86: Star Child: A Keepers Past XII

"This is an evacuation order! There has been a containment breach at the Spirit techno-splicing factory and a evacuation order has been ordered for the greater St. Louis area. I repeat this is a Evacuation order…." A voice blared over the alarm system throughout the town.

"About time the alarm went off!" I griped as the aivard flew towards my grandparents house at the edge of town.

I had followed Logan and his family for a few minutes to make sure they were safe; which I only did because I promised that woman; then made the aivard fly towards towards my parents house.

I soon saw the path leading to my grandparent's house in the woods, from what I could see the thrads hadn't made it that far yet. The clearing around their house soon came into view and I saw my grandma Lulu standing on the porch with a rifle in hand.

"Grandma Lulu!" I yelled from the aivard's back and waved my arm over my head at her. She looked up at me with a confused look on her face. I pointed at the ground in font of the porch and the aivard swooped down for a landing. He landed a lot smoother this time and as I hoped off his back the aivard spun around and looked at me with puppy dog eyes.

"Good job boy." I said petting his head then turned to face my grandma on the porch.

"Starlight? What's going on?" Grandma Lulu asked as I walked up the stairs to her.

"There was a containment breach at the factory and next thing I know there are hundreds of thrads pouring in over the wall just attacking everyone and everything. The factory is completely destroyed." I explained.

"Gods above!" Grandma Luna gasped tjen pulled me into a tight hug. "Is your mom and dad okay.

"Yeah, they managed to get to safety through a tunnel and said they were going to head to that military base nearby." I replied.

"While I'm glad you're alright Chase, what are you doing here and with those evos?" Grandma Lulu asked pointing to the aivard and War crime

"Dad and a few of the people that escaped had me fly to town and warn the sheriff department." I said. Grandma Lulu's eyes grew wide.

"Your father had you do what?!" Grandma Lulu shouted. "Stars above! He knows what the sheriff and deputies would do if they ever caught you using your powers."

"It was a emergency…plus I was worried about you and Grandpa Seamus." I said. War crime jumped off my shoulder and ran over to the aivard and the two of them started growling at the woods.

Grandma Lulu grabbed her rifle aimed it at the woods in front of the house while I grabbed my Jakso and did the same. A thrad suddenly burst through the tree line and charged towards the house. But before it was able to take another step Grandma Lulu put a bullet between it's eyes and dropped it.

'Damn Grandma…' I thought as I looked over at Grandma Lulu. Grandpa Seamus limped out onto the porch with us. He'd broken his leg two weeks ago when he fell off the roof trying to fix a leak that he'd noticed during the rain storm last month. I knew it the cast was getting on his nerves since he was used to being able to jump to action and do whatever was needed around the house and now had to rely on Grandma Lulu to help him.

"What's going on? I heard a shot!" He demanded then froze mid-hobble when he saw me and my two evos. "Chase? What are you doing here?"

"Getting you two. Things are bad at the factory and we need to get out of town." I summed up.

"That's putting it lightly. Wait till I tell you what your son in law did!" Grandma Luna snapped.

"That's not important right now! I need to get you two out of here, it's not safe!" I exclaimed.

"What's going on?" Grandpa Seamus asked.

"Chase Said there was a breach at the factory. Lisa and Thomas are fine!" Grandma Lulu said quickly. Grandpa Seamus looked back over to the dead thrad that Grandma killed then back to me.

"There are more on the way, aren't there?" He asked. I nodded.

"Hundreds of them, maybe more." I said. Grandpa sighed then looked to Grandma. She was giving him a determined look.

"Don't worry Lulu'nala,, I'm not so hard headed that I'd try to defend the house against a swarm of hungry evos.

"You better not! I'm expecting another twenty years with you." Grandma Lulu said sternly. While her voice was harsh, the love in her gaze was soft and tender as she looked to her husband.

"Come on! I can have the two of you fly on the back of the aivard!" I said walking down the steps. Grandma helped Grandpa down the steps and frowned when wee reached the aivard who sat happily, waiting for orders with its tongue sticking out.

"Aivard? You named this evo aivard?" Grandma Lulu asked.

"No, it's its unofficial type name." I said then petted the aivard and then War crime where he sat on the ground next to the aivard. "I did name this one War crime though."

Grandma gave me a unimpressed look as I ordered the aivard to crouch down. Grandma and I helped Grandpa on to the aivards back then Grandma climbed up and seat behind him. She held her arm out to help me up but I shook my head.

"He struggled a little bit when he was carrying me and Louie earlier. I don't think he can handle three people." I said. Grandma Lulu scowled and started to get off.

"Then you ride him with your grandfather and get him to safety and come back for me." She said.

"Grandma no!" I snapped and pushed her back onto the aivard's back. "I'll be fine! I can run faster than you can and I can control evos if push comes to shove."

"Hush starlight! I'm not fleeing while my grandson faces danger! Our ancestors would course my soul!" Grandma Lulu growled.

"Fine…" I said then slapped the aivard on its butt. "Go now!"

The aivard reared back making grandpa and grandma hold onto the aivard so they didn't fall off. The aivard took off running down the path and leapt into the air flapping hard and soaring high above the ground.

"CHAAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEE!" Grandma Lulu roared as the aivard flew high above the ground.

"Head across the river and find my mom and dad and drop them off with them then come back for me and War crime! Well try making our way across the river too!" I yelled to the aivard. It let out a loud howl of conformation as it flew towards the river.

"Ha ha! Fuck a duck, that was smart!" Grandpa Seamus cackled as they flew away. I looked down at War crime and frowned.

"What are the chances that stunt us going to bite me in the ass later?"

Well first off I'd like to apologize for only releasing three chapters last week. My day Job had me work three 16 hour days back to back last week and I didn't finish the chapter I wanted. That's why this chapter is shorter than normal. Hopefully I'll have time this week to get my normal number of chapters out at the right length. All this extra time at work has given me plenty of ideas for the story though! You'll love the direction I plan to take the story!
