Immersed in a blissful moment of relaxation, Toya was relishing the cool breeze against his face when an unpleasant sight caught his attention.
"Is this for real?" Toya sighed, his tranquility shattered. He approached the scene where three men were harassing a woman who appeared significantly older than him.
"Move along, I'm busy," the woman retorted fearlessly, her glasses reflecting the men's intimidating figures as she stared them down.
Anyone familiar with her alter ego would instantly recognize her.
"Come on, beauty. Join us, it'll be fun," one of the men smirked, his intentions clear.
Before the man could lay a hand on the woman, a string of flame wrapped around his ankle. With a swift pull, the man was sent sprawling onto the ground.
The flame string vanished as if it had never existed, but the woman had witnessed it.
Toya stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of the woman.
"Are you guys so desperate that you're resorting to harassing a defenseless woman? Find someone who's actually interested," Toya retorted, thumbing towards the woman. "What if she were a hero? You'd be behind bars."
The man dusted himself off, standing up with a forced casualness. "Alright, let's go," he told his companions, but as they retreated, he muttered, "Remember their faces."
Toya spared the woman a brief glance, a nagging sense of familiarity tugging at him. He'd seen her somewhere, possibly on TV, but he shrugged it off and continued on his way.
Unbeknownst to him, his actions had set in motion a change in the woman's fate. The woman was none other than Kayama Nemuri, also known as Midnight, the R-rated hero.
"What was that all about?" Nemuri wondered aloud, her gaze lingering on Toya's retreating figure.
After the encounter, Toya continued on his way, leaving the scene behind. However, Kayama Nemuri, better known as Midnight, found herself rooted to the spot, her mind still processing the recent events.
She watched as the young man disappeared into the crowd, his nonchalant demeanor in stark contrast to the bold actions he had just taken. She couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude and curiosity towards this stranger who had stepped in to help her.
Later that day, as Nemuri was changing into her hero costume, she found herself thinking about the young man. She had been in her civilian attire during the incident, and it was clear that he hadn't recognized her as the R-rated hero, Midnight. Yet, he had intervened without hesitation.
She wondered who he was. He seemed young, probably still a student. But the way he had used his Quirk, creating and controlling flames, was impressive. It wasn't just the strength of his Quirk, but also the way he had utilized it, with such precision and control.
"I'm gonna remember him" Nemuri mutters.
Toya had just arrived at his classroom when a sudden sneeze overtook him. He promptly utilized the flames within his body to purify any potential pathogens that might have invaded his system.
"Must be from hanging around the river too long," Toya mumbled to himself, taking his seat as the school day commenced in its usual rhythm.
After school, he found himself walking home alone as his friend Kei was preoccupied. As he strolled down the not-so-quiet road, he noticed the three men he had encountered.
"Ready to lose a limb or two?" one of the men taunted.
"You guys really are petty. I stop you once, and you're already out to ruin my life," Toya retorted, a chuckle escaping his lips.
"So what?" another man spat.
"Well, you're picking a fight with the wrong guy," Toya replied, tossing his bag towards a nearby wall. He unbuttoned his shirt, rolled up his sleeves, and asked, "So, do you want a taste of these hands or these legs?"
The men fell silent, prompting a smile from Toya. "Both it is, then," he declared, kicking off his shoes towards the wall.
"Be prepared," Toya warned, his eyes gleaming with a devilish smile. 'These guys will make perfect test subjects. Let's call them fodder 1, 2, and 3,' he thought.
The man in the middle morphed into a beastly were-lion - fodder 1. The man on the left transformed into solid iron - fodder 2. The third man's body enlarged and started to glow blue - fodder 3.
"Pure strength, huh? Easy," Toya taunted, flames flickering around his legs. Before the trio could reach him, Toya propelled himself towards them using jets of flame from his legs.
Fodder 1 took a kick to the face, unable to react to Toya's speed. His nose broke upon impact, blood spilling out as he hit a wall.
Fodder 2 and 3 attempted to punch Toya, who was still airborne, but he maneuvered around them, using their fists as platforms.
Toya pressed down on their fists with one hand, propelling himself upwards. As he descended, he delivered a devastating axe kick to Fodder 2's head, his leg enveloped in solid flame. The impact was so severe that half of Fodder 2's body sunk into the ground, rendering him unconscious.
Fodder 3 tried to punch Toya, but he saw it coming and let his body fall. Before hitting the ground, he propelled himself towards Fodder 3 using the flames on his legs.
Simultaneously, he created a Rasengan in his palm and used it against Fodder 3. The attack was so potent that Fodder 3 fainted, his body shocked by the impact.
Toya then stood and turned his attention to Fodder 1, who was struggling to stand. With a devilish grin, Toya jumped onto the wall behind Fodder 1 as his blue eyes fixed on him.
Fodder 1 froze in fear, muttering, "Devil."
"Haha, leave while I'm still feeling merciful," Toya advised. Fodder 1 quickly fled the scene, abandoning his unconscious companions.
"That was easy. I guess there will be many thugs coming after me," Toya mused with a smirk. "I can test my powers against them."
With that, Toya collected his belongings and headed home. After a refreshing bath, he settled into the living room, only to see a news report on TV.
[Breaking news: A villain attack has been reported in the xxxx area of Musutafu. Evidence of flame usage was found at the scene. The victims, both ex-prisoners, are in stable condition. The police will conduct an investigation as soon as the victims regain consciousness.]
'Damn, the police here are fast,' Toya thought to himself, 'Good thing there were no cameras nearby.'
