CONFRONTING THE PAST

AUTHOR'S POV:

Flashback

It's been five years since little Blair made it to the slums, even though she was young she learned survival skills from her father so it was a bit easy for her to survive in the open world. She barely spoke she either nodded or shook her head when asked a question so she was referred to as a dumb child.

No one adopted her from the shelter because she behaved strangely but she had children almost her age who treated her nicely, They introduced her to the metal finding work which they did to get their daily meal. She joined them and made good money, but her joy wasn't for long.

Ethan was a guy in his teens, every child in the shelter saw him as an elder brother except Blair, he liked Blair and always helped her whenever she was being bullied.

As years went by Blair began to trust him, She doubted her father's word of the world being unkind and for once she felt like she belonged one night she decided to spill everything to Ethan including her real name and about being a hybrid but things went haywire.

She was fast asleep when she felt a rough hand grab her and before she could free herself she was subdued, she recognized them in a glance, their uniform was similar to the ones who killed her father and tried to kill her.

She looked at him as they dragged her out only to see Ethan smiling as he spoke to a guy wearing a similar uniform and when she screamed for help, he ignored her completely. It was then it dawned on Blair that she had been sold and betrayed by her friend, her first friend.

PRESENT DAY

BLAIR'S POV

"Hi Blair" I turned back to see HIM! I wasn't fourteen anymore "Hi Ethan" I replied, my fist connecting with his cheek. I twisted his wrist, pinning him to the cab door.

"We need to talk" he managed to say, his eyes widened with fear.

It was sad to let my prey go but I had to, who knows he might just lead me directly to the motherfucker council leader.

We walked to an open café across the street in silence. Ethan looked different, his muscles bulging, facial hair framing his rough skin. Life hadn't been kind to him. "You're all grown up, Blair," he said, his eyes filled with a mix of nostalgia and guilt. I gave him a side-eye, my expression unyielding.

"Cut the small talk, Ethan. What do you want?" I asked bluntly, my anger simmering beneath the surface. My scowled face was enough to convince him I wasn't ready for any petty chitchat.

"Erhm I am sorry Blair"

I stood up before he could finish up his apology, I didn't sacrifice my night of fun just to listen to a stupid apology from a stupid fellow.

"Please, don't leave I won't apologize again, I have something to tell you" he pleaded

"Spill and don't call me Blair, you have lost the right to call me that, you can call me Vee" I blurted in anger.

He hesitated before speaking, his eyes darting around the café. "They're coming for you, Blair. They know where you are. That's how I found you."

"Wait! So I am supposed to believe that from someone who sold me in the past?" I said interrupting him

"Bla.. Sorry Vee this is serious, I know you are not happy with me but I am looking out for you here. Vee, you have to listen to me" he said, from his voice I could tell he was serious and I could see the fear in his eyes. I was tired of running, I was tired of moving, it either I confront them or I keep running my whole life because that old fool the council leader never seems to get tired.

My eyes narrowed, my grip on his wrist tightening. "You expect me to believe you, after what you did?"

Ethan's eyes pleaded for forgiveness. "I know I can't undo what's been done, but I'm trying to make it right. You have to listen to me, Blair."

My anger boiled over, but I forced myself to remain calm. "What's your proposal, Ethan?"

"Okay what's your way out, because the only way out now is helping me kill the council leader," I said sarcastically

"Blair it's more serious than you think and I can't kill the council leader, It's impossible and my way out is to join us" he muttered

"Don't call me Blair you son of a bitch, I swear I would rip your tongue from your throat if you keep calling me that" I blurted out furiously

"I am sorry" he apologized

"So back to business, I am tired of this conversation it's getting boring, so what did you mean when you said join us," I asked

"We call ourselves the ROGANS and we can help protect you, show you the strength you possess and when I told our leader you were a hybrid, he went…

Before he could complete his sentence, he was already off the seat, I pounced on him throwing punches from cheek to cheek, how dare he go around telling people I was a hybrid. He managed to push me off his body and I was happy he did because we were starting to attract attention. Humans love drama but I wasn't ready to satisfy them now.

My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with possibilities. "What's in it for you, Ethan?"

He looked at me, his eyes sincere. "Redemption?"

"It has nothing to do with redemption, You can hit me all you want but I want to do right by you, We cannot only protect you but we can help kill him" he muttered trying to stop blood from running down his lips, I wanted to be sure I heard him right.

"You mean you can help me kill the council leader?"
