Chapter: 2

Chapter 2:

My mother wasn't a good person, but I loved her anyway because she was my mother. Somehow, she managed to talk herself into the bed of the world's number one hero. Months later, I was born. I'm not sure what her plan was after that because I was so young. Maybe she was going to try and blackmail my father about my existence. Maybe she was going to ransom me to him. All I knew was that all of her plans fell apart when I hit four years old without my quirk ever manifesting. That day was burned into my memories. My mother had declared me a useless quirkless waste and promptly dumped me off at the nearest orphanage. I never saw her again after that…

Life in the orphanage wasn't easy for a seemingly quirkless girl. The matrons and other kids would constantly pick on me. If another child did something wrong, I was the one who got blamed and punished.

This continued until I was 10 years old. That was when my whole life changed. The matron of the orphanage was once again berating me and blaming me for a mess that I didn't cause. The other kids had intentionally spilled their food all over the floor and blamed me. Kids were shitty like that sometimes. The matron knew I didn't cause the mess, but she liked to use any excuse to punish me anyway. Why? Because I was diagnosed as quirkless in a world where people hated such a thing.

I remember that with tears in my eyes, I ran outside to escape the yelling and into the street without looking both ways. I was a stupid upset kid. Of course, I didn't notice the car that smacked into me and sent me flying.

When I woke up in the hospital, that's when I realized everything had changed for me. I had woken up with memories of a completely different life. The life of a girl who grew up in a world where quirks didn't exist. It was also in those memories that I discovered my entire world was apparently an anime… and I wasn't even a main character. I was a nobody. A useless quirkless background character.

At least I thought I was...

It was only later when I looked in the mirror at my own appearance that I realized who I resembled. In fact, I was 99% sure I was that person's child. My hair was the exact same shade of golden blonde. My eyes were blazingly blue. And I had a grin that could stretch across my whole face. I immediately knew I was somehow the daughter of All Might…

I also wasn't as quirkless as I thought I was. I had inherited my father's version of One For All.

"And that's pretty much my story. I graduated High School early to focus on my training. When I turned 16, I just couldn't take the orphanage anymore so I left. Thankfully my best and only friend Momo and her family were kind enough to take me in," I explained to my audience.

The members of my audience were sitting across from me, mouths agape. In front of me was my father, All Might; his close friend, Nezu, the dean of UA College; along with my dad's friend, Naomasa Tsukauchi. The latter had a lie-detecting quirk if I remembered correctly.

I left out the details of my past life memories in my explanation to them though. I didn't really mind if my father or Nezu knew about those, but I wasn't going to speak about them to someone like Naomasa who answered to the police, which was probably filled with spies for All for One.

I was currently in the dean's private office at UA College. I looked around the room in excitement. This was the dream school of every single person in the entire country, including myself! All Might had taken me here following my defeating the sludge villain. I don't know if it was more to confirm I was actually his daughter, or just to escape the waves of adoring fans that quickly surrounded us.

After I had boldly declared myself All Might's daughter in front of that crowd of people, things got a bit crazy. Everyone in the crowd nearby had immediately swarmed around my father and me and bombarded us with questions. The shock and confusion on my father's face were pretty funny. He obviously never knew I existed after all…

"T-that's quite the story." All Might turned towards his friend, Naomasa, to confirm whether I was telling the truth or not. His friend nodded his head towards him. He turned back towards me and gave me a sad smile. "Why did you never contact me if you knew I was your father?"

"Well, for one thing, I bet you have kids call up your agency all the time claiming to be yours," I said.

"Indeed, I do," All Might replied with a sigh.

"For another, I didn't want to distract you away from your hero career or worse, end up captured by villains and used as a hostage against you," I explained. This world wasn't the kind and happy canon. Villains did target the family members of heroes in this world. In the anime, the Todoroki family lived peacefully in a nice house in a neighborhood. In this world, no one knows where they live as hero addresses are strictly guarded secrets. From any tabloid photos I've also seen of those kids, they are always escorted by armed guards.

Nezu, who had been relatively quiet this whole time, spoke up. "She's right, All Might. Had Akane been known to the public, the villains of the world would have done anything to capture her."

All Might looked at me a bit concerned, but I just smirked. "Let them try to come after me now!" I said. "I'll crush them all! I've spent the past 7 years honing my body and mastering my quirk," I said as I held up my arm and flexed. My arm wasn't huge by any means, but it along with my entire body was still perfectly toned with muscles. "Plus, I haven't even awakened my quirk yet! Once I do, none of those villains will be able to match me!" I smirked proudly.

"Just so you know Akane, quirk awakenings are supposed to be a national secret. The general public doesn't know that's a thing. We wouldn't want people trying to throw themselves in perilous situations to try and awaken themselves. Most villains also don't know about quirk awakenings either." Naomasa explained to me.

"Really?" I asked, surprised. "I won't mention that to people again then." He gave me a nod at that.

"On the matter of quirks, what exactly is yours?" Nezu asked me. I gave him a confused look. Wasn't it obvious?

"You know… it's the same as my father's," I replied as if that was the most obvious thing in the world. They seemed taken aback by my declaration.

"Wait… how does she have One for All?" Naomasa asked All Might. "I thought you had to–"

"Detective!" Nezu interrupted him before he blabbed the secret of All Might's quirk. I already knew all about it, but they didn't know that. Truth be told, I had no idea how I had his quirk either, but what did it really matter in the end? I had it and that was that.

"You truly believe you have my power?" All Might asked me.

I just nodded back to him with a smirk. I held out my arm across the table and asked if he wanted to test my strength.

He initially looked cautious, but then steeled himself. "Challenge accepted." All Might shifted to his buffed up form and clasped his arm against mine. Both of us immediately started pulling in opposite directions as we began our fierce arm wrestle! The table beneath us started to crack from our struggle. All Might was strong! Even though he was far from his prime he was matching me with almost everything I had–Almost. I clenched my teeth and with a heave I slammed my arm hard down onto the table! The table shattered beneath us, but it didn't matter. I had just beat All Might himself in arm wrestling!

"Holy Shit!" Naomasa exclaimed from the side.

I was absolutely grinning like a loon. "Is that enough proof for you…old man." I teased my father who was still staring at the shattered table and his arm in shock. I wonder when the last time he lost in a battle of strength was.

Nezu chuckled loudly. "Truly the younger generation will always surpass the old!" He exclaimed.

"I guess that cinches it… So what are you going to do now, Akane? You claimed you want to be the next symbol of peace?" All Might asked me.

"That's right! I just finished my 200 hours of community service today. This next term I'll be officially joining UA in the hero course!"

"Normally I would say good luck, but from that display of power you're pretty much guaranteed a top spot in the exam. I'll look forward to the day you officially enroll, Akane." Nezu said to me.

"Thank you!"

"Would you like to… would you like to move in with me?" All Might was shifting nervously as he randomly asked that. I thought that was adorable and I was a bit taken aback at his question.

It put a large smile on my face, though. "I would absolutely love to move in with you. I've been with my best friend since I left the orphanage, but her family can be a bit… stuffy." Momo's parents were nice, but they really were some prim and proper blue bloods, and they acted like it at all times. I could also never figure out if Momo's mom was actually flirting with me or just enjoyed teasing me constantly. I needed to get out of that mansion before I accidentally jumped on the woman and ruined my friendship with Momo!

"Who have you been staying with?" Nezu asked. My father and Naomasa also looked curious.

"My friend's name is Momo Yaoyorozu. She's the heiress of Yaoyorozu Industries," I said.

The three adults in the room looked surprised at me when I said that.

"Wow," Naomasa said with a chuckle. "You know your best friend's family is probably the wealthiest in the entire country?"

"Yeah, their mansion is pretty amazing. It just feels a bit lonely because it's so massive. Usually it's just Momo and I with the servants since her parents travel a lot."

"...Servants." I heard my father mutter to himself in surprise. Yeah, having actual servants in this day and age was almost unheard of, and yet the Yaoyorozus had a staff of over 50. Even so, the mansion was so massive that you still hardly ever saw one of them…

"Very well then," Nezu said with a nod. "You're clearly who you have claimed to be, Akane. Also the DNA test came back positive. I think we're done here for now." Nezu said to me.

"When did you take a DNA test!?" I exclaimed.

That chair you're sitting in is a technological marvel capable of scanning the DNA of anyone who sits in it." Nezu bragged. "I built it myself." Wow, this fluffy rodent was devious.

Also, of course I was who I claimed to be! I would have been offended, but then I was aware that there were literally hundreds of kids every year that came out and declared themselves as All Might's illegitimate children. It was a whole thing…

"Why don't you go and spend some time with your daughter, old friend?" Nezu said to All Might.

"If that's all you'll need me for, I'm afraid I have to get back to work," Naomasa said as he stood up to leave the office. All Might thanked his friend for coming before Naomasa left.

"I suppose we should head out as well, Akane," my father said to me. "Come on, I'll show you All Might Tower. I'm sure you're going to love it! Although…our lobby might be absolutely packed with reporters after what happened today."

Nezu just let out a chuckle from the side. "Constantly being harassed by enthusiastic reporters is just the price you pay for being a hero."

"Oh right," I said before I forgot. "I promised to have dinner with the Yaoyorozus today. Would you like to come as well, Dad?"

"Dad?" He seemed taken aback when I said that.

"Can I not call you that?" I asked.

"No-no of course you can. I was just caught off guard a bit. I would be happy for you to call me… Dad." He finished saying with a genuine smile. I noticed that Nezu was smiling at our interaction as well.

I stood up to leave the office with my dad when, suddenly, in the middle of the room, a small golden light materialized out of thin air!

"Get back!" To my surprise, All Might leapt in front of me protectively. In his arms was Nezu, whom he grabbed and also shielded immediately. "It could be a surprise villain attack!"

I put up my guard when I heard him say that. The light was extremely bright, and I had to shield my eyes partly. Still, the golden light continued to glow even brighter for a moment. Almost like the sun itself had materialized in the room… minus the heat, thankfully.

Finally, after half a minute, the intense light subsided before vanishing completely. In its place, floating in the air was… a smartphone?

It hovered in the air for a moment before shooting towards me fast. I instinctively put my hands up to defend myself, but that proved unnecessary. The phone stopped right in front of my face and just hovered there. Confused and mildly intrigued, I reached forward to grab the phone out of the air.

"Get back, Akane! You don't know whether that phone is secretly a bomb or something. It just appeared in the middle of UA in a flash of light!" All Might called out to me. His voice tinged with worry. I felt touched by that.

It was too late though, as my hand had already wrapped around the phone. I held it there for a moment. The random smartphone didn't explode in my face, so I figured it was safe. "I think it's fine. It just looks like an ordinary phone. Maybe someone just teleported it here because they urgently needed to send us a message," I theorized.

"Interesting," Nezu said as he emerged from behind All Might. "Why don't we see what's on it?"

"OK," I said as I handed the phone over to Nezu.

"Hmmm," Nezu tried to swipe at the phone's screen with his adorable paws, but nothing happened. "It doesn't seem to be working for me at all. It won't even turn on. It flew towards you originally, Akane. Maybe you should try," he said as he handed the phone back to me.

"Sure thing." I replied. I put my thumb on the touchscreen, and it immediately lit up.

[System: Welcome to the Multiverse Hero Chat Group! You have been selected as the new members! Please note, these phones are indestructible and will return to you automatically if ever lost.]

[Ice Queen: What?]

[Miss-Know-It-All: This is a phone!? Woah, it's so sleek, and the entire thing is a screen! It was just sitting on my bed when I got home from school! This is so much better than those crummy flip phones that always break when I try to text! I'm pressing with my full strength, and this phone is completely fine!]

[Bird Brain: Hero Chat Group? Really, Wally? That's the prank you're going with this time?]

[Edgelord: …]

[Miss-Know-It-All: You know, it's weird that I didn't see this coming at all. That's never happened before. Is it because I don't know who you guys are?]

Nezu was leaning over my shoulder as he looked down at the phone in my hand as if he'd just found the Holy Grail. "Type something as well, Akane! If this is real… the implications for our world will be staggering."

[Plus Ultra: Hi everybody?]

"My name is Plus Ultra? I like it. It's fitting," I said, looking at the screen, and Nezu next to me nodded.

"Are you sure it's safe for her to type on that, Nezu?" All Might asked with some concern on his face. I found it endearing that he was worried so much about me even though we just met.

"I'm sure it's fine, Dad. Even if it's a bomb, I wouldn't get hurt," I said jokingly. From the frown on his face, I guess he didn't find my dark humor too funny.

[Bird Brain: Hi? Who are you?]

[Plus Ultra: I'm just another member like you guys.]

[Bird Brain: On my screen, it says that you're the admin.]

I'm the admin? Well, alright then.

[Edgelord: …]

[Bird Brain: Whoa, this system guy wasn't kidding. I literally just stomped on this phone as hard as I could, and there's not a scratch on it!]

[Ice Queen: I did the same.]

[Miss-Know-It-All: So what is this, anyways?]

[System: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Hero Chat Group. Throughout the Multiverse, there are numerous worlds that are heading towards ruin one way or another, including each of your own! It will be your job to save them. We don't expect you to do this for free, however, and you will be justly compensated depending on the difficulty of your assignments!]

[Bird Brain: … Do we have a choice?]

[System: You always have a choice, but it is highly recommended that you join.]

[Plus Ultra: Wait, why?]

[System: As mentioned before, each of your worlds is heading towards ruin...]

"That doesn't sound too good," Nezu said next to me.

"How could our world be heading towards ruin?" All Might asked. "I already defeated–" He cut himself off when he remembered I was in the room. He was obviously going to say All for One, though.

"Maybe a new villain is going to pop up who's really strong. I mean, the quirk singularity theory basically says quirks are continuously getting stronger every generation and that they will eventually destroy us if that doesn't stop.'' I explained. I was also annoyed. Here I had spent years training to become the next symbol of peace and slap around any villains that popped up, and now this chat group system is claiming all my effort isn't going to be enough… What the hell is coming for my world then?

[Bird Brain: RUIN!? Why!?]

[Miss-Know-It-All: Like, our worlds will be destroyed?]

[Edgelord: …]

[Ice Queen: Good riddance! My world's already ruined…]

[System: The only way to save each of your worlds and others is to rely on this chat group and each other.]

[Bird Brain: Can we tell other people about this to get help?]

[Plus Ultra: …I already did. My dad and his friend are literally standing over my shoulder reading this as well.]

[Edgelord: …]

[System: Feel free to tell as many people as you want. Just keep in mind that some may think you're crazy, or others might try to murder you to steal your spot in the group. Not that that would work, it has happened to members of other chat groups in the past though...]

Well that wasn't morbid at all…

[Ice Queen: I'm not exactly a hero, you know. Not even really that great of a person…]

[Miss-Know-It-All: I'm not really either... I've also killed innocent people in the past due to... circumstances.]

[System: Being an Anti-Hero also counts as being a Hero. You were all selected for a reason and it was absolutely not random... ]

[Bird Brain: I don't know how I feel working with killers.]

[Plus Ultra: Same…]

[Ice Queen: Your worlds must be really peaceful then…]

[Plus Ultra: Peaceful? Up until 20 years ago most of my world was ruled by villainous warlords!]

[Bird Brain: Wow…that sucks.]

[Ice Queen: Apologies if I came off as insensitive.]

[System: Your opinions on that matter have been recorded and ignored. Also, note that after today, I will no longer be in contact with any of you except to issue missions and rewards.]

[Ice Queen: So when exactly is this first mission or whatever?]

[System: The mission will commence in exactly 7 days. Please note that time will not be frozen within your respective worlds as you are sent to new ones. It was very difficult syncing up the timestream of your five respective worlds in the first place. Therefore, you need to plan your absences accordingly.]

[Miss-Know-It-All: 7 days!? That's not a lot of warning! Where are we going? How long will we be gone!? I need details to prepare!]

[System: I am forbidden from issuing official quest details until they start.]

[Edgelord: He70…]

[Plus Ultra: Hey, Edgelord typed something… I think... Does Edgelord know how to read?]

[Bird Brain: He hasn't exactly said anything yet, has he? Besides, whatever that was...]

[Ice Queen: Maybe he comes from a world that doesn't have phones and doesn't know how to use one?]

[Miss-Know-It-All: That could be possible. When I was younger, cell phones didn't even exist yet…]

[Bird Brain: WHAT!?]

[Plus Ultra: ... Are you an old lady?]

[Bird Brain: Are you old? +1]

[Edgelord: 1]

[Plus Ultra: Oh, look at that. I think he does know how to read. He probably just doesn't know how to type on a phone, though. Also, answer the question, Miss Know-It-All.]

[Miss-Know-It-All: Don't you know it's rude to ask a lady her age!?]

[Ice Queen: I agree with Miss Know-It-All. It is rude to ask a lady her age, especially a clearly old lady like her…]

[Plus Ultra: Oof.]

[Bird Brain: Big oof!]

[Miss-Know-It-All: How rude! I'm not talking to you guys anymore for the rest of the week.]

- Miss-Know-It-All has logged off-

[Ice Queen: Looks like someone can't take a joke, but that's fine. I have things to do as well. The existence of the multiverse to me is staggering. I have some things to discuss with some people for now… I'll see you all in a week, and then I can find out if this is really happening or if somebody has just been messing with my mind…]

- Ice Queen has logged off-

- Plus Ultra has logged off-

I turned off the phone's screen and turned back towards Nezu and All Might. "Well, that happened..."
