Chapter 12

I wonder what got into me. Why did I say yes to the interview when Ed called me.

Maybe I wanted some changes in my life or just because I wanted to stay back in Hong Kong a little bit more. On the bright side I will be getting a salary.

After walking around a little bit more, I decide to call it a day.

Jennifer left me a message awhile ago telling me that she and Jeff will be late. They will be attending the backstage after ceremony party.

She will be meeting her favorite idols tonight in person. I smile to myself thinking how happy and excited she will be.

"Better get an early sleep tonight," I said aloud to myself after I finished bathing.

I hit the pillow after I watching the news.

The next morning.....

I wake up early today. There is a text message on my phone.

It was from Jennifer. She wanted to tell me that she and Jeff will be sleeping in late today.

The text was sent at six o'clock in the morning. They must have partied the whole night.

I guess I will be on my own again.

I plan to explore more of Hong Kong today after the interview.

I wash up and head to the buffet hall for my breakfast.

It is nearly ten o'clock when I finish with my breakfast. I head straight to the lobby.

A man in a black suit is sitting on one of the sofa near the entrance. He looks like he is in his late thirties.

I approach the man and asked, "Hi. Are you Ed?"

"Yes, I am. You must be Tiffany," he replied.

"Yes, I am," I answered him.

"You look younger than I thought. Have you taken your breakfast?" he continued.

"Yes, I have," I replied and smiled at him.

"Let us begin then. I will be interviewing you today as my boss have to leave the country on short notice. Can you tell me a bit about yourself, please?" he said.

I smiled at him and began, "I am Tiffany Kim. I just graduated with a degree in Law and I passed my bar council examination. I am currently looking for a job in a law firm in the UK. I babysit for people on part time basis during my university years and I joined an au pair program a few years back which I helped to babysit two children for a prominent family in New York City for three months."

"I heard Jennifer told me that you were born in Hong Kong. Is it true? Your sir name shows that you are Korean," Ed asked.

"Yes, I was born in Hong Kong. I changed my surname after my mother remarried. Then I lived in Shenzhen with my stepfather until I was sent to England for my tertiary study," I explain to him.

"Ok, then there will be no problem for you to work in Hong Kong," Ed said.

"This is a temporary position right? Until you find a permanent nanny," I asked Ed.

"Yes, do not worry. I already notified all the nanny agencies. Now is the school holiday season. So a lot of nanny are fully booked," Ed explain.

"What would be the job scope like? How many children are there?" I asked.

"There is only one child. She is 4 years old. Currently she is attending pre-school. If you are hired, you will be expected to bring her to school and back. After that, you will have to help her with her school work and tutor her. You will have to keep her company and occupied her with activities daily. You will be required to live in together with her. Your room will be inter-connected to hers," Ed explained.

"That means I have to be at her side 24-7 for seven days a week?" I asked.

"Yes," Ed answered.

"How about her parents? Will they be around to supervise?" I asked further.

"Both her parents passed away half a year ago in an accident. Currently her guardian is her uncle. He is a very busy man, so he is seldom around. She lives with her nanny and a staff of servants," Ed explained.

"But how could you just leave a child with her nanny and a staff of servants. This is so irresponsible of her uncle. A child needs loves and cares from her love ones. After such a terrible tragedy her uncle should pay even more attention to her. He should not leave her alone like this," I got quite angry when I heard what Ed told me.

"He must be some kind of cold-hearted monster," I blurted out before I could stop myself.

"He is trying his best to adjust his life to this new situation. Hope you understand. He is not cold blooded or a monster. His life was also turned up-side down and he haven't even have the time to properly grief the passing of his beloved sister. You will know once you meet him," Ed explained patiently.

"Sorry, I don't mean to insult him," I said apologetically.

Ed smiles at me and nods his head understandingly.

"Everything will be taken care of for you; lodging and food will be provided. The chefs and servants will attend to your needs. There will also be a driver to bring you and our young miss around. So you need not worry about anything," Ed added.

"Can you start immediately if you are hired?" Ed asked.

"I think that would not be a problem," I answered.

"Alright then. I will discuss with my boss later on today and get back to you by tonight," reply Ed while standing up.

I stand up too.

We shake hands and he said," I will be in contact. Enjoy your day."

"Thank you," I replied.
