When the Rain is Made of Teardrops

She stood there, unable to move while trying to absorb what really happened between them. It's been years but why did she feel like she was already too late? She forced her feet to take steps, to go to him but then, she slumped on the floor while reaching for his hand. "Taiki.. I'm here. I'm sorry. I didn't know. I didn't know that you were here. I didn't know—" She cried hard while trying to spit out everything she wanted to tell him. She kissed the back of his cold hand. She missed touching him. She missed him. She badly missed him. "I— Taiki.. I didn't really know. I'm really sorry. I'm sorry for making you wait. I'm sorry for forgetting you. Please, wake up. Please look at me again. Please, Taiki. Please, I'm already here." She continued as she cried harder.

"Love! Let's watch that." She pointed at the newly-released romance movie in the theaters. She stared at the lovers on the poster and smiled like a child, thinking it was him and her. He hugged her from behind and she dragged him to the ticket booth. And then, they got a huge bucket of popcorn and two large drinks.

After watching the movie, they decided to stroll downtown. She looked around, the lights were glimmering as it illuminates her eyes. He held her hand tightly, feeling scared that he might lose her along the way. She chuckled softly while pointing at the things she wanted to buy. He stopped from his tracks and she gave him a questioning look. He will never get tired staring at her beautiful face, that's what he thought that time. He suddenly cupped her cheeks and kissed her lips deeply in the middle of the crowd. She was so surprised with his actions but she eventually kissed him back, a little shy between those kisses.

They ended up resting at the nearest park. She took her seat on the wooden bench and then, he rested his head on her lap. She watched him take a short nap, caressing and running her fingers through his hair. She always loved these moments. It was already midnight when they arrived home. She was tired but she had fun with their movie date. She quickly changed into her pajamas and went to bed. Meanwhile, he was fully awake because he had a short nap.

"Love, wake up." He whispered to her ear and she got annoyed because she just closed her eyes to sleep. She covered her face with the pillows but he threw it away and pulled her in his arms.

"Sato Taiki, I want to sleep. Let me sleep first, okay? Then, you can do whatever you want later." She pushed him away and covered her whole body with blankets. He pouted while watching her sleep after that.

"Senpai." He smiled at the older man who just arrived. He had the need to introduce her to him, so he invited him for a drink. She smiled and bowed her head. She asked the older one if he wanted to order anything but he said that there was no need.

"Senpai, this is Ren. She is the current head of the Lost and Found Department." He introduced her to the older one. He is his current immediate family. The older one also introduced himself. She learned that he has been in police work for almost twenty years. Then, does it mean that he knows him?

"Senpai, you said that you're almost twenty years in police work. Then, do you know a police officer named Sato Taiki?" She asked and he stopped for a while before shaking his head. She felt disappointed. She thought she would be able to know more about him.

"Remember when I had to take a rest for half a year because of an accident?" He suddenly brought up that topic to distract her. Kenta nodded but then, he comforted her by gently patting her back.

"Senpai had six months of rest before. Maybe that police officer worked there within that certain period of time and he wasn't able to meet him." She forced a smile and just nodded. They started drinking until their topic was about Kenta's achievement some years ago.

"He keeps on bragging about his firing skills because he just won second place during the national competition. Look at him now. He can't even hold a gun because of his sanction." The older one laughed and until now, she doesn't know why he got a sanction.

"He shot the culprit on the arm even though there was no evidence of attacking him. He should not hold guns anymore." He smacked his head and he complained about it. Of course, it was against the firing rules for a police officer. Both men started playing, posing like they were shooting each other and with sound effects. Her head started to ache as she dropped the glass on the table.

"What's wrong?" Kenta asked worriedly and she just told him that she was having a headache. She closed her eyes for a while and she had a quick episode in her mind on what happened during that incident. He thought that she needed rest already, so he excused themselves and paid for the bill. He hailed a cab for them and then, he gave her address to the driver.

"I can still drink though." She mumbled with her eyes closed. He rested her head on his shoulder and just asked her to sleep. She chuckled softly and nodded. At least, she didn't need to pay for everything that night.

They arrived in front of her house after half an hour. She didn't know that Taiki was there, so when they kissed goodnight, he just looked away and turned his back on them. He couldn't bear to see her in someone else's arms. He slowly disappeared in the dark and then, he went to see Sekai. The older one noticed how pale he was. He knew that he was using his powers too much and if he would continue to use it recklessly, he would perish sooner. They didn't talk but he could feel the pain he was carrying while crying silently. Who would be happy if the one you loved the most is in someone else's arms already?

She was already asleep when he visited her again. He watched her sleep as that was what he always did before. He asked Sekai earlier for a favor. He asked him to see Ren at the café where they celebrated her graduation for finishing her years in the police academy. Her phone vibrated and he saw that Sekai finally sent her the address. He disappeared after that. When she woke up the next day, she saw the text message and quickly prepared for their date. It's been a while since she had dates with her brothers.

When she arrived at the place, she smiled widely on how aesthetic it is. She looked around and enjoyed the ambiance it gave her until her eyes caught a certain spot. She walked toward it and saw the hanging polaroid photos. She looked at it one by one and she froze when she saw a photo of herself. Her hand trembled while taking it. She covered her mouth and her memories of him started to play in her mind. She turned around and saw him standing there. He smiled faintly and she started crying.

"Love.." She called him and he started crying as well. She tried to touch him but she failed. How could she forget him? How could she forget her love for him? How could she forget the memories they shared together? She cried harder as she kept trying to touch him. The pain filled her heart and frustrations grew along with it.

"Love.. Taiki.. Why.." She kept on asking him why and Sekai finally arrived. He saw her crying hard, so he pulled her in a hug and let her pour out her feelings. She hugged him tightly, wishing it was Taiki.

"Aniki, why did I forget him?" She kept on asking that question as she cried harder. She gripped on the photo tightly and Taiki tried to hold her hand. He smiled faintly when his hand went through hers. Their fate must be that cruel.
