Cut in line

The ice-cold wind was hitting her face without any remorse but she didn't move. Not with his hand on her shoulder, not while looking at the house in front of them, right across the street.

She didn't know why she was even here. They were looking at a mere suburban 2-story house with different toys stuck in the roof.

It had nothing different from other houses around here but she didn't know why she have to be here. However, she didn't dare to ask, not even to look at him knowing he will see her real feelings. She couldn't have that, she knew the punishment for such a great sin so she just stay in place with her expressionless face.

"Sir, is this the house?"

Asked one of their bodyguards, she didn't know how he looked not because he had his face covered but because she never cared enough to look at his face. Another wind hit her but this time it hit her sensitive ears again she didn't dare to say anything.

"Yes, search the house for that flag and any evidence."

He said in a weak whisper, even so, his voice was filled with authority and power that can make your knees tremble. The bodyguard just nod his head and took his phone out.

In mere seconds the girl was left alone. The hand that was on her shoulders disappeared but she didn't dare to turn her head, because she could hear his steps. He slow down his steps knowing she was listening knowing if she dare to even look at him another day full of pain will waiting for her.

The steps faded away, the young girl could only relax a little bit not daring to let her guard down.

*slam*

The sound of the slamming door attracted her attention she looked up and saw a...

She saw... him. He was younger than her by some years. His eyes were brighter than the stars, smile like the sun itself his white messy hair moving along with his every jump he made that was full of excitement and with his cute little voice was laughing without a care in the world.

*crack*

"Miss we have to go the residents seem to leave the perimeter and..."

She raised a hand stopping the man behind her. In less than 2 seconds a black car stopped in front of her and the bodyguard behind her opened up the back seat door.

Her eyes never left him... sh-she couldn't move her eyes. She got up in the car and return her eyes to him. He was running with a wide smile holding the hand of a girl with blond short hair.

*crack*

She put a hand on her chest feeling a soft pain. The weird thing is that she didn't mind this pain, it was so very intriguing, the pain was weirdly going past her chest and pressing itself on her fast-beating heart.

*crack* *crack*

She could remember so very well that day. The day when she saw him for the first time, the day when she finally felt something.

...the day when, after so many years the darkness around her heart cracked enough to receive light...

PRESENT

The 2 Loud sisters were running on the hospital halls as close as they got to their brother's room, and both of them realized that they didn't need the directions of the receptionist. The noise their family made is a huge dead giveaway. They saw their whole family in the hallway. The parents were speaking with the doctor and Lynn arguing with a male nurse who looked more tired than ever.

The reason for the whole family sitting in the hallways is simple. It seems the family was doing too much noise and fearing for the patient and the others from the hospital the nurse asked (forced) everyone out of the room. At the beginning, they said no, shocker, but in the final, they all got out.

Now the little ones, Lili, Lisa, Lola, and Lana were sitting on the plastic chairs half asleep but when their big eyes were fighting again the sleep they couldn't help to continue to stare at the door of the room where their only brother is right now.

Lisa, while fighting with the natural need for sleep, she would type on her tablet screen. Her messy brown hair was covering a few parts of her green-like jade eyes that stare with intensity at the screen. Her big glasses couldn't hide the little scowl in her eyebrows, despite the serious, nah the serious sleepy eyes of her made her look even more adorable.

The twins looked struck like in a daze, half asleep half awake, sharing one chair, with their little hands holding each other, their heads supporting each other with their shoulders stuck close and their big blue eyes starring at the door while fighting with all their might to keep it open.

The older one, the ever-smiling Leni was holding Lili in her arms letting her sleep more comfortably, except now her smile was real. Her bright green eyes stare at the door, more than ready to open it and see her dear brother again.

Lili was holding their brother's old t-shirt sleeping peacefully in her big sister's arms with her little blonde head resting on her bosom.

Some bystanders couldn't help to steal some glances at the beautiful youngsters.

"Guys!"

Said the rock star with rough breathing from running till here. The twins snap their heads toward their big sisters. Lisa just turn her head slowly with a tired smile appearing on her face.

Lili didn't wake up but Leni got up holding the little blonde angel while looking at her younger and older sister.

"Lori, Luna!"

The twins jump off the chair, Lola jumped in Lori's arms, and Lana in Luna's. Lisa came she didn't go for a hug she looked pretty thrilled about their sisters' appearance. Leni was absolutely glowing. She would have jumped on both her sisters hugging the life of them, but that would wake up Lili so she stopped herself. Unknowingly Lori and Luna dodge a bullet there thanks to Lili.

"C'mon, man! Let me back in for 10 minutes, no 5 minutes!"

It seems that Lynn didn't even notice the presence of their big sisters too busy to try to convince the nurse to get her back in the room where her brother is resting.

"Sorry, Miss Loud. I can't let you back..."

"Why the fu..."

"Languages!"

With a stern voice, her mother cut her off before to even to finish the word, she understood her daughter's feelings everyone did, but it wasn't needed for such language, especially in a hospital.

Lynn could only growl like a mad dog, with the nurse that only wanted to go away from the Loud girl and plainly pass out in the restroom.

"*gasp* Lori Luna!"

The new voice attracted the attention of the girls especially Lynn that only now realized her big sisters' presence.

Luan, the owner of the voice looked excited towards her older sister and like Leni, if her hands weren't occupied she would jump and give them a bone-crushing hug.

Before for the older Loud sister to arrive Luan went to the nearest open store and brought some snacks for the little ones and some coffee for the oldest sister and the parents.

"Guys! When did you come?!"

Fortunately, Lynn jumped and gave them a... positively ACTUALLY bone-crushing hug that left the two girls without air for a second there.

Everyone thanked Luan for the snacks and the coffee. When the Loud sister were distracted the parents walk away with the doctor to discuss Lincoln's state, their daughters were too occupied chatting, catching up, and hugging the daylights out of Lori and Luna to notice their parents gone...

...but a pair of green eyes saw them.

Lori was so happy, their family was together at least. Once Lincoln woke up they will go back home. Turning everything back to normal, and having him back in their arms. Maybe she can convince the professors to let her go for a couple of days she was plenty of credits she could afford to miss some days of school. Oh god! She literally could stop smiling while being with her... sisters?

Her big sister's senses told her something was not right. She looked down looking at her sisters, Lola, Lana, and Luan were speaking with Luna asking questions about the concerts and the tour, Lisa was still typing on her tablet in her chair while munching like chipmunk one big cookie, Lynn got back to try to convince the nurse to get her back in Lincoln's room and Leni was holding Lili that was sleeping peacefully despite the noise all her... nine... sisters... make....

....nine?....

...

...

"Lucy!"

"Huh?!"

All her sisters stopped immediately what they were doing to look at their big sister.

"Girls! Where is Lucy?"

Where was Lucy? All the girls widen their eyes in the realization of the lack of their gothic sister. Even Lisa stopped typing to look around her for Lucy. For all, she know she would have been sitting right next to her all this time without her even noticing. Unfortunately, their spooky sister was nowhere near them.

Before the fear of losing their sister crawled in the Loud's hearts Lynn widen once again her big green eyes in absolute realization and an angry scowl formed quickly on her beautiful flecked face.

"...t-THAT LITTLE... When I will catch her little spooky ass she will..."

Said the brunette while stomping toward the room where their brother was still resting, the nurse, that was still in the hallway with them all this time noticed what the sporty girl wanted to do and rushed in front of the 14 years old girl.

"M-Miss I can't let.... "Move it" Woah!"

With a hand. A 14 years old girl with a single hand push off her way a 30+ man that was more or less twice her size and weight without so much effort. The male nurse didn't know to be impressed or greatly ashamed before the man even pick himself up from the cold floor...

*slam*

...she slammed open the hospital door like a wife that just caught her cheating husband.

"I'll noogie your spooky bat-filled head till next Sunday!"

All the sisters were behind the jock with a ponytail. The older ones entered the room and the younger ones were behind them peaking at the possible fight right outside the door.

Even so, everyone could see clearly the sight in front of them.

Their brother still sleeping in the bed, connected to those machines, and right next to him right on the side of the bed almost falling down was Lucy Loud sleeping without a care in the world.

She wasn't touching him, she didn't even have a spot on his body to be safe to be touched but her slender fingers were holding gently the sleeve of the hospital pale shirt he was wearing. Her breathing was steady and because she was laying on the side you could see between her bangs, right now even close you could see her eyes. The family could see the relaxed face she didn't make in a long time.

In a normal situation now the girls would take out their phones and make as many photos as they could keeping the memory of this sweet scene and the exclusive peak of Lucy's eyes.

"No fair for her to go first!"

Lola's voice woke them from their stupor state. Lynn snap her jaw back up flex her muscle ready to jump on her roommate and show her how is the boss.

"Grrrrr! Let me go! Let me get her! Let me get her! You dare get a head start ain't ya!"

Fortunately, Lori grabbed Lynn hugging her tight stopping her before to literally jump on her little sister.

"I also want to sleep next to Lincoln! "

Lola was already trying to get past her annoying sisters and sleep on the other side of her brother or she could simply push off her big gothic sister and take her place, yeah that would be better. Unfortunately, a little hand stopped her before to even make a step toward her big brother.

"I assure dear sibling unit that executing dormancy next to our injured male sibling would provoke his injuries to increase or aggravate!"

"..."

"..."

"..."

"*sigh* Is a bad idea to sleep next to him right now. It can harm him."

The sisters exclaimed a short "aahhh" after the explication of their smart sister. The little genius could only shake slowly her little head and look at their brother. If anybody would look at her eyes they could have seen some emotion behind those spectacles. Sadness, happiness, relief, and another one that was exclusively directionat toward her big sister, jealousy.

The girls started to argue... again, their voices couldn't be recognized because everyone was speaking at the same time each second louder and louder trying to top the next one.

In that kind of situation, the nurse came across when he finally decided to pick himself up from the floor thanking the gods for nobody being there to watch the scene when he was pushed over by a little girl.

He didn't know what he could do. He was blocked but suddenly he felt a warm hand on his cold shoulder he turned his head and his eyes meet a pair of one of the most beautiful green eyes he ever saw in his life.

"I will take it from here you could totally need a rest. Don't worry."

Leni said with a beautiful smile that almost made the male nurse's heart skip a beat. Leni took her hand off his shoulder and gave the still-sleeping Lili to Luan that even she took Lili her arm she didn't turn her head or even stopped arguing with her sisters.

Leni just walked towards the sleeping Lucy and with her slender arm she grabbed Lucy by the collar and picked her up like a cat keeping her in the air like she was holding a puppet not a human being.

This gesture froze the entire room.

For the male nurse for a moment he saw Leni like an angel, and I repeat 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 because the second she picked up a human being like it was nothing with a single hand any holy imagines came crashing down like a glass bottle in front of a cat.

"Since when you were awake?"

Leni said with her ever smile on her beautiful face but this time that smile was back to that perfect polished fakeness, her green eyes were filled with the same emotions as Lisa, Lori, Lynn, Luna, Luan, Lola, and Lana.

Lots of happiness for seeing their brother again and a bit of pure jealousy towards the vampire-loving sister. Some trying to hide and some...

"I will get you for this at home duchess of darkness!"

...didn't try that much

Now being busted Lucy could only make an almost minuscule smile filled to the brim with smugness.

"Worth it. Also, I woke up before Lynn to bust in the room like a mad dog but I didn't move because I wanted to stay longer."

"Mad Dog?! Me?! That's it! Grrrrrr! *bark* *bark*"

Lynn was pretty surprised by this statement but for everyone in the room even the nurse who doesn't even know the sporty girl knew that statement was spot on, especially now. The jealousy in the sisters' hearts increase but except for Lynn, they didn't say anything, because they knew that if given the opportunity they would do exactly the same.

"What in the ding-dong is happening here...!"

The new male voice made all of the people in the room snap their heads toward the door where the Loud Parents were sitting and looking at their children with stern gazes. Seeing her parents Lynn snap off of her mad state immediately. Her arms fall limp next to her body with Lori still hugging her body and once again she voiced out her thoughts.

"...Ah crap..."

Their parents' gazes got even sterner. All the girls couldn't even say something to protect themself they knew what they did was wrong they could only get out and accept their earful from their parents.

"Out, now"

Their mother's voices affirm their thoughts. But it seems one of the Loud children really didn't want for them to get out of the room right now.

"...no...."

A weak broken voice came out and the mother just keep herself strong she knew how their daughters feel, she and her husband were the same. They wanted just to stay in this very room till their baby boy woke up but they knew they can't. Lincoln needed his rest.

"Yes, you do! I know you all feel but... "

"...please... no...."

"Lincoln! I told you we have to... t-to..."

"....Mom, Dad ....gi-girls.. please... do-don't go..."

The one who protested was the one and only Lincoln Loud! His eyes were half open and his hand was twitching trying to lift it toward his family.

He opened his mouth to say more but it seems he couldn't. He could stare at his family which was practically petrified from shock. However, they snap out of their state immediately.

"Lincoln!"

The multiple voices filled with happiness could be heard loud and clear across the room and the hallway.
