Chapter 5: Training

Drip Drip Drip

The sound of dripping sweat could be heard rippling out, as Bridget could be seen struggling to do push-ups. The celebration of Bridget deciding to stay was short-lived. As soon as Bridget said this, Hedrick quickly told Bridget to meet him in the lower deck. Before instructing him to do pushups.

Hedrick watched Bridget struggle to do push-ups in complete silence, he stared at Bridget's wobbly arms, until he grinned and spoke. " While I explain the rules of the navy to you, keep doing push-ups, if, for some reason, you stop doing push-ups, I'll start explaining the rules from the start once more. " Bridget nodded while pushing up from the floor, Hedrick let out a small cough, before speaking.

" The rules of being a part of the Navy are quite simple. You must always follow the orders of the world government, and protect innocent civilians. You can use any weapon, no matter how odd it is. You must be willing to sacrifice yourself for the greater good and be- " Before Hedrick could keep speaking, Bridget suddenly collapsed on the floor, making a loud thud ripple through the lower deck.

" Start again. Next time don't fall, or we'll be here all day. "...

An hour has passed since Hedrick started explaining the rules of the Navy, and finally, Bridget endured the long dragged-out speech long enough to stop doing push-ups. Bridget leaned on the wall of the ship, his arms completely numb. Hedrick had walked up the stairs, leaving the lower deck. But before he left, Hedrick had told Bridget, to stay in the lower deck until the ship left the port.

Bridget truthfully didn't understand why, he had to stay in the lower deck, but he didn't question it. Instead, he decided to use this time to rest. He sat there breathing heavily, before the sound of footsteps walking down the stairs, rippled out. And Emily appeared holding onto folded-up clothes.

Bridget glanced at the clothes before Emily spoke in a tired voice. " You better appreciate these clothes I got you, I had to get them custom-made for you. " Bridget nodded, while gingerly standing up. He reached out grabbing onto the pure white clothes, the clothes were a classic navy uniform, however unlike most Navy outfits, there wasn't a marking on it. Bridget quickly took the clothes, gently placing them on the floor next to him.

The lower deck grew quiet until Emily asked Bridget a question. " So? How is the training with Hedrick going? " Bridget just shrugged, before responding. " It's fine, my arms hurt but that is all. " Emily grinned before she spoke once more. " Well you better enjoy it, Hedrick is currently in the port, buying blades. And trust me once you get a blade, the real training starts. "

Bridget looked at Emily confused, but she didn't say anymore, instead, she just walked away, walking up the stairs leaving Bridget to his lonesome. Bridget stood motionlessly in the quiet room while his mind raced, trying to remember all that Hedrick had said while he did push-ups. During the speech Hedrick gave, he explained to Bridget, the ranks of the Navy, telling him what an admiral is, and also what a warlord is. He also explained the lower ranks of the navy, but most importantly, Hedrick asked Bridget what weapon, he wanted to use. The answer to that question was quite obvious, a knife. Bridget wanted to use a knife, mainly because he was used to it, and figured it would be the easiest weapon for him to learn.

But after another hour, Bridget felt the ship, undocking from the port, he felt the waves under him gently crashing into the hull of the ship, echoing throughout the lower deck. Wood creaked, as the ship rocked back and forth, but that wasn't the only noise Bridget heard, light footsteps rippled out, as Hedrick walked down the stairs.

Holding onto two blades, one far smaller than the other. Bridget could only glance at the brown sheath before Hedrick tossed the small blade at him, the blade flipped wildly in the air, until Bridget snagged onto it, right before it landed on the floor. The blade was around 20 inches long, but even for Bridget, the blade was light, the sword's weight was evenly distributed, but most importantly, the hilt of the sword felt exactly like a knife.

Bridget stared at the sword confused, until Hedrick spoke. "It's a messer. I understand you prefer using knives but a sword is simply far more formidable than a knife. They are stronger and have a greater range, and for someone of your size, you need to have all the range you can have. " Bridget nodded before Hedrick spoke once again. " But the real training starts now. Until you land a blow on me, you will not be allowed to leave the lower deck. So, get ready kid. Your real training starts now. "...
