Chapter 6: Witness a Miracle

Calming myself down, I took slow deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling at a steady pace.

I sat down on the floor to explore my next steps. This room appeared to exist outside of time, compared to the reality on the other side. My mind jumped, racing through what just transpired a few minutes earlier.

Did I really crush that carriage? A rush of excitement flooded through me as I watched the carriage implode. I was in control of everything and nothing could stop me.

Immediately, I stood up, reached for the neck of my shirt and pulled it over my head and tossed it in front of me. Staring down at my stomach, I was confused why there was muscle and a six pack, where a slight beer belly from my evening drinks was supposed to be. Looking at my arms, they were slightly toned and more muscular than before.

Shaking my head and smiling, I forced myself to change focus and continue learning about my magic.

Just like before, I spread my hand out in front, staring deeply at the shirt lying on the ground, slowly closing my hand into a fist, imagining the shirt compacting on itself. The shirt slowly started receding like a crawling slug, as it scrunched up on itself, and finally compressed tightly into a ball.

My mouth dropped, this was magic!

But, if this isn't reality, how can I still use magic? Ignoring that thought, I impatiently started thinking of furthering my experiments. I was curious about all my abilities and limitations.

I spent what seemed like hours attempting experiments on my magic. I manifested a gust of wind that rolled the t-shirt ball, by thinking of the tiny particles of air and swatting them together with an imaginary palm.

I created a lightsaber just like Harry, raising it out from my pointer finger, but there was no effect when swiping at the shining orange screen in front of me. I even found I could jump really high when focusing mana on my leg muscles, and when adding mana to my ankles and feet, it allowed me to hop around like I was stepping on the moon.

Attempting different methods for flying, I couldn't seem to get it right. I tried using wind, but my whole body seemed to be aerodynamic and just wobbled in the battering wind. Maybe it was too soon to figure this out.

Switching gears, I thought of creating water. I started by just thinking 'water', but that didn't have any effect. Perhaps, I should think of the elements being placed together? I imagined two hydrogen and one oxygen atoms being forced together. Adding onto the thought, I built an imaginary factory that was spitting out these bonds at ever increasing speeds.

Pointing my palm out, water slowly seeped out of my skin, as the pressure increased and a thin stream sprang out shooting water a few feet. I closed my fist to stop the water, but it kept coming out! I had to disassemble the imaginary factory, for the flow to finally stop. Perhaps wind and fire traits were easier to create and control as they better relate to my emotions? Or maybe I just wasn't adept at proper flow?

Not satisfied with the weak stream, I constructed a giant towering dam holding back a deep sea of water, as I gently opened the release valve. Holding my palm out in the air again, I imagined the water fleeing for freedom unrestricted. The sounds of burbling water escaped from my hand as a huge swell of water erupted, gushing out many meters into the distance, fading the screen as mist invaded its space, and slowly disappeared far out of the screen's illumination. Holding my ground with mana enhanced footing, both arms were struggling to remain steady. Closing the imaginary valve, the force of water dissipated into a trickle, and then stopped completely.

Chills ran down my spine. The destructive force of water was shocking all on its own.

It appeared my traits were similar to both Harry's and Dean's, but seeing as how Dean was unable to replicate what Harry did, perhaps the color of their aura determined their abilities? If that was the case, then why was I able to do both? Did I have a unique aura color?

Trying to look at myself from all kinds of weird angles, I didn't see any aura.

The questions were piling up again, but I knew that a strong imagination allowed me to perform these miracles. I was excited to continue trying things, but I had more important matters to think about.

Just before I was warped into this void, I had readied myself to give hope to the people of Sarconia. I had no plan, but now that I've had time to think about it. They were scared, and were most likely doomed to be refugees at this point. From knowledge back in my world, I knew far too well how refugees are treated even in modern times, much less in a time with aristocrats who trample their own subjects.

If I can show them that 'the ancients', who I will claim to be, are friendly and want to advance their society, perhaps they would stay and help build a new kingdom.

A smile erupted in my face. Stretching my shoulders and cracking my neck, I stared down at the screen in front of me.

"Convert," the word left my lips.

The screen changed as I had hoped, and I took a moment before continuing…

"Magic, Engineer, Genius", I spoke confidently into the void. Just as before, the screen vanished and it asked me to accept rewards again.

[Success]

Would you like to receive your reward?

(Yes) (No)

Shaking my head, I calmly stressed, "Hell no."

Smoke sprang up from all sides engulfing me, as my body floated downward into the void, I could feel reality creeping up on me, and just as my vision went blank an image of a giant smile and two golden eyes gazed into me, as I popped back in front of the city.

Seeing all the faces still staring directly at me, I noticed myself still shirtless in this reality, when a plop was heard on the ground, as my t-shirt slowly unfurled itself. Slightly turning red, I ignored the embarrassing situation, and continued where I left off.

"Join us, the lost ancients, as we help you build a new kingdom!"

Like it was perfectly queued, one shot popped off, thundering against the city walls, launching a towering white column from the ground and into the night sky, as the moonlight reflected a yellow hue onto it. Then, two more pops and columns appeared, then ten, until all seventy-two white columns filled the sky.

The echoing sounds of shots bounced across the city walls and sped off into the forest. The commoners flinched at every pop, some taking a step back, legs shaking and too scared to run.

As the bottom of each white column rose up, a person appeared like a curtain was lifted. These ancients were screeching in confusion, others gawking in awe, a few crying, some with confidence in their eyes. Ages seemed to vary from young to old, both male and female.

As I turned back to the commoners, they fell to their knees, too scared to look up.

"These people who I have called here are the same as you, with history and knowledge," my voice continued to announce.

"Those who stay will witness a new age, please gather your strength and stand up, nobility will no longer exist in this kingdom!"

Harry, who was in tears, jumped up and yelled, "To a new age!"

Gathering courage, the commoners slowly rose to their feet one by one.

I swung around and faced the people of my era who were obviously confused, seeing me shirtless roaring with enthusiasm, as they peeked around at the other ancients who were teleported as they had been.

"Welcome everyone, I wish we could talk under better circumstances, but the short answer to your question is, yes, we are in a new world, similar to the middle ages.", I said avoiding the topic of magic, until they have caught their bearings.

A commotion sprung out from the seventy-two individuals who had been spread out all the way to the forest and were making their way in closer.

I motioned to quiet down, and continued, "The King of this land was killed just moments ago, and we will be taking refuge in the city, which has already been partially evacuated. You are free to move on your own, or stay together with us as a group."

Metal creaking floated through the air, as I swung my head towards the city gates. A thunderous boom rang out, as the gate broke off and fell to the ground, lifting dust and burnt grass particles high into the air, with small vortices spinning the debris out of the exit.

Dean could be seen standing tall near the exit as he raised his hand and showed a thumbs up.

"The gate is reopened! We will hold a meeting tomorrow at high noon, please join us to discuss our next steps together!"

It was somewhat anticlimactic as everyone on both sides were still in shock, staring blankly, as I walked over to pick up my t-shirt, stretching it out to put it back on.

All eyes still watching me anxiously, as I casually walked over to where Dean and Harry were standing together, and I waved my hand for the lost ancients to follow.

I had no authority over them, so I just continued walking into the city walls.
