Chapter 20: Thank you for everything, Mrs. Foyer

A place that screams silence. The mid-morning light under the dark cloudy sky as the wind rustles the browned leaves. People gathered dressed in black as they take turns and put their flowers in front of a gravestone. Cries were heard as Lilith is hiding behind a wide tree trunk that its boughs were twisted. People slowly disappear and the gravestone is left by one person around his mid thirties. Lilith, dressed in black coat and dress walked and passed the gravestones lined in an eerie graveyard.

Lilith shot Mrs. Foyer's son a subtle smile as she glanced down on a gravestone. "My deepest and most sincere condolences and may the soul of your mother rest in peace." Lilith said as she glanced at Mrs. Helen's son that was just staring at the gravestone of her mother. She looked at Lilith and gave her a subtle smile, his tears were flowing out. They both stare at the gravestone and let the silence fill between them.

"Your mother is a great psychotherapist. Been with her for counseling, she helped me to believe in myself again" said Lilith, staring at Mrs. Foyer's gravestone. Even Mrs. Foyer is a counselor, she felt a connection to her. The words that Mrs. Foyer said invades in mind, tears flowed out in her eyes.

"You know," Mrs. Foyer's son said, Alastair. "She is a great mother. I love her so much, I still remember how she helped me when I'm questioning myself. She was there when I needed help but. I wasn't there when she needed me." Alastair's tears flowed again. A love of his mother is seen in his eyes. "The last thing we did was... we had a fight through the phone call. She wants me to come home but I couldn't, I choose work over her. Work is important to me but.. " Alistair wiped his tears. "I want to surprise her by coming home unannounced but I didn't know it was already our last talk. The last time I heard her voice. " He continued.

Lilith hold her tears back after hearing those words, she felt the son's love of his mother. Alistair Foyer doesn't deserve this. She just realize that Mrs. Foyer is all alone in the house despite being engulfed with loneliness, she is kind and didn't let her sadness affect other people. Instead of being affected, she face the world with a smile.

"When I was little, I still remember how she made jokes that isn't funny enough when I'm sad. I know she is trying her best just to make me laugh. " Mrs. Foyer son said between in his sobs.

"Her smile that made me feel she is there when I needed her. She gave me strength. I love my mother so much that thinking she is dead wants me to think everything was a nightmare. A nightmare that I want to wake up, she is a kind of mother that everyone wants to have."

Lilith rubbed Alistair's back, letting it out. Lilith put the flowers before Mrs. Helen Foyer's gravestone. "How nice to have a mother like that"

Alistair nodded, "She persisted me to come home but I told her my work is important, I miss my mother and now, I regret of not coming home and ends up in a fight. The guilt of choosing work over her makes me think I'm such a bad son to him. That's why.. " Alistair looked at Lilith, "you have to cherish every moment with your mother. They are the one who made us, made us happy and is there for us when we needed them the most" and looked at the gravestone of his mother again.

"Mom, I'm sorry for everything.. I'm so.. sorry.." He said as he cries, Lilith couldn't hold her tears, she joined with Alistair and cried silently.

"I know you hate seeing me cry, Mom. I regret the things that I've done. I never got to talk to you and hold you even in my arms. I'm going to miss your embrace. Anyway.." Alistair wiped his tears off, "If you were here, I know you are already annoyed of seeing me cry. I'll be okay eventually, Mom." He took a deep breath. "Rest easy, Mom" The silence filled between them.

Lilith wiped her tears off, hearing the words from Mrs. Foyer's son. Alistair looked at Lilith, "Do you have anything to say to my mother? I'm sure she would love to hear it"

Lilith smiled and nodded, she stared at the gravestone and take her moment. Helen Foyer it reads.

"Mrs. Foyer, you are such a great counselor. I already felt that we have this mother and daughter relationship. Thank you for everything. During our counseling, your words helped me and I promised that I will bury them in mind." Lilith said and wiped her tears again, "Mrs. Foyer, rest easy." Alistair subtly smiled, "I'm sure she is happy hearing that words from you" Lilith shot him back with a smile. They both stand in front of Helen Foyer's gravestone and let the silence filled between them.

"I should go now", Lilith said and looked at Alistair Foyer that is still glancing down on his mother's gravestone. After the words he let go and the words that he wants his mother to hear, his face expresses deep grief and sorrow. He looked at Lilith and gave her a smile.

"Remember of what my mother said to you, I'm sure it will helped you as much as how she helped me. " and glanced back at his mother's gravestone. Lilith gave him a subtle smile.

"I will.."

Lilith stared at the gravestone.

"I will bury those words in mind, thank you for everything Mrs. Foyer" she said to herself.

She pulled her coat tighter and slowly walked herself out and let the cold breeze pierced on Lilith's face.
