"Eliana, it's not your fault. It's the Rogues and the one brought Rogues in!" Jayson stepped forward to protect Eliana, shielding Eliana behind him, and I stared at him in disbelief, looking at him like an idiot.
I sneered and retorted, "So it's not my fault? I didn't conspire with the Rogues! I don't even know him or them!"
"If you don't know it, why would it come after you?" Samantha interrupted. "And why did you rush to the weapons room? Who knows if you're planning to defend yourself or hand our weapons over to someone else! After all, you already stole wolfsbane before."
"Enough!" my dad yelled, and Samantha, startled, shut her mouth.
Dad turned to Wyatt and asked, "Mr. Parker, did you witness anything?"
Wyatt Parker hadn't uttered a word since then. I didn't know what he saw or heard, but I feared his saying would worsen my situation.
Wyatt came out from the crowd. He was incredibly tall and strong. Even if he hadn't stepped forward, I could make sure everyone would have noticed him.
"I heard a commotion and went out to investigate. I saw the gray wolf adn followed it, but I don't believe it knew Miss Odette Bennett. It was attempting to attack her, and I didn't hear any communication between them," Wyatt stated.
I was surprised that Wyatt lied for me. The gray wolf had called my name, but he must have thought revealing that information wouldn't help my case so he chose to keep his mouth closed.
Wyatt finished speaking and subtly winked at me when no one was looking.
I immediately averted my gaze and lowered my head.
How dare him, in a situation like this, at a time like this...
"But they don't need to communicate directly. They could have prearranged everything," Samantha chimed in.
"Then why did it attack Miss Odette Bennett? Mrs. Bennett? Or do you think I made wrong judgements before?" Wyatt smiled and stared at Samantha in silence.
Samantha appeared clearly frightened and quickly fell silent. No one doubted Wyatt's abilities, and his role in transforming the Blue Crescent Pack from an obscure pack into the strongest one of all time was undoubtedly a significant factor.
"By the way, how can we be certain it was the Rogues Did anyone recognize the wolf?" Wyatt's piercing gaze swept across the room, causing everyone to waver.
Dad pondered for a moment, then nodded. He understood that Wyatt had a valid point. There was no conclusive evidence linking the wolf to the Rogues, and no one was familiar with it. This situation led people to reconsider the entire possibility of the event.
"Before we jump to conclusions and start doubting each other, we need to calm down. We can't engage in internal conflicts at such a crucial moment. We are a family, and we must face these challenges together. Right now, we need to gather more information and uncover the truth. We shouldn't make assumptions and accusations," Dad continued. "We will form a team to investigate and track the wolf's movements. Simultaneously, we'll conduct an internal inquiry to question and investigate everyone."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Samantha also nodded but she glared at Wyatt with hatred in her eyes. It made me question Samantha's motives.
I had assumed she simply hated me and considered me a suspect, but now it seemed she had something else to hide. Could it be possible that she's the one collaborating with the Rogues? Maybe that's why she was so eager to accuse me.
If that were true, I couldn't help but worry again. I had planned to leave this place in a month, once I turned into an adult and bonded with Wyatt Parker. However, that would only happen if the Rouge Moon Pack was safe. I didn't want anything to happen to the pack. After all, it was where I grew up, and they were my only family.
After everyone returned to their cottages, I approached Wyatt Parker discreetly.
"You've been by my side this whole time. Is there something you want to say?" Wyatt asked, turning back as he approached the cottage.
I stopped and asked: "Why are you helping me?"
Wyatt found my question amusing. He chuckled a few times before responding, "Aren't you my mate, my little princess? It's only natural for me to help my mate," he said, stepping closer to me until his shadow enveloped me, causing me to take two steps back.
Suddenly, he leaned over and whispered in my ear, "But it seems like you’re not lying. You're really not doing well in the Rouge Moon Pack. How will you repay me for doing you such a big favor?"
"What?" I couldn't bear the closeness and instinctively took a step back, only to realize there was a tree behind me. I was trapped.
Wyatt tilted his head, his warm breath brushing against my face. His gaze moved from my face to the corners of my mouth. He whispered, "Didn't Mr. Bennett teach you to express gratitude sincerely?"
Damn it! He must have asked him about the apology and mimicked me!
I felt flustered and blinked repeatedly.
"What do you want?"
Wyatt looked at my flustered face and couldn't help but laugh loudly. He straightened up and smiled. "Don't be nervous," he said. "I'll let you know when the time is right."
I let out a sigh of relief, feeling some of the tension in my heart dissipate. I was beginning to realize that Wyatt might not be the cold and silent guy I had initially thought. On the contrary, he had a playful side to him.
Observing him like this, I couldn't resist asking, "Why do you trust me? Aren't you worried that I might actually be colluding with the Rogues?"
Wyatt smiled, as if nothing had happened.
"I don't trust you; I trust myself," he replied. "Even if you were working with the Rogues, I would still be able to defeat them."
