"Okay, so Mom, I don't know how to say this but... I'm different. I'm not.... the same Nick you knew a year ago. You see... I'm from the future. I don't know how it happened but the moment I died, I woke back up as my child self. Can you please understand?", I asked, holding Mom's hand.
"That is hard to believe, Nick, you can see that right? Please explain it better, so I can understand.", Mom said, her brows creased, and I could see that she was trying.
"To start with... In my origional 'timeline' I guess, we went to a certain place, thinking it was going to go okay, cause Zootopia is where all of our dreams come true. At least, that's what I thought when you dropped me off there, the place I wanted to go to so bad. It turned ugly the second the lights turned off for initiation, because of the stupid reasoning the kids had, that I was a fox, so I couldn't be trusted. They muzzled me, Mom. They kicked me outside, when you left not thirty minutes after you had left, leaving me bruised, and nearly broken. I.... never saw you again, because an accident happened...", My voice broke, as I remembered the news about a giant collision between forty-seven cars, and Mom died because of it. I sniffed, moving on, not wanting to break down there.
"Twelve years pass, twelve long years, of depression, of me just trying to live my life the way animals expected me to. I bought jumbo pops from the Elephant Ice Cream Parlors, melted them down, and brought them to the tundra biome, and made Pawpcicles for that time daily, to earn a living. I lied, I cheated things, and I got into a hell of a lot of trouble. All up until the day I met a singular little bunny, who was trying to live her dream as a cop, but instead she was put on meter maid duty because the animals thought little of her. We crossed paths when I was doing my daily money making deal, and we'll, things became complicated.", I continued there, and Mom was just quiet the whole time, listening attentively. I could see it in her eyes, though, she was thinking things out.
"That bunny... happened to be Judy, Mom. We solved a missing animal's case, but not just the one she was allowed to do, we found all of the animals they were looking for. But, it didn't end there. There was a scandal going on, and I won't go into all the details, but the end game mastermind of it all was a little sheep. Her name was Belweather, and she was the Mayor's Assistant, where she was making life hell for all of the predators. That was our first case. I became a cop thanks to Judy after that. But now, I'll move onto the last case. The one, and one of the only ones we had failed in. The one that took my life, Judy's life, and all of the lives of the citizens of Zootopia.", I said, and explained that mission thoroughly, up until the end, a pool of tears at my feet.
What I expected was for Mom to deny what I said was real. But instead, Mom pulled me into an embrace, and I could feel her tears as well.
"My boy suffered so much... I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Nick, but you don't have to anymore. You've got me here, and I intend to stay until I'm old and grey, you've got Judy now, as well, okay?.", Mom said, smiling at me, while wiping away the tears from my eyes, before hugging me tightly once more.
"Thank you for telling me, Nick. I believe you, every word of what you said. Just tell me if you ever need help, cause I'll always be here for you. Just promise me one thing.", Mom said, giving me a little smile.
"What is it?", I ask her, tilting my head to the side, not knowing what age could ask.
"Promise me you'll give me tons of grandbabies, alright?!", Mom laughed at my embarrassment, though I somehow knew she said this to cheer me up some. I'm thankful to have a mom as kind as she is.
"Well, if my boy is going to be a future cop, then you better get to practicing! I don't want you to fall behind any criminals, or be too slow to protect your self, or your future wife!", Mom said, gaining a serious tone, and while that comment at the end was embarrassing once again, I felt it was definitely better to be prepared for anything.
==================
It's been four days since I started exercising after my daily bicycle run for the newspaper, and it's been exhausting. My Little body really can't handle much, but I'm getting steadily better, I have more energy to go farther than I did a week before.
I also met Olivia, or otherwise known as a future Mrs. Otterton, and she was kind to me despite me being a fox. It feels nice to have friends, even though I'm mentally older than I should be, it just feels... better, and I like it.
"Hey Nick, wanna play catch?", Olivia asked with a bright smile, and I nodded, running to the other side of her, crouching slightly so I'm just as tall as she is.
Two hours of fun later, we wave goodbye, but not before we exchanged numbers. Other animals looked at us weirdly for some reason though. Strange.
I ran back home, and to an awaiting Mother who was dressed, waiting to go to BunnyBurrow. I ran inside the house, took a quick shower, dressed, than ran back out in record time.
"Let's go!", I say, excited to meet Judy's family, as Mom giggles, and starts the car. It'll be a few hours until we get there, so I closed my eyes, and slept.
