The snake turned around, dropped down to my body, back in my lap and wanted to sneak away again. Panicked, I grabbed his head and lifted it up so that we were looking each other straight in the eyes. The white body twisted in my grip, but the snakes could not free itself from its hold. "You brat! Let me go at once! There will be consequences." I didn't follow his order, just stared at him. I didn't know what I was doing! But suddenly I felt so helpless, lost. And this snake seemed to be my only help out of this loneliness. He might be strange. A talking snake! But he was the only one who seemed to understand me. Though he spoke only in riddles I never understood anyway. Still, there was someone I could talk to. At last someone could understand me.
As if by remote control I wanted to force the animal to clarify me too. To be honest, my ignorance irritates me more than I thought. It irritated me so much that I did not even feel fear anymore. Not of this snake. I just wanted answers.
"I'll help you if you help me. Otherwise there is no deal! Now it's my turn to ask questions." I hissed.
The snake blinked at me, just couldn't believe what had happened. The tide was turning too fast. Now I had the upper hand, apparently.
" Help you, little girl, we have a contract and you have to honor it."
"Where are the papers? Where did I sign? I can't remember any contract!"
"Ha! What papers! What a signature! The heart in your chest is proof enough of our agreement!"
I narrowed my eyes, his words again made no sense to me. " Pardon?"
"The heart in your chest is mine!"
"Then where is mine?"
"I ate that."
"What! You ate my heart!" he smiled pleased with himself.
"Don't be ridiculous! How can you eat my heart without me dying!" I couldn't believe my ears. Bullshit! What the fuck was that thing talking about?
" I said. We have a contract!"
"Does that mean if I made a contract that I wouldn't die if you ate my heart! Are you stupid!?"
" Naturally!" The snake replies calmly.
Now it was my turn to stare at him with my mouth open. I still don't understand what the one had to do with the other. But apparently there was a meaning behind his words which I did not understand. I suddenly felt so tired.
"I liked you better before, when you weren't so... " He looked at me with disgust.
"Well, your mind still seems to be in a kind of deep sleep! From now on, you should let me do the thinking."
I laughed bitterly. "Let you do the thinking?! There's no such thing. Did you know there's a famous story where a woman trusted a snake and left the thinking to it. That didn't end well for her! Very badly indeed." I shook my head. " Let's start with this... You might as well explain everything to me. Like, - Who the hell am I?"
"You are Lyldu. The night breeze." He said proudly. "and the partner I have chosen!"
I nodded my head but still didn't get what he meant by that. But keep it that way, as I was almost sure that if I kept asking questions, he would answer me with more nonsense.
"All right I am Lyldu. And who are you?"
"I'm Despiter. Lord of heaven and your master."
I could almost feel my eyes popping out.
"My master! I thought in a contract, both partners were equal! And besides, I feel a bit ridiculous now calling a snake my master."
"You little brat! Don't you know my true nature!" His voice sounded like thunder, but I didn't let it bother me. After all, he was just a snake that I held tightly in my grasp."So you're just a snake asking for my help." I smiled contentedly down at the snake.
"I've already explained. I couldn't find a better body!"
I shrugged my shoulders. Then, I focused on my goal again. "Whatever, the world is, explain to me what it is."So you're just a snake asking for my help." I smiled contentedly down at the snake.
"I've already explained. I couldn't find a better body!"
I shrugged my shoulders. Then, I focused on my goal again. " Whatever, tell me about this world. Explain the things I need to know to survive."
