How will the two fare in this cruel 'dog eat dog' world? Will they reach the pinnacle they hope to see? Or will they fall helplessly, like countless others that had taken that road before them? Chapter 13

Isla looked through the storage ring while Sila kept alert. When they took it the ring still had many items in it, but the most useful in this situation were the talismans. Unfortunately there were no more teleportation talismans, however there were a numerous amount of regular elemental ones.

Isla took out a few lightning talismans, specifically because the lightning type had the ability to chain through living targets. She didn't know the efficacy of the talismans in their hands, but she wouldn't hold her breath believing it could deal with the entire horde, but she hoped that they could take out the weaker goblins, so she and Sila could focus on getting rid of the higher evolved goblins.

After throwing out the talismans the twins hugged the walls tightly, trying to limit how much of their bodies were showing, just in case the lightning redirected towards them. However luck seemed to be on their side, only the sounds of harsh shrieks and screams echoing throughout the large cavernous space.

The two wouldn't let go of the momentum and when the sound of crackling started to fizzle out, they rushed in.

Shockingly when Isla and Sila entered into the cavern, charred corpses filled their eyes, including the warrior class that were heavily armoured.

Astonishment filled their eyes but they focused on the task at hand. Some of the goblins on the edge had managed to survive the lightning onslaught, and also two of the mages that were separated from the groups.

The goblins hadn't yet understood their situation. Most were running around and shrieking. The twins went straight for the mages. Perhaps due to their evolution, the mages were able to calm themselves before reciting a spell in their unintelligible language.

Spikes made of earth sprung forth trying to stab through their legs, and rock walls intending to trap them rose up. But the twins felt that these were nothing compared to the wind magician they had faced. The goblin mages were much slower and the spells seemed to only be directional, not on the level of tracking them.

Isla and Sila split and rushed towards the two mages. No barriers, no defensive items. Only the fear in their eyes as the twins slashed towards them.

After getting rid of the strongest, the rest were of little trouble. When they had finished killing off the last goblin and the cavern returned to silence, they kept an ear out for any sounds coming towards them, but weirdly they heard nothing.

They didn't think this was it. The twins hadn't seen a leader anywhere. So they chose to continue forward while they still had ample energy, intending to come back  to sort through the corpses.

"Which way should we take?" Isla asked, her voice kept low, but her eyes were glued on one of the paths.

Sila followed her sisters gaze to look at the paths ahead, some were obviously dug out by goblins, but one had the same style as the cavern. She looked at Isla with a deadpan expression, "I wonder which one you want to follow, Isla".

Isla rubbed her nose trying to cover the blush on her cheeks. She was a little obvious, quickly saying, "H-how about the big one?"

Sila very rarely saw her always prepared sister so flustered, she took the opportunity to agree, not wanting Isla to get angry from embarrassment, "Okay let's check it out, sister".

The two followed the large path. This was less like a tunnel and more like a hallway. However it continued on seeming to be endless. It wasn't until the two started doubting their choice that they finally saw a large stone door in the distance.

When they finally reached the door they saw countless goblin warriors and mages dead in front of it. The door was slightly ajar, and the sounds of fighting could be heard further inside.

Isla and Sila snuck to the door and peered in. What they saw was a large group of evolved goblins, one standing taller than all the rest, attacking a mechanical giant.

The giant stood half the height of the cavern, steam pouring out of its body every movement it made. It's armour a piercingly bright gold, but the joints seemed to be made of something else, showing corrosion and rust. The goblin group was busy attacking, showing a much stronger ability than the goblins they had just dealt with.

Isla and Sila had no idea why the elite goblins wanted to attack this golden giant, but from the high cavern walls to the intricate mechanical construct, they guessed that this was probably an abandoned dwarf settlement.

The goblins continued to attack the giant without fear of death. The twins didn't know why they were so desperate but they weren't going to intervene in it. No matter which side won, as long as they were damaged to the greatest extent, Isla and Sila would be the overall winners.

The battle was brutal. It lasted for hours. The goblins attacked the giants corroded joints trying to immobilise it, while the giant swung its less than dexterous limbs. It would sporadically shoot out needles to attack the mages who stayed behind, usually after releasing a cloud of steam to cover its intentions.

After the goblins finally took down the mechanical giant, their numbers had fallen to six, all were seriously injured. The eviscerated corpses of dozens of warriors and mages spread out around these pitiful few.

The goblin king was about to order what was left of the group to rest for a while before searching the room, when a knife pierced through his back.

He didn't even have the energy to turn around before he fell lifeless, his body the size of a normal man hit the ground, setting off the beginning of another fight for the already exhausted goblins.

With little energy left to fight, the last of the goblins fell under the daggers of the twins. Resentment filled the faces of those last few who thought they had finally achieved victory.

However Isla and Sila wouldn't care about their grievances. They began to collect their rewards. The silver they'd get for a goblin king, as well as mages and warriors was a few times more than a regular one. It wasn't a huge increase, but with the number of each they could earn a decent amount.
