1 Year of Beginning

“Give me one year of your life and I’ll give you the money you need.” Feng Mian is a normal and down to earth modern woman. She just wanted an ordinary life, an ordinary job and find an ordinary man to marry in the future. (Yes, all should be ordinary). But when family matters took a turn for the worst, she faced a huge dilemma called shortage of money. Suddenly, a contract came due to a series of coincidences. Zhang Liang was fed up with his father's (yes, father not mother) matchmaking schemes for him. He wanted to have a peaceful year because this was his chance to expand his business overseas, yet his father didn’t seem to get the message. When an ordinary fresh graduate employee in his company accidentally saw a scene, he decided to take the chance. “Since she has a normal background with nothing remarkable, nothing should go wrong, right?” Browsing through the contract, Feng Mian gritted her teeth. 'Fine. It was just one year of my life anyway. I wouldn't lose a lot.' But was it true? Or would that one year turn out to be a ride full of ups and down for both of them? ... Story set in modern era in fictional country. This story is purely fiction, any similarities with real life's event is purely coincidence. Creating Account for Commission

Feng Mian raised her head. She could see Zhang Liang standing on the door frame. His hands were crossed as he leaned slightly. Even though it was clear that his expression showed his displeasure, his figure was still as handsome as ever. She was not even sure how he could look so handsome every single day.

"Oh, Liang, you're back?" Zhang Yi was stunned. He looked around but could not find a clock in the studio. It seemed that Feng Mian forgot to add one in her studio because she didn't think that she would need it. He looked at the clock in his phone. It was showing at 4 PM.

During this time, Zhang Liang usually is still in his office, doing his work for who knows how much longer.

Zhang Liang sighed. "What are you doing here, Father?"

"I'm visiting my daughter in law! Can't you see that?" Zhang Liang harrumphed. He hadn't visited her for so many days because he was concerned about Zhang Xue! Now his son acted as if he was an uninvited guest.

If the two of them knew what he was thinking, they would surely say that it was absolutely true.

"You should have informed us before."

"You're busy in a meeting. I don't want to bother you," Zhang Yi replied righteously. His expression looked as if his son owed him a great deal for this 'favor.'

Zhang Liang kept his composure. He had seen his father create so many troubles that this couldn't faze him at all. His line of sight landed on the painting that Zhang Yi was looking at.

"Are you showing Father your art?"

"Ah yes," Feng Mian smiled. "He liked it."

"He likes painting, so it's not that weird."

"You brats! You're the one who didn't know the true value of arts!" Zhang Yi pointed to Zhang Liang's face. "Help her create an account and let her start to take commission for doing arts."

Zhang Liang arched his eyebrows. He knew that some artists did that because it was one of the numerous ways for them to start their business. However, with the sheer number of competitors alone, it would be hard for artists to survive just by relying on their work. Many usually also had a lot of other work.

He looked at Feng Mian. "Don't you already have an account in IG?"

"I don't…."

"Not even for your university project?"

"No…"

Now, Zhang Liang was speechless. In this day and age, there were still people who don't use social media? If Feng Mian didn't dabble in arts, he might understand more, but shouldn't it be common sense for Feng Mian to create an account on her own and begin to promote.

"How about FB?"

"I don't have…" Feng Mian replied sheepishly. Seeing the odd expression on Zhang Liang's face, she wished to bury her head on the ground. She was too absorbed in her own work to the point that she didn't have any other social media except for WA that she used to contact her friends.

Zhang Liang sighed. "Lend me your phone."

"Here."

Taking Feng Mian's phone, Zhang Liang first downloaded the App on the phone. In the meantime, he noticed that Zhang Yi was already eyeing the other three canvases that Feng Mian covered with cloth. One was clearly in progress because of the art materials around the canvas, but the other two should be finished.

Zhang Yi pointed to the other two. "Can I see them too?"

"Sure."

Feng Mian pulled the cloth carefully. Seeing the familiar room, Zhang Yi realized that Feng Mian drew the three sunsets at different angles. The position of the sun clearly showed that it was setting down slowly. The shade of the light as it entered the room were all different.

Zhang Yi darted his eyes to the last one as Feng Mian pulled the cloth. His eyes widened when he saw two children at the front, creating sandcastles. It looked like a family trip to the beach, a happy family at that. The view was taken from the front in a slightly difficult way. It was hard to take pictures from that angle because usually, the sun's rays would make the picture bad because it would affect the camera.

"This is…"

"I'm thinking of making drawings of my childhood," Feng Mian admitted. "I want to create several of them to depict it because I think that it'll be good."

Zhang Yi nodded. In the gallery, it was normal for painters to create a series of their paintings to be related to one another. Feng Mian wanted to tell a story of her life, but it was harder to sell paintings like this if they were not well known. This was the reason why many painters started their career by taking small commissions and slowly grew bigger.

It was only later they could be the one to choose what they wanted to draw.

"You have a big dream, Feng Mian."

Feng Mian smiled. Her dream was only to have an exhibition in the future consisting of her own arts. That was her biggest dream because only a known and renowned artist could possibly have an exhibition on their own.

Zhang Liang coughed. "Mian'er, come here for a minute."

"Ah, yes."

"What name do you want to use?"

Feng Mian blinked her eyes. Can't she use her real name? However, thinking about it, she realized that it might be better if she came up with an alias when doing commissions online.

With that, Feng Mian began to think in her mind. In front of her, Zhang Liang waited patiently with her phone in his hand. "Have you decided?"

"Wait… uhm, I want to go with the name Fleeting Wind (Liu Feng)," Feng Mian replied.

Zhang Liang arched his eyebrows. "Alright."

He typed on the phone and verified the account. His action was done speedily to the point Feng Mian was unable to follow his hand's movement at all. In but a few minutes, he handed the phone back to Feng Mian.

"I have made both FB and IG accounts, the password is the same as your phone."

"Okay, eh, wait, how do you know my password?"

(A/N): This is not Sora’s corner

If I’m not wrong, both social accounts were uncommon in China. (I’m not sure since I didn’t live there), but it’s still possible to access using VPN (virtual private network).

The one that’s used most in China is Weibo, Wechat, and so on, but I’m unfamiliar with the layout and how that app worked. (Don’t tell me to make one because I already tried a few times and failed because I’m not in China). In the end, I ended up using a different social media that I’m more familiar with.

*sweat smile* sorry for the inconsistence in the story.
