Explain?

He paused, his deep golden eyes resting on me. "You have the gift of seeing the world in a different way."

I stared at him in amazement. His words made no sense to me.

"You may have forgotten. ...but it does not hide who you really are." His tail wagged back and forth and something in his gaze changed and became scornful.

I was trembling. "E... Tell me." The words came over my lips with difficulty. But suddenly there was this curiosity. Although my fear had taken hold of me, I could not suppress this impulse.

"Explain?" His voice sounded sharp, like a dangerous knife cutting through the air.

I nodded, hurriedly, and just kept staring at him. Someone had to explain something to me so I could understand what was happening. It was the only way. I felt like someone had flipped a switch in my brain. Suddenly my curiosity seized power to rule over my thoughts, and my fear lost power over her throne.

I leaned on my elbows. The white body of the snake slid into my lap. He hissed, his head rose high while his eyes stared at me wildly. "So tedious!" He looked skeptical, swinging his head to the side to look out the window. The dark clouds had given way to white cotton balls. The azure sky was drenched in a white glistening light.

"What do you see?" He suddenly asked me.

"You?"

He laughed, "Yes," He curled up my little arm, up to my shoulder. "You can see me. In my long life, only two beings could ever look at me... without their bodies bursting into flames. ...just you and an old friend."

I blinked at him in amazement.

"You are the only one who can help me."

Suddenly, I felt very upset. Couldn't draw the right conclusions from this conversation because I just didn't understand where he was going. What was his goal? What did he expect from me?

From his eyes he watched me, seemed to be fighting something in his head, struggling with himself.

"What do I have to help you with?" It slipped out of my mouth. My curiosity had made my tongue irresponsible. I knew I should be careful. He was only a snake, of course. But his presence radiated pure danger.

But all this seemed forgotten, for a long time I had felt this deep connection, as if I had found something important again which I thought I had lost.

He turned around, crawled past my shoulder, over my shoulder blade onto my other shoulder. "But... In this state you cannot help me." His tone of voice sounded dismissive, as if he were looking at something disgusting.

"What sort of state?" I blinked, completely disarmed.

"How can you possibly understand me! You have no idea what I am talking about."

"Then explain it to me."

"Ha... How exhausting. You're almost like that childish facade of yours..." He leaned over. The tip of his nose was only a millimeter away from my ear.

"Your head is empty. There was only darkness left..." He began to speak.
