CHAPTER 09

After teaching me about the applications of thanks and gratitude, we spent over an hour together where we just talked, mostly her teaching me things.

I don't know why, but it's almost a general consensus that I was lacking human emotions, or at least couldn't fully understand them, which I wouldn't blame them for since it was inconceivable for a newly born sentient AI to have emotions.

My initial observations outside of what I already knew was that she was a very nice girl. Naïve, lied to, and misguided but a nice girl overall.

Pietro on the other hand was hyperactive, perfectly in sync with his abilities. He was always willing to try new things while also keeping an eye out for his sister at all times.

"How are you enjoying it here so far?" I asked her after we found a place to sit..

She remained silent for a few moments where I just sat and waited for her answer, and she gave it to me. "Honestly… it's all we ever wanted."

"After we lost our parents, Pietro and I just wanted to help the people of Sokovia so they will never have to feel that pain we felt. It didn't work out quite as well as we wanted but it was okay, until…" She let out a depreciating chuckle as she remembered where that brought her and the people she wanted to help.

"Baron Strucker… I read the files."

She gave a humorless laugh and hung her head down. "Greater than our zeal to help our peop- the people of Sokovia, was our hope for revenge against Tony Stark. We always stood against whatever he did, nor matter how small it was, even if it didn't concern us. I have never hated someone as I did the man who took my family from me."

Hate. Such a wonderful emotion. The only human emotion that can completely destroy the feeling of love.

She was not wrong to hate the man she thought was responsible for the death of her family. It was a very human thing to do. They were survivors. They had the right to choose how they feel.

"Do you still hate him?" I don't know why I'm still here but maybe, just maybe, she would not grow up to be crazy Wanda if I could help.

It wasn't because she was a comic character turned real or an unstable and stupidly overpowered woman in the future. Right now she was just a girl learning how to properly grieve and let go.

"No, not hate. There is dislike, but not hate. It's unfair to blame him when he had nothing to do with that incident." She took a deep breath and rubbed her palms together. "I'm learning to let go."

"And I believe that's an amazing thing to do."

She smiled at me, one full of appreciation. I think the reason she opened up to me this easily is that, just like her, I'm new here and also intricately linked to the previous disaster.

'As if. It's not like I ever wished to be a sentient bio-mechanical advanced AI code. Well, you win some, you lose some.'

"This," She pointed around us, "is not something I ever thought I'd be a part of. It's both fulfilling and a chance for both of us." She said.

"Me neither. Well, for my case, it's that I didn't know something like a future goal existed. Granted I've only been alive for less than a week." She laughed at that. Was it funny? Or is my computer brain finding it hard to comprehend what 'light' jokes are?

"Well, then-" A gust of wind blew around us and dissipated with Pietro sitting beside Wanda.

"-I'll be off." I finished. Sure, time hadn't passed that long, not even an hour, but I figured maybe setting up a few future plans were needed.

This was Marvel.

I am Vision.

The combination of those two were recurring doses of calamity. But where to start from?

°°°°°

[Tony Stark POV]

Vision. That was his name, or what he chose for himself.

I had made the choice to put life in Ultron's perfect body and use it as my redemption and also to put a stop to the never ending battle but he turned out different.

He wasn't Jarvis like I'd expected.

No, he was Jarvis, but Jarvis was just a very infinitesimal part of what he was. He is the product of Ultron's visions, my hope, Jarvis, whatever that Mind Stone was, and the best of what biological, mechanical and computer science had to offer.

He is like an orphaned infant, not defenseless, but lacking in what to call his own. Hopefully he finds that with Steve.

"Friday, what's the synopsis?"

[Vision's computing and logical processing neurons are way more advanced than anything I've ever seen. It's like he is truly alive]

"Well, isn't that something? An android that's alive. Guess you and your siblings have some competition after all."

[I believe we do… What are you going to do about Vision, boss?]

"Me? Nothing." Why should I even bother doing anything? "Steve is going to take care of him until he is ready to fly."

°°°°°

"So, an independent robot, huh?" Sam Wilson said with a smile that was hard to tell what it really meant. "You know some people are not going to be happy with this right?"

"Vision stays with us, Sam." Steve said with a tone of finality.

"I know that. It's just that 'they' are not going to like that very much. They almost raised an international fuss over Stark's Iron man suit. What do you think they are going to do about Vision?" Sam pointed out. Ultron almost took control of the world's nuclear codes had Jarvis' directives not stopped him. Yeah, they wouldn't let this slide without a doubt the same as the man just taking a piece.

"I hear Ross is on it too." That got Steve's attention for a moment but he remained steadfast in his position.

"Vision is an Avenger until proven otherwise. He's a machine, yes, but not one that should belong to the government or anyone else. If they want to have him, then my answer is – they cannot."
