Chapter 90

Maltheus tumbled backward off Harun with cat-quick reflexes. Harun merely lay there, on his side, his eyes going between the two nearly-identical avians with dazed confusion that must be spell-induced, for Kelwyn knew that Harun should be able to easily tell them apart, despite their resemblance. Maltheus was very like him, yes, but he was far from a perfect twin.

Kelwyn circled around Harun, but Maltheus did as well, keeping the fire-lion between them.

“You seem awfully determined to kill me, yet we’ve not even been properly introduced,” said Maltheus, and his tone would have been almost conversational if he wasn’t shouting over the fire’s roar.
