When the Rain is Made of Teardrops

She stood there, unable to move while trying to absorb what really happened between them. It's been years but why did she feel like she was already too late? She forced her feet to take steps, to go to him but then, she slumped on the floor while reaching for his hand. "Taiki.. I'm here. I'm sorry. I didn't know. I didn't know that you were here. I didn't know—" She cried hard while trying to spit out everything she wanted to tell him. She kissed the back of his cold hand. She missed touching him. She missed him. She badly missed him. "I— Taiki.. I didn't really know. I'm really sorry. I'm sorry for making you wait. I'm sorry for forgetting you. Please, wake up. Please look at me again. Please, Taiki. Please, I'm already here." She continued as she cried harder.

"Can you help me with these?" She asked when he arrived at work, showing him a box full of newly-delivered items. He carried it down to the storage room and placed it down on the table. She sorted it first and then, placed it in the designated sections.

"What is this? There's no item number." He asked while holding a small wooden box. He shook it gently to know if there was something inside but since it was a lightweight one, he didn't know. He also tried to open it but he couldn't do so.

"Let me try opening it." She said and then, he handed the box to her. She furrowed her brows when she felt a headache coming. She ignored it and tried to open it but she also couldn't. He grabbed it back and tried once again but he failed.

"Kaichou, Kenta-san, we will go now. It's already six." Masahiro suddenly popped out from nowhere and she smiled at him while nodding. He placed down the wooden box on the table and urged her to finish work early since they have been staying late for the past few weeks.

They turned the lights off and locked the doors before leaving. While walking in the hallways, a figure passed by and she stopped from her tracks. She turned her head to look at him but he just continued on walking. Kenta asked her what was wrong but she just shook her head and followed him outside the headquarters. The man stopped on his spot and looked at them. He pursed his lips while staring at her retreating figure.

"I will have dinner with my family tonight. You don't need to drive me home." She said when they arrived outside. He smiled and nodded as he pulled out his car keys to open the door. He watched her get inside the cab and then, he finally went back home.

Meanwhile, the man just arrived at the archives of the headquarters. He could hear footsteps. He looked where it came from and then, he found someone looking for some files from the organizer. He stared at him while watching him rip a page from the file. The other man reorganized the files and then, he left. He read the file label and all he could do is form a bitter smile on his lips.

Another week had passed and the Director decided to have a team building. They attended the meeting and the Director assigned them to search for the venue. Kenta was so pissed since he knew that they purposely gave that task to them because most of the venues they know are already reserved. It will be her first time after years to have a team building, so she didn't know that it would be like that.

"Stop complaining. We should look for a larger venue instead." She said annoyingly while sitting on the wooden bench and holding a bottle of water. The weather is a little hot, so they took a short break before looking for a venue again.

"If you didn't let them, we would not be here." He said and she smacked him with the bottle of water. He glared at her and she stuck her tongue out before getting up to walk around the place again. He groaned and stomped on the ground before following her.

He grabbed her hand and held it gently. She looked at him with a raised brow and he just smiled at her like a child. She didn't mind him holding her hand though. They walked around the place but people started to think that they were a couple, so she let his hand go. The old woman suggested another place, so they went there to see if it would be the perfect place for the team building. She smiled when they arrived there. The owner toured them around and she was satisfied with the outcome.

"It's already getting dark. We should go home now." He said while looking up at the skies. She shook her head and sat on the bench under the huge tree. He raised a brow as he felt like he already knew what she wanted at that time.

"Don't tell me we will sleep here?" He couldn't believe that she just nodded her head. She pointed in a direction and grinned widely. He sat beside her and rested his head on her shoulder but she shoved him away.

"Buy dinner for us." She pushed him off his seat and she received another glare from him. He unwillingly went to the nearest convenience store to buy food and drinks for them. He reminded himself to buy mosquito coils that will last for the entire night.

She looked up at the night sky and smiled at the stars. A cold breeze passed by and she closed her eyes as it touched her face. Then, she almost screamed when a figure suddenly appeared in front of her. She took deep breaths to calm herself and the man smiled faintly at her. He wanted to touch her but he couldn't. He almost cried. He missed her so much already but he couldn't do anything.

"Who are you?" She asked and he gave her another faint smile. Tears fell from his eyes and she panicked a bit. Does it mean the man in front of her is a real human? She stood up from her seat but he took steps backward.

"I will not harm you." She said but he shook his head. He clenched his fists tight. He shouldn't touch her. He shouldn't talk to her. He shouldn't answer her questions. She approached him and reached for his face to wipe his tears but her hand just passed through him.

"You're.." She couldn't finish her sentence, taking steps backward since she started to feel scared. More tears fell from his eyes and he finally disappeared from her sight. She looked at her hand, feeling a little cold because of the man.

"He's not a human." She mumbled to herself and she jolted from her spot when someone tapped her shoulder. She sighed in relief when it was just Kenta. He showed her the bag that contained their dinner for that night.

"Something happened?" He asked since she was acting weird again. She shook her head and smiled. She took the bag from him and took out the food boxes. He helped her open each box and then, he handed her a new bottle of water.

"Do you believe in ghosts?" She suddenly asked while they were having dinner. He shook his head since he hadn't seen one. To see is to believe, as they say. It was her first time to have something that he had, his confidence in not believing ghosts.

"I watched a drama last week. The girl in the drama can see ghosts and then, she helps the ghosts to know who killed them." She started and he just listened to her. He doesn't know what to tell her since he doesn't believe it was from a drama.

"Then, after the first ghost, there is another ghost. She thought that the ghost was a human because it was her first time seeing a crying ghost." She chuckled softly and he stopped from eating, staring at her. She looked at him and asked him what was wrong.

"You can see ghosts?" He asked but she chose to lie about it. She thought that he would call her weird again if she confessed to him that she can see ghosts. She twisted the cap of the water bottle and had a sip.

"I will believe you if you tell me that you can see ghosts." He added and she stared at him. She could see in her peripheral view that the man was there again. This time, he wasn't crying anymore. At least, this relieved her.
