What Now?

I was debating giving Andrea my Enhanced Regeneration skill but I decided against it, I didn't even know if it would work.

I focused my attention on my environment.

The zombies kept piling in from the woods, surrounding the group of survivors as they desperately fought back.

When I stood up from the ground I picked up my bow and began to scan the crowd of zombies for any abnormalities.

There were a few that were wielding weapons, rocks and branches nothing too serious, I took them out first.

I continued to take out any walker that got too close and handing Daryl filled magazines whenever I could.

I know it was probably wrong to think like this in the situation we were in, but I honestly felt quite alive.

Shooting arrow after arrow into the skulls of the undead as they shambled towards us really got my heart beating, I loved the feeling.

The herd thinned out quite a bit after twenty minutes of continuous shooting.

Daryl had switched back to his cross bow at some point and was taking out the further ones. Amy was shooting the ones that got too close since her aim had developed enough to hit closer targets by this point.

Glenn, Morales and T-Dog were covering the far sides with melee weapons since the shotguns they had grabbed were long since out of ammunition.

Sophia and Carol were huddled with Lori by Mr side, most likely traumatized by all they had seen in the last twenty minutes, Carl stood beside them with his knife ready, though he was shaking rather profusely.

Everyone else was huddled against the side of the RV, everyone that wasn't already dead that is.

Ed was likely dead since he was the first to go in the series. I had seen Jim go down, along with a group of people I didn't know very well.

I had seen two people who were bitten hiding amongst the group huddled nearby but I didn't have the time to deal with them.

Dale had somehow managed to get on top of the RV and finally started shooting his rifle.

It was then that my Beastial Senses picked up something behind me.

I quickly turned to see Merle running off into the woods with a metal bar attached to his wrist.

I decided to let him go since I could probably get Daryl to track him down later if the need arises. He was scum anyway and I didn't really want him around.

There were around twenty walkers left as they pushed through the corpses of their brethren to get to us.

It was at this point that Rick and Shane came charging into the camp and firing shots off at the walkers. Morgan followed behind them while keeping Duane close by his side.

The rest of the hoard was quickly dealt with this way and a reunion ensued.

Rick hugged his family with a dumbfounded look on his face, Amy finally broke down and cried while hugging her sister, Shane took out his anger on the corpses as he made sure there were none left alive.

By this point everyone was exhausted, there weren't many people left, so those that were still alive spent the night in the cars. They felt safer that way.

I had brought Andrea back to my van, Dale didn't even complain once, I had put her on the makeshift bed where she stayed all night.

Amy didn't leave her side, she stayed, holding her remaining hand.

I only managed to get about an hour of shut eye due to the feelings welling up inside me.

I felt stupid for letting myself believe we were safe, just because it didn't happen how I thought it would, didn't mean that it wouldn't happen.

I felt guilty for not being able to keep Amy from the pain she was in. I felt useless for not protecting what I claimed as mine.

I didn't have a hero complex, I knew that, but that didn't mean I wouldn't help when I could. It felt like my responsibility since I had the power to do so.

By the time morning came everyone had started to move their tired bodies out from the cars to deal with the state of the camp.

Rick and Shane took charge and said that we would burn the walkers and bury the dead.

I took walker duty since I didn't want to be reminded of the people that had died last night.

The overall atmosphere of the group was depressing, everyone was tired but we needed to deal with the corpses since the heat was climbing.

Everyone was pretty irate, Daryl and Glenn started arguing and I had to split them up.

The man and woman who survived the bite last night had surprisingly come forward. It turns out that they were in a relationship and had decided to leave together and spend the remainder of their lives wandering the forest as an undead.

This hit me differently. I understood wanting to be with the one you love, even in death, but I would never want to be a walking corpse.

If I were bitten I'd want to spend my last day doing something meaningful, then I would off myself and ask to be buried by anyone who was around.

Most of the group got all sentimental when they decided to leave, some even broke down in tears.

I didn't even know the two who were leaving, so I continued with moving the bodies.

I had already scanned everyone to see their condition, those two were the only ones that were bitten.

Daryl had thrown a bit of a tantrum at the world when he realised that Merle had run off during the chaos.

I left him to it, but Rick and Shane had to put their two cents in, which caused Daryl's mood to worsen.

He came to my side and helped me move the bodies, planting a pickaxe into the head of every one we moved.

We didn't talk, we didn't need to. I could tell he just wanted to work it out in his head. I think he appreciated the gesture since we stayed working in tandem for the rest of the morning.

Carol had come over just as we were about to drag away her husband, she was crying which surprised me.

Though he was her husband, he was quite obviously abusive. Even going as far as to abuse his daughter going by the quite obvious bruises on her wrists. He was like shit on my shoe and I'm honestly quite glad that I managed to scrape him off.

I'm not sure what was going on in Carol's head but she seemed to take it out on the corpse of her late husband.

She demolished his skull, repeatedly smashing the pickaxe into his head while she cried and moaned.

Daryl looked a bit disturbed by the sight, though as she walked away he looked at the woman with a look of understanding.

We worked away in the sweltering heat, burning the walkers and driving the dead campers up to the top of the hill to bury.

They seemed to be having some sort of funeral for them.

It was then that I heard a shout from Amy and ran down to the van, gun in hand.

As I rounded the corner, expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised.

I lowered my gun as I saw a weak Andrea giving Amy a hug.

I approached the sisters, ready to apologize for what I did.

"Andrea I'm sorry. It was the only thing I could think of to stop the spread of the infection." I said as I approached with apprehension.

Amazingly she merely smiled at my words.

"You shouldn't be sorry, Leon. Instead I should be thanking you for saving my life... I'm glad Amy has found such an amazing person to lean on in a time like this."

The smile didn't leave her face the entire time she spoke. Amy hadn't lifted her head till then either.

She wasn't blushing hard, though she was quite pink, it seemed she had accepted that she was my woman now.

I left the girls to rest, feeling relieved that Andrea had survived through this ordeal.

I didn't really like her but she was important to Amy, so I'm glad she was alright.

I approached Rick, Shane and Lori who were having a rather heated argument by the RV.

"I was just telling Shane that we need to trust your gut." Lori said as she distanced her self from Shane.

It seemed like they were talking about whether to go to Fort Benning of the CDC, I knew they would go to the CDC which was quite good for me.

They had tonnes of resources: Food, books, knowledge, the list was rather extensive.

Rick and Shane then went off to sweep through the woods around the camp.

I saw Dale follow them in and I knew what was happening, I wanted no part of it so I went back towards my van to make sure everything was in order.

I even started to copy the parts like the wheels and wing mirrors, the radiator hose and fuel line. Things that had a tendency to break.

By the time I had finished Rick and Shane were back and they called everyone into the centre of camp.

"Look, I've been thinking about Rick's plan." Shane started once everyone had gathered. "There are no guarantees, either way I'll be the first one to admit that. I've known this man for a long time... I trust his instincts. The most important thing here is that we need to stay together."

Shane and Lori exchanged a look when he said that, he should really try to forget about her.

"For those of you that agree we leave first thing in the morning."

Everyone moved out after that. They all started packing things into the backs of the vehicles, mine included.

I had plenty already but I didn't mind storing the majority of the group's water containers as well.

The rest of the day was rather uneventful. I spent time with Amy and Andrea, redressing her wound in the process. I knew what to do in that type of situation but it was still hard to do.

I didn't take off the old gauze as the blood had leaked through and I didn't want to pull out a clot. I just took off the bandages and replaced them with clean ones.

Dale eventually came over to visit, much to Amy's dismay. He convinced Andrea to go to the RV with him and I gave her some extra bandages to dress her arm herself tomorrow.

It would still need constant checking to ensure it doesn't become infected but that will come about later.

Amy and I spent the night in the van, I was too tired to even think of doing anything so we just enjoyed each other's embrace and slept soundly.

When we woke up in the morning, everyone was ready to move out.

Shane was explaining to everyone how to communicate on the road.

I had a CB which I had copied from Rick's cop car so I switched it to channel 40 like Shane had suggested.

Morales and his family left to find their family and Rick gave him a gun before everyone moved out of camp.

The time spent on the road was quite swell. It was just me and Amy in the van since everyone was in their own cars, it was nice to just drive with a beautiful woman on my arm.

*HONK*

A horn came from up ahead which forced us to stop.

The RV's radiator hose had finally given out.

Shane decided to go ahead since he seemed to see something off in the distance.

I helped Dale try and fix his hose with a role of duct tape that I had pasted.

We managed to get it running and Shane came back with very little in the way of gas.
