Prologue (4)

The four bullets passed right through Mitchel's body, and he looked at Evelyn with a face full of disbelief.

Blood then began to gush out of the four bullet wounds in Mitchel's stomach as he slumped over against the wall.

Breathing heavily and staring coldly at the man who had tormented and beat her for years Evelyn finally felt a sense of relief. She had never thought of killing her father before, fearing him too much. But when she saw the gun in Mason's hands and her father cowering, she felt the desire to strike back.

However, as the adrenalin began to wear off, she looked at the gun in her hands and remembered the long suppressed memory of her mother dying.

Dropping the gun Evelyn began cry her emotions now in turmoil as the weight of what she had just dawning on her and her past trauma resurfacing.

Mason looked at his little sister and then their dying father.

Currently Evelyn was collapsed and having an emotional breakdown, but his mind was racing to figure out what to do.

Quickly he realized that they could not stay here, as they were now both involved in murdering their father.

Running up to his sister, he shook her a bit to get her to regain her focus, and said, "Evie we have to go! If any of the neighbors heard the gun shots, they may have called the police. Pack what you can quickly and then we are going."

Mason then left going to his own room to pack what he could before they were caught.

Once he had stuffed a few sets of clothing and all of the money he had in a bag, he went back to check on his little sister, and found her slowly putting things into a bag.

Of course, Evelyn's emotions were in turmoil, and doing anything with any sort of haste was going to be impossible for her right now.

Seeing this, Mason went over and started packing things for her before dragging her to the den and leaving her there.

After that he went to his father's room and found his car keys and wallet, as well as the safe he kept some of his valuables in.

Mason quickly gathered up these items and went back out to see that Evelyn who was just sitting there in an almost catatonic state.

"Evie, we have to go."

Evelyn looked towards her brother and said, "Where are we going to go, what are we going to do."

A pained expression came over Mason's face, and he said, "I do not know, but we cannot stay here. If the police show up, we are going to go to jail for murder."

Of course, neither of them knew that any half decent lawyer could probably get them off because of the emotional and physical abuse their father had done to them, or at the very least have Evelyn tried in family court instead of as an adult.

However, with their lack of knowledge of the law the two of them decided to run.

Hastily they went into the garage where their father stored the car and quickly left. Heading in a random direction only wishing to get as far away as possible.

After driving for a few hours both of them were too tired to continue and found a cheap motel to stay at for the night.

The next morning, they continued on their way driving east heading away from their home in west.

Unfortunately, when they stopped for gas and supplies a day later, they saw it on the news. That their father had been murdered and his two children were wanted for questioning.

The two of them knew that they could no longer use their father's car since it would be easily tracked.

So, they drove to the nearest bus terminal and bought tickets heading towards the Gold Coast hoping to get as far away as possible.

Alas, they soon had to abandon the bus as at one of the stops when they had gotten off to buy food and use the bathroom.

There they saw that some officers had pulled up and were talking to the bus driver.

Of course, how could the police not track them down when they left their father's car at the bus terminal and there was video of them buying tickets.

The two of them knew that there only option was to run, and they both left the rest stop and started running continuing west.

For the next two days they walked down the highway, keeping a look out for any police officers, and whenever they saw any they would run off the road and hide.

Eventually they came to a small town, and after making sure that there were no officers around. Went towards the local gas station to buy more food and water, and do their best to clean up in the bathroom.

However, before the entered the gas station, a car drove up to them and the driver rolled down his window, and said, "Do you kids need a ride somewhere? As long as it is not too far, I am willing to give you a lift."

When Mason and Evelyn heard this, they were both immediately wary since they had heard plenty of horror stories about people accepting rides from strangers on the side of the road.

The young and well-dressed man seeing their reaction shrugged his shoulders and said, "If you do not want my help, it does not matter to me. Well then good day to you."

As the man began to drive away Evelyn spoke up in desperation and said, "Wait, could you give us directions to a bus or train stop."

The man stopped his car when he heard this and said, "Yeah there is a train stop not too far from here, it is just a seven-minute drive. How about it, I will give you a quick lift and that will be that."

Evelyn looked toward her brother with pleading eyes, she had been walking this entire time and the thought of getting off her feet was too appealing.

Mason still looked a bit skeptical, but ultimately gave into his sisters pleading stare, and said, "Okay if it is just a few minutes, I suppose it would not hurt."

The two of them then huddled into the back seat of the man's car and he began driving south towards the bus stop.

When they had driven for about two minutes and were at a stop light, he looked back at the two of them and saw that they were eyeing the box of water bottles that he had in the back seat next to them.

"If you are thirsty feel free to take a couple. As you can see, I have plenty of water so go ahead."

Nodding her head and thanking the man Evelyn took out two bottles from the package.

Handing one to Mason he looked at it carefully but found that it was sealed and looked completely normal.

They both then opened the water bottles and drank greedily. Quenching their parched throats, and soon they had finished the entire bottle.

"Ahhhh-hhaaaaaaa."

'I think the fatigue is catching up to me, we have been walking for a while and with only a small amount of food and water. I will just close my eyes for a minute Mason will wake me up when we get to the bus stop.' Evelyn thought as she drifted off to sleep.

Unfortunately, Mason was also getting drowsy and soon the two of them had fallen asleep.

Seeing this the man who driving the car smiled with a face so evil it would have made a demon proud.

When Evelyn woke up, she felt something was wrong and when she tried to move, she found that her arms were suspended above her head and chained to the ceiling.

Fear immediately caused her to fully wake up alert and look around.

She could see that she was in a small dark room with no windows and a foul smell propagated throughout the area.

Looking around she quickly found that her brother was also chained up right next to her, and after a few more moments she found the source of the foul smell.

In the middle of the room was the body of another young girl that was laying on the ground in the middle of the room.

Evelyn immediately began screaming hysterically begging for her brother to help her. For anyone to help her.

Alas, the one who answered her cries was the very person that had her chained up, the young chic man that had offered to give them a ride.

Evelyn immediately realized what had happened and started screaming louder.

Still the man simply kept walking forward, and when he was close enough that Evelyn could smell his breath, he grabbed her face and forced her to be quiet.

"Now there will be plenty of that for later, but I am surprised. You woke up a bit early and I have not had time to clean up yet from my last guest. If you would just give me a few moments I will clean up this mess."

The man then released Evelyn's face and went to work cleaning up the body of the young girl that was also in the cellar.

He made sure to show the body to Evelyn so she could see the torture he had afflicted on her, and what was in store for her in the future.

After a few minutes he had the body wrapped up in a plastic bag and washed away the remaining blood down a drain with water and bleach.

He then took the body up the stairs that led out of the room, leaving Evelyn alone with her unconscious brother.

Around an hour later, Mason woke up and saw that Evelyn was also hanging next to him, a resigned expression on her face.

"Evie, what is going on? Where are we?"

Evelyn hearing her brother's voice, looked over at him and with a sorrowful expression said, "I am sorry it is all my fault. If I had not convinced you to get into his car. None of this would have happened."

Mason then remembered how they had gotten into a stranger's car and were supposedly being taken to a train stop.

Unfortunately, their conversation was cut short as the door at the top of the stairs opened and the man walked back in.

When he saw that both of them were awake now, he said, "Ah good, the two of you are awake. This is going to be fun; it is the first time I have done two at the same time. And a brother and sister wanted for patricide at that."

"Ahhhhhhhhh!"

A blood curdling scream resounded through the small cellar as the man who had kidnapped them pressed a hot fire iron against Mason's stomach and said, "Looks like I finally got a reaction, you two are certainly tough bastards and I can tell by the scars you must have seen some shit. But that only makes breaking you even more fun."

He then jammed the red-hot fire iron against Mason again and laughed hysterically as he screamed.

Once he had finished with Mason, he walked over to Evelyn and started lighting a cigarette. He smoked it for about a minute before taking it out and jamming it against Evelyn's arm.

She did her best not to make a sound and grit her teeth as the man put one cigarette after the other out on her arm.

After the seventh one, when he found that she was not going to give a reaction. He looked at her and said, "Am I going to need to use the fire iron for you too? Oh well, just give me a minute"

He then proceeded to use his lighter to heat up the poker he was holding and when it was glowing faintly, he jammed it into Evelyn's side and watched her howl and scream in pain.

For the next couple of weeks, the man continued to torture them until they were burned and scared all over and were barely hanging by a thread.

However, one day instead of his usual implements of torture, he came down the stair only holding a single very sharp looking knife in his hand.

When he stood in front of the two of them, he said in a sad tone, "Well it has been fun, but I have begun to grow a bit bored of you two. And I only have the one room where I can store my toys, so you understand right?

He then jammed the knife into Mason's stomach and made a long horizontal incision. Blood began gushing out of Masons stomach and the man left him hanging there in agony for a few minutes before he slashed across Mason's neck.

Evelyn watched in horror as the life left her brother, the only person she had left in this world, and one of only two people she had ever loved.

She cried profusely, tears washing down her face as she stared at the dead body of her brother.

As the man walked up to her, he said, "Ah now that was a good reaction. Maybe I should try to pick up siblings more often?

"Now just wait a few more minutes and I will send you to see your brother again."

Once he had finished his last words to Evelyn, he sliced across her stomach the same as he did to Mason, and she felt the icy feeling and then burning pain as the knife cut her flesh.

He then left her hanging there in excruciating pain for what seemed like an eternity, before raising his knife up and getting ready to slice her neck.

As she looked at the knife in his hand bracing for the killing blow. Evelyn could have sworn she saw a shadowy figure appear right behind the man when he sliced the knife across her neck, and then everything faded away into nothingness.
