The next morning
Roxanne abruptly sat up in her bed, her heart pounding rapidly against her ribcage, she struggled to properly breathe hiccupping and gasping for air. Her face was pale as beads of sweat trickled down from her forehead down her face. She raised her shaky hand and ran it through her messy hair and squeezed her eyes shut. Her lips wobbled and trembled as tears pooled behind her eyelid.
This was the first time in two days she was going to have a nightmare about the past ever since she had returned back to the past. The nightmare she had was about the same thing that happened to her on the night she died. No matter how she tried to brush away the haunting past, the pain would always catch up. Her determination to take revenge was just not enough to erase the pain she was going through, it wasn't enough to clear up these haunting memories.
Soon, droplets of salty tears fell from her eyes. She wished it was just an ordinary nightmare and not a memory from the past, her heart ached with the painful memories of her past life. She was utterly humiliated and embarrassed, having to witness the betrayal of her finance and her step sister. Her heart, pride and dignity was shredded and thorns into pieces, stomped on and tossed into the fire to burn into ashes like trash.
Roxanne still remembered the pain of watching the man who claimed to be love of her life betraying her with her step sister. She had stood by his side for four years wasting her youth futilely chasing after a man who never spared her a glance . No matter how she tried so hard to mask her emotion about what happened the pain still bore deeply into her, slowly eating her out.
Those five years she spent with Bruce, she thought she was in love, whenever Bruce was too tired from working, she offered to take over his position temporarily in his company and worked body to the limit. She helped him out whenever he was facing troubles, she did everything in her power she couldn to support him thinking he loved her. But all she got from him was his betrayal and ripping her off her properties she inherited.
"I thought I could get over it? It hurts even though I tried not to think about it." Roxanne mumbled silently as she placed her hand on chest.
Roxanne swore to forget about the pain she received and sorely focus on her revenge, but having nightmares like this one she had just experienced was like a painful reminder about the hurtful past that would haunt her forever.
Because Roxanne was too preoccupied in her thought she didn't realize the knocking on her room door. After a few seconds of the knocking sound, the door finally opened revealing a maid who walked into the room.
The maid had been knocking on the door for the past few minutes but when she got no response she decided to enter the room to check on Roxanne, the maid thought that Roxanne was still asleep so she decided to wake her up and tell her that breakfast was already prepared downstairs.
But she was surprised when she entered the room and saw Roxanne was already awake and was sitting on the bed in daze. "Good morning, Young miss." The maid greeted Roxanne with a slight bow.
Roxanne jolted out of her trance when she heard a voice in the room. Turning to the direction of the voice, she saw that it was a maid but she was surprised that she didn't know how and when the maid entered the room without her knowing.
Sensing that Roxanne wasn't aware when she entered the room, the maid quickly explained. "I was knocking on the door but it seemed like Young Miss didn't hear, so I decided to enter because I was worried about young Miss and I also thought you were still asleep. I apologize if I disturbed you, young miss." The maid said with another slight bow.
Hearing the maid's explanation and her apologizing, Roxanne waved her hand, the maid must have misunderstood her. After all, she was the one at fault, because she was too caught up in her thoughts she wasn't able to hear the knock on the door.
"It's okay, I just woke up not quite long." She said,
"Thank you, Young miss. Then I shall go ahead and do my duties here. Will Young Miss want me to prepare your bath for you?" The maid asked.
Roxanne didn't reply immediately when she heard the maid. She wasn't used to allowing the maids to prepare her bath, even in her past life she forbade the maids to do anything for her except arranging the room and cleaning the bathroom after she's done She would have refused the maid offer but right now she was too weak to prepare her bath by herself.
"Yes, you can go ahead." Roxanne finally replied.
The maid bowed and quickly entered the bathroom to prepare the bath just like was ordered to. Roxanne sighed after the maid and rubbed her temple gently, she still couldn't get rid of that dreadful feeling she got from the nightmare she just had.
Roxanne removed the blanket from her body and got up from the bed and walked towards the dressing table. She nearly screamed when she got to the dressing table and saw how messy she looked in the mirror. Her hair was scattered and tangled on her head, although she was expecting to look messy based on how many times she ran her hand through her hair but she wasn't expecting to look this messy.
While Roxanne was busy staring at her appearance, the maid walked out of the bathroom. "Miss, the bathroom is ready. I will arrange the room while you have your bath." The maid informed Roxanne.
"Okay." Roxanne simply replied as she walked towards the bathroom.
Few minutes later, Roxanne stepped out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe and a towel wrapped around her head. Roxanne was shocked to see the maid still standing in the room. 'What is she still doing here?' Roxanne thought that the maid would have left the room after arranging the room.
"Why are you still here?" Roxanne couldn't help but question.
"I thought you might still need something else." The maid replied sharply.
"Oh, I don't. I must have forgotten to tell you that you can leave when you're done." Roxanne said to the maid. Her eyes caught sight of a brown shopping bag that was placed on the bed.
Roxanne looked at the maid, she was sure that there was no sort of shopping bag here before she left. "What is this?" She asked.
