Chapter-12 Promise to get Stronger

Max was astonished to know that the death of this many people had built up a Death Energy here. And now the system was asking him to use this energy to convert them to Exp to get stronger. He was thinking about absorbing the energy at first but dropped the idea after thinking about the sacrifice that these people here had made. He didn't feel right using the energy that has been generated here cause of their death. He refused to take the energy to gain some Exp. from this.

And for the second thing that the system was showing to him had made his doubts clear cause the system was telling him that there was someone behind this attack and now it had come up as a quest to the Max. He was thinking about who might be the person that can send a legendary tier beast to attack here. He can only dream about finding the person behind it cause he knew how weak he was now.

Max realized that he should be looking for anyone who might have survived and started looking around the dead bodies to find at least one person alive, so he can feel somewhat useful in this situation. While Max was looking around to find any survivors, Lucas was getting close to the castle with Donny and Ron behind him.

After continuously looking for an hour, he wasn't able to find anyone alive, everyone was dead. When he didn't find anyone alive here, he decided to go back to the village but before he can take a step, he heard some footsteps coming from behind him and turn around to see.

When Max saw whose footsteps, these were, his eyes got teary cause he had thought that maybe Lucas also had died somewhere inside the castle or here in the field. Lucas was the only person here that he had spent most of his time with, from the time he had been summoned here. He had forgotten that Lucas had gone out for some sort of task in the afternoon. And now seeing Lucas had made him feel at ease, and all of the emotions that he was holding up after going through this ordeal and seeing this many dead peoples were showing up now. Max couldn't help but start to cry while looking at Lucas.

Seeing him cry Lucas realized that, the person that everyone was calling a hero was just a kid that had been summoned to a different world and was forced to become the hero for them. "It hadn't even been two days from when he was summoned and he had to see this many people die in a single night. I just hope that this night won't haunt him forever" Lucas thought while walking toward the Max and embracing him with his right arm while covering his eyes with the other arm.

"Don't cry kid it was not your fault. You were not ready to fight this kind of thing yet. It was their job to protect the people even at the cost of their life, so don't think that you are the cause of their death. I am happy that you have survived today" Lucas comforted Max while holding back his anger towards the beast that had massacred everyone here.

Max tried to stop his crying while still in Lucas's hold, while Lucas was comforting Max, the other two Donny and Ron were looking around for any traces that the beast had left but they couldn't find anything useful other than the ice that the beast had left behind. After not finding anything useful they started preparing to bury the bodies of guards.

"Lucas I want to tell you something, yesterday I received this" Max said and pulled out the note from his pocket and handed over it to Lucas. When Lucas saw the note, he was surprised that someone will send this to the Max and thought who will be able to enter the castle undetected. There were not a lot of strong people in the castle but the old man who had fought the beast earlier was an advance magician and he had installed a detection spell everywhere around the castle to find out if anyone tries to sneak into the castle.

Now, most of the people here had died only leaving Lucas, Donny, Ron, and Max the only ones that were currently present in the castle. Also, some guards that had gone to the villages to escort the people there to another kingdom had survived this. "We have to be careful in the future from this person who had sent you this note, he can enter the castle without being noticed by the detection spell. We should head to somewhere else to keep you safe Max." Lucas said while he was concerned about Max safety.

Suddenly a thought struck Lucas and he let go of Max, while he started looking around the field to find someone specific. But no matter where he looked, he couldn't find him, after looking around the whole field he come in front of Max. "Did the king also take part in the fight, Max?" Lucas asked in a serious tone while his face was showing a mix of different emotions- sadness, anger, and loss of a friend.

"I don't know, I only had heard from a guard that the king had ordered to escort the villagers to another kingdom and I didn't see him going with guards to the village," Max said. Hearing this Confirmed Lucas thought that had come up some minutes ago. "So today, he had finally met his end, I never thought that you will be gone just like this. I pray that your soul may rest in peace my friend" Lucas prayed in his mind for his friend and the king of Quewilire.

Lucas looked in the sky staring at the moon that had come up now, today was the day when people of this kingdom lost their king, families who lost their sons, and brothers who were protecting them from the beast while fighting it. It was a dreadful day for the people of this kingdom.

Max while looking at the bodies of the deceased clenched his fists and swear to God that he will get strong enough that no one ever will have to die in his presence. He now knows that the system will help him in his quest of getting the power to kill all of the beasts. Until yesterday Max had no hope of surviving this world but now, he knows what he had to do. This was a promise that Max had made to himself tonight.
