The next morning, I woke up before 6:30 and went to the playground to run with other young werewolves. I noticed that there were more patrols in the Pack, and everyone seemed more alert. It must have been because of the wolf attack last night that made everyone aware of the danger.
During our training, us young werewolves had to run ten kilometers every day and take combat classes. The adult werewolves trained in a different area. However, there was one exception – Eliana. She had a heart condition, so she didn't have to participate in any training activities.
After running ten miles, I was out of breath and sweaty. I took a sip of water and saw Wyatt approaching from a distance.
"Oh my goodness! It's Wyatt Parker!" one of the girls next to me exclaimed. "He's coming! He's so handsome!"
The other girls cheered and started fixing their appearance. The other boys scoffed.
I furrowed my brow and had a question in my mind. Why was it Wyatt Parker who showed up today instead of Simon, who usually trained us?
Wyatt Parker stood in front of us with a serious expression.
"Hello, kids. In today's training session, as your combat teacher, I will teach you close-quarter combat techniques."
As soon as he said that, I felt the excitement in the air vanish. It was clear that nobody wanted to be "tortured" by Wyatt. But I felt differently. I had always heard that Wyatt Parker was really skilled in close-quarter combat, and I was sure I could learn a lot from him.
"Now that you've warmed up, let's get started," Wyatt said simply. Standing in the middle, he asked, "Can someone demonstrate what you've learned from Simon? Any volunteers?"
Everyone fell silent. Nobody dared to step forward, not even the usually mischievous boys.
Wyatt scoffed. "Are the future warriors of the Rouge Moon Pack really this cowardly? Is that what Simon taught you to do when facing an enemy?"
"I'll do it!" I shouted.
Wyatt gave me a meaningful look and nodded.
I walked up to him and attacked before he could say anything.
I executed a series of punches and kicks with speed and accuracy. Wyatt seemed a little surprised in the first moment, but he quickly regained his composure and dodged my attacks effortlessly. He defended against the rest of my attacks without giving me any openings.
However, I didn't let it discourage me. Instead, I tried harder, playing to my strengths. I used my agility to search for a weakness in Wyatt's defenses.
Suddenly, I noticed a slight change in Wyatt's eyes and a momentary loss of balance. I seized the opportunity and attacked quickly. I lowered my upper body, keeping my weight centered, and extended my right foot to sweep the floor, attempting to trip Wyatt. To my surprise, Wyatt faked a move, tripped my left leg before I could react, and swiftly threw me over his shoulder.
The next thing I knew, I closed my eyes, expecting to feel pain. But it didn't come. I opened my eyes and found Wyatt holding me in his arms.
"You're quite weak. Do you really think you can be my Luna?" Wyatt said softly, his tone gentle, but his expression dismissive, which made me suddenly angry.
"You..." My heart raced, and my face turned red with a mix of embarrassment and anger, like a ripe apple.
"Thank you for the demonstration, Odette," Wyatt said, letting go of me and smiling at the group.
I nodded vigorously, but I didn't really hear what he was saying.
I returned to my original position and felt the cold stares from the other girls.
"Ah, she couldn't get Jayson, so she's trying to seduce Wyatt. How low-class," a girl with short hair said. Another bespectacled girl beside her chimed in, "There won't be a place for Eliana when she arrives."
Just as she said that, Eliana actually arrived. Her presence immediately caught everyone's attention. She walked towards us, her gaze fixed on us, exuding confidence and pride with every step.
She never woke up early, let alone came to training under the hot sun. Today, she was dressed in a low-cut mini dress, which looked nice, but it made her stand out among our group, who were all dusty and wearing loose t-shirts and shorts. She seemed different, almost contrary.
"Oh, look at this place. Our heroes are training. It's so inspiring," Eliana said, sounding envious. Her voice was full of pity, as if she really wanted to join us but couldn't.
To be honest, I still had doubts about Eliana's heart condition. Every time she claimed to have a heart attack, it conveniently happened, and I never saw her take any medication.
Eliana walked into the circle and approached Wyatt Parker. "Mr. Parker, can I just watch? I'm not feeling well enough to participate, but I would love to observe, even if it's just as a spectator."
Whenever Eliana made that puppy dog face and spoke in that tone, everyone would give her whatever she wanted. I didn't think Wyatt Parker would be any different. I waited for him to say yes to Eliana, but instead, I heard him say...
"No," he said firmly.
