It was 10 o'clock in the morning. The café was full of teenagers and young people. There were some couples sitting quietly occupying their tables being lovey-dovey. Gosh, it's toxic for her eyes, Anna thought. Some of the customers were constantly looking at Theodore. Sigh, such an eye candy he is.
Suddenly she looked towards Theodore while sipping her coffee. He was somewhat in another place. His coffee was left alone by him but he was not paying attention to that. All his attention was towards the crowd of people in the café.
What is he even looking at? Is he silently looking at other women? But he never bothered to look at me before. Am I that ugly?
She couldn't hold her patience anymore.
"Can I ask you a question, Theodore?"
"Go on," he answered without turning his head.
"What the hell are you looking at being so focused?"
"None of your business," he cut it short.
"Then me doing you various services is also not my business," she smirked at him saying that.
This time Theodore had to turn his head. He looked at her dazzling eyes to see whether she was serious or just kidding. But maybe he got the sign by glancing just a bit.
"I am just trying to guess what these people are thinking and matching my thoughts with their next reactions."
Anna laughed as if she had heard something very funny.
"Ahahaha…. What are you? A psychologist?"
"Until I get my Ph.D., I am not."
"Ehhh…. Wait! What? You are preparing to get a Ph.D. in psychology?"
"Human psychology to be exact."
"Oh my God, that was a surprise to me. But to think, you never actually told me what you are up to. Anyways, can I ask what you actually do?"
Theodore was a bit taken aback by hearing that 'what are you up to' part. This girl can unknowingly insult anyone without realizing it.
"I am a doctor. Neurology specialist. I joined the military as a doctor after graduation."
"Oh… I see."
Finally, she got some personal information about this guy. Come to think of it, she also never introduced herself to him. But he also never asked her. To think he answered her with just one question, she should have asked about this to him before.
"Did you also come here today to get help with your thesis?"
"Yes…you can say that. I need a specific report of behavior in each relationship of different continents."
"That will take a loooong time, right? It's quite tough," never did Anna realize observing humans can be so tough and tiring. Suddenly a thought came to her mind.
"Can I also try with you?"
Theodore looked at her expressionlessly and then signaled her to try it out too.
"Look at the right corner of this room, did you see the woman sitting alone?" he asked bending a little closer to her.
"Yes."
"Tell me what she is thinking."
Anna looked in the direction where Theodore pointed his finger to. There was a woman sitting alone on her own without ordering anything. She seemed impatient. She also looked tired because of the heavy dark circles under her eyes.
"She is probably around my age and she is waiting for someone. Probably that person is her lover. Her dark circles say that she didn't have enough sleep for several nights. Maybe…. Maybe her boyfriend wants to break up with her?"
Theodore looked satisfied.
"Hmm... not bad. But it needs more refinement."
Anna twitched her brows.
"How?"
Theodore dragged his chair closer to her and sat beside her.
"Look, her clothes are a bit disheveled. Maybe she didn't get the chance to change her nightclothes. Also, she has nothing but her mobile with her. Probably her lover called her early in the morning to break up all of a sudden and so she asked for an explanation. But it looks like her lover's not gonna show up. Their breakup is one-sided and if I am right, they were in a living relationship but the boy didn't come home last night, in fact, several nights."
Anna was in total awe. This guy just completed reciting an essay about the lady. It was the first time she heard Theodore talk so much in one go.
"But how can you be so sure that they were in a living relationship?"
"Let's see if her lover comes. Then I can be sure."
After waiting for half an hour, a tall and slim guy showed up and sat beside that woman. His back was facing them so they couldn't see his expressions. But they still could say that the discussion between them was not going well. Suddenly Anna realized that the girl was so much accustomed to the boy's actions as if she already knew what he was going to do in the next second. Something like this can only be possible when you are with some 24/7.
Annabelle chuckled thinking about it. This is interesting. Her eyes met with Theodore and he smiled too.
"This is fun!"
"I know," he chuckled too.
This… this was too beautiful. How can someone's each and every expression be this handsome?
"But how did you guess all these before the boy showed up?"
"Her outfit. If she wasn't living with him, she would have dressed up. But they are so accustomed to each other that they don't even bother to do that. Maybe that house they were living in was under her deposit. So, he chose to talk with her outside the house. The girl found out his belongings were missing and then she found out that he..."
Before he could complete his analysis report, that boy suddenly stood up from his chair. They already crossed the limit of quarreling. Their shouts caught the attention of all inside the cafe.
"So that was the reason I couldn't find a single thing of yours from our room, right?" The girl was already on the verge of tears.
"Look, I don't have time for this drama. Just pay me back my portion of the money. I need to move to a new apartment soon," the boy said rudely.
"Then are you going to live with that bitch now?" the girl could no longer hold her tears. She was already whimpering. She tried to hold that boy's hand but he shook his hand vigorously. She couldn't handle the force and fell to the ground.
Suddenly Theodore stood up. Anna was furious too. This was too much. Cheating on her, breaking up with her that way, and then forcing her to give his money back instantly… this was the worst. That's why she hates this. People fall in love but when they don't need that love in their life, they just throw away all those emotions together with the person whom they once dreamed to stay together forever.
The atmosphere was not on the boy's side. All the costumes of the café were looking angrily at him. He thought to sneak away but luck was not on his side today.
"Hey, where do you think you are going?"
Theodore's deep voice cracked like a lightning bolt. It sounded so commanding that the boy had to stop his footsteps.
"Don't you dare to sneak from here before you apologize to the lady."
