Forty Thieves

I was running away from them. My baby was crying in my arms as I tried to shush him. The biting cold was harsh my already thin frame. My baby’s lips started turning white. I glanced at how my baby boy stopped crying. I continued running until the town was far behind us and all I could see in front of us were just a field of thick snow. My baby’s lips turned blue. “Oh Lord, please don’t let anything happen to him,” I prayed to God and caught sight of an old church up the hill to the left of the snow-covered path. “Hang on there, baby, we are almost there,” I whispered to him. The falling snow was heavier as the minutes ticked by. Soon we were caught in a blizzard. With much difficulty we managed to reach the old church. My heart sank as I saw that it was a dilapidated and abandoned church. It only meant one thing, no warm fire to save my baby. I went inside anyway as that was the only shelter available for miles on end. There was no fire wood by the fire place. No blankets, no rugs or anything that I could use to warm us up. All my baby had was me. I cuddled him closer. I was losing my baby. “No, God! Lord if you can hear my prayer I am at your House right now please let my baby live! You can take my live, please let my baby live!!! Please Lord I beg you,” I kept repeating my prayer believing if I prayer hard enough God will really grant my wish and let me trade my life for my baby’s life. I did not know how long I prayed. When I finally checked on my son he was cold and dead. God did not help us. My prayers went unanswered. I wished the Earth would just open up and swallow me up as I lost the will to live on. I had lost my son, what else was there for me to live for? My last thoughts before I lost consciousness was, “God failed me.” ******************************** This incarnation: Theeya is the direct descendant of one of the original Forty Thieves. Flight of the Eagles

I felt the wind in my face as my hair was swept away from my eyes. I was flying!!! I was cautious as I peered through my half opened eyes because I have a thing for heights, or rather I don't fancy heights.

I knew it was a dream. Or at least a past life memory. I took a look at my surrounding and saw that we were surrounded by eagles. These majestic creatures were soaring and dancing in the sky it was breathtaking.

"Cassandra, look up at the rainbow," a voice came, familiar yet strange to my ears.

I turned my head around and looked up.

There in front of me was a magnificent spread just bursting and shining bright light formed the most beautiful arch of a blend of the spectrum of colours of the rainbow that my jaw just dropped in awe.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" Boomed the voice again.

I would have thought that was the voice of God and I was in heaven with the most beautiful sight in front of me.

I soaked in the beauty right before my very own eyes and unknowingly a tear just fell on my cheeks and another and before I knew it I was a sobbing mess.

My hands were free as I was being carried like a baby by a stork in a fishing-net-like bundle by him.

I just realised I had not truly seen him and how he looked like in this lifetime that we were supposed to be together and in love.

Suddenly I felt a familiar feeling of shyness overpowering me and I felt my ears turned hot, I must be blushing so hard and looked as red as the tomatoes right now.

I could not bring myself to look up higher to catch a glimpse of him.

"What is wrong with me? I am flying with him so I must trust him a lot and yet I am abashed to even catch a peek at him? It doesn't make sense." I shook my head as my blush deepened further and my face felt even hotter and the heat burned my ears.

I distracted myself with the beautiful scenery that lay beneath us after we left the rainbow.

After awhile I relaxed and got used to the momentum of being suspended on the sky.

We descended from the sky and as we lost altitude I could actually feel my ears popped.

Down below us was a snowy mountain. As we flew closer, I saw that it wasn't snow by cotton. Who planted cotton right at the top of the mountain?

When we gently landed, it took me awhile to get my bearing and to get back on my feet. Strong arms held my back as I stumbled on my feet.

My heart beat faster as I anticipated the face to face meeting with him.

"What came over me?" I was thinking out loud.

I could hear his breath on my right ear as he whispered, "Cassandra, welcome home."

"Zaccheus, where are we?" I asked after I managed to find back my voice.

My mouth was agape at the beautiful sight in front of me.

"Welcome to Heaven on Earth. This is our home. This is our territory. I am a God and you are my Goddess," as he said that he gently turned me around and I finally saw his face.

My eyes could not believe what a fine specimen of a man who stood before me.

"Sun kissed golden skin that is as smooth as silken tofu, that was random, to think of tofu to eat at this moment," I shook off my racy thoughts.

"You are glowing!!! There's actually a halo around you. You are beautiful! I mean handsome beautiful!" I sighed out loud.

"You should see how YOU look like, my love," he smiled knowingly as he led me by my hand to the nearest glade.

"Go on, see your reflection," he prodded.

I took a few steps forward and saw a beautiful woman I could not recognise staring back at me, she looked so familiar yet she was such a stranger to me.

"I am a goddess," I gasped in disbelief.

"Yes, you are, my love," he came from behind and appeared on the reflection with me.

"How? How did the Forty Thieves produced a God and a Goddess? This doesn't make sense. Are you manipulating my imagination and making all this up as an illusion to fill up my dream to convince me of whatever false information you fed me all along?" Doubts started creeping into my mind again.

"You asked for a lifetime where the two of us were together and in love so this was it. You did not specify to link it to the Forty Thieves. That happened much later. Would you like to go there now?" his golden eyes looked earnestly at me.

I shook my head.

"This is already too much for me to take in. Show me around first. Since we are already here anyway," curiosity got the better of me.

"Your wish is my command, my love, let us spend some time in our Heaven," the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled made me blush hopelessly again.

"Oh boy, what did I sign up for this time?" I thought inwardly.

"What powers do we have? I mean you said you are a God and I am a Goddess," I asked as we walked or rather "floated" above the cottons which I now saw were actually clouds.

"Plenty. We can create and destroy and recreate. We control all the elements and energy from the Universe. We are pretty powerful. We also have the responsibility to watch over the lives of the people under our territory. So this human concept of a single God is actually limited to a certain territory. There are many Gods that control different territories," he stated as if it was a walk in the park everyday to explain how a God and Goddess went about their day.

"Then when did you sell your soul to the Devil?" I just had to ask.

"When Jeff snatched you away from me," his fists were squeezed so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

"You are mine, Cassandra, you are always mine," his golden eyes suddenly turned fiery red and I felt my heart skipped a beat not in a good way, like it was the end of the beautiful preview of Heaven on Earth.

All of a sudden we were twirled around in the air as the entire mountain of heaven as he called it collapsed under our feet.

He caught me by the waist with his hands and white wings spread from his back as he carried us to safety. What stood the mountain just seconds ago was now a rubble of stones and debris.

"That's one of our powers. Reducing a mighty mountain to a rubble. Let's get out of here, shall we? I want you to meet someone very important here," he said calmly. And before I could even ask who it was, he picked up his speed and I screamed out loud as we flew at the speed of light to wherever this important person was.
