Resistance soldiers captured Maeko, tied her up with soft ropes to prevent her from getting hurt, and locked her in a soundproof booth. Everyone went back inside the bunker to restore the damage, it was a mess caused by those wandering invaders.
"Milo..." Zev pronounced getting used to the idea that they had taken his brother.
"Commander Kylen, what 's next?" Ronda asked, walking behind him.
"We need a rescue plan but first we have to save the survivors, we must move from the base," he turned, "but above all, for no reason let Ocean leave here."
Ronda was worried about her friend, they had sedated her and put her under surveillance in the laboratory, in addition to using another method to arrest her.
They sent Zev to repair some doors but instead of doing it he began to kick them hard, his annoyance was evident, he couldn't do anything to prevent his brother's kidnapping and all because he was aware of his feelings.
"Don't worry, he's with Evander and Barrett, they'll protect him," Luna said, who was screwing.
"I'm not so sure they're going to protect him, they must still be upset with him," he commented with a frown.
"They will," she said, holding his hand with the intention of calming him down.
"Luna…" he said, "don't you feel as if you were doing things that you would never do? As if someone forced you."
She looked down and shook her head.
"Stop flirting and do your job!" Ronda exclaimed with a commanding voice, "Luna, the commander wants to see you."
The blonde came out without making eye contact, she looked nervous as she held her arms with her hands giving herself a hug.
"Where is Ocean? We have to do something," he hastened to say.
"See you in two hours in my room and tell Luna to go," Ronda muttered to Zev, leaving him alone.
Luna was walking with goosebumps towards Kylen's office, she bit her lip before entering but faced him taking a different stance.
"Luna," he spoke dryly.
"What?" She crossed her arms.
Kylen was surprised, he never thought that she could act like that. He sighed and proceeded to speak again.
"Are you sure you saw a group of children?"
"Yes, I'm not a liar, I know what I saw," she answered firmly.
"I understand," he put his hand to his chin, "I don't mistrust you, it's just that the girl said something about the ether mother."
Kylen got up to look for the folders, asking Luna to come over to the desk so they could go through them together.
"Here," he pointed.
The folder he took was the one named 'The most beautiful woman', the information was about a being that has the power to create hallucinations or modify the reality of others, he feared that Luna had fallen for that effect.
"I've never heard anything like this, none of the reinforcements even mentioned anything about it, but when the girl said it," he remembered as he kept talking, "Ocean seemed to have been more annoyed than usual."
"Where is Ocean?"
"Sedated, I don't want her to do something stupid, I can't let her out now," he cleared his throat. "You can go, continue with your chores."
Luna ran away and returned to where Zev was, he told her about what Ronda had said, she seemed suspicious, which caused them intrigue. Before the two hours were up, Kylen talked to the soldiers and strictly forbade visiting Ocean but assured them that everything was fine with her.
"At night we will begin to transfer some survivors to another base," he concluded.
Those present nodded and went to finish their work, Luna and Zev deviated from the path towards Ronda's room trying to be very cautious. Upon entering, they found her hitting one of her windows with an iron stick, but it was difficult to break.
"Hey, what are you doing? We just repaired everything and you are destroying your window," Luna said, trying to stop her.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
Using more force she was able to break the glass.
"This will be enough", observed the stick, "the windows here use another type of glass, not like the common one."
"What did you want to see us for?" Zev asked.
"I heard that they took Milo, so I planned to take Ocean out of the laboratory and go to rescue them and before you say anything, I know that Kylen prohibited many things but Barret is there, I'm not going to wait," she pointed the stick towards the glass, "the commander doesn't have any plan but Ocean does, she's the leader's girlfriend for a reason, so will you help me?"
Luna and Zev looked at each other for a few seconds and after thinking about it a bit they agreed.
"Have you told anyone else?" Luna asked.
"Of course not, the others here are loyal to Kylen, he's like their god, of course they won't agree."
"And why did you choose us?"
"Because girl, with the traveler's theory I have a feeling that one of you two is," she looked at them out of the corner of her eye, "we've been in a lot of trouble and we always come out victorious, no one is that lucky…"
Nobody said anything. Zev swallowed and disassembled, while Ronda told them the plan to escape from the bunker, they would go through Ocean before eight and when the soldiers began to transfer the first group of survivors, they would leave through the front door.
They took cargo and weapons, changed their colorful clothes for dark ones and walked carefully until they reached the laboratory.
"What is the stick for?"
Ronda signaled to them and they entered the door with a sign for authorized personnel only, there they saw her, Ocean had just woken up from the sedative.
"Why did they do this to her?" Zev thought when he saw her.
The girl was in a kind of capsule filled with water, only with a respirator, as if she was an experiment.
"Kylen isn't stupid, he put her there so she couldn't use her fire, for that the stick, I'm going to break the glass of that capsule."
Ronda began to hit hard but taking care not to hurt Ocean while Luna guarded the entrance.
"Hurry up, the soldiers are already mobilizing people," Luna said, turning from one place to another.
One, two, three, the glass broke causing all the water to fall, Ronda and Zev held Ocean, who was feeling weak.
"Let's get the fuck out of here," Ocean said taking off her respirator.
They all ran to the other door, Zev was behind them covering them. They used the stick to force the handle and get out, once the objective was reached they fled without looking back even though they knew they would be discovered.
Being away for a long distance, they found some caves to take refuge, took out provisions and ate in silence for a little before continuing. Since no one said anything, Luna was the first to break the silence, making them remember the world as it was before the Community incident but it seemed that no one wanted to comment on it.
"What's beyond the Dawn?" Zev asked to keep the conversation going again.
"Eternal life," Ronda replied.
"It's a metaphor if what you are thinking is that there is death crossing its doors," Ocean said looking at her can of food, "the community has that name because of the northern lights, after the research center called Chikara there is an aurora borealis that divides the base of a city in perfect harmony, there is the heaven longed for by all…"
"Really?" he asked in astonishment.
"Yes, but ordinary people don't know it, they only theorize about the beyond the walls, in fact only secret groups like La Resistencia have knowledge of that city, even there it seems to be another dimension. The Community of the Dawn would never allow anyone to pass."
"The commander should discuss this information with the survivors, even after destroying the base they could take people to that place," Luna suggested drinking water from the bottle.
"Not everyone can cross the aurora, to begin with it is difficult to pass the sniper wall, and once they did tests sending a common soldier, when the light of the aurora borealis touched him, he completely disintegrated," Ocean said remembering that scene.
"You should tell us more about the Community," Zev said, smiling for the first time.
Ocean complained, rolling her eyes and grimacing.
"It's too much history for a night like this," she leaned her body against the wall of the cave.
She suggested resting that night since they were all exhausted from the afternoon fight and all the rebuilding they had to do, so sleeping would give them enough energy to continue.
