You don't need to call me 'Miss. Diya' anymore." she exited the car without waiting for his response; waving at him for a last time before rushing into the hospital.
This time, it was Diya who missed seeing Ajay's blushing face. Ajay had a big smile on his face. "She's my wife now." He shook his head at himself and drove away from there.
