Chapter 2: Stabbed

The TV placed right under the ceiling was, and music was playing while a bunch of men kept drinking.

Alex was just sitting and eating a plate of apple pie to remember his mother, who made him apple pie when he was a little boy.

Right beside him was a young man crying and drinking a strong vodka. "I can't believe my girlfriend would leave me... What on earth did I do??? And why would she choose my brother over me.".

Alex almost spat out his apple pie as he heard what the drunken young man said and forced himself to control himself.

The drunken teen looked at Alex with his face getting visibly red, "You think this is funny? Have you experienced what I experienced?" As he looked at Alex's clothes, his mood didn't get better, "Ah, so you're rich. Rich people like you will never understand what I go through. You guys get whatever you want."

Alex stood up and shook his head before leaving the bar, realizing it wasn't the place for him. He had to return home and get his daughters out; it was certainly not a time for self-pity.

As he exited the bar he could see two men waiting beside his car as the word of his now ex-wife rang in his ear, "If you die, the shares will be given to me.".

'She definitely sent those men to get rid of me! I've got to get away now!' He said before reentering the bar.

He then walked into the kitchen as the chefs shouted at him to get out. Still, he continued pushing forward through the wet floors until he reached the door, which was another exit out of the bar.

As he got out of the building again, he looked around and sighed in relief that the men he saw weren't there and quietly walked to the roadside and pulled out his phone.

He quickly opened a cab application and tried ordering a cab immediately. Still, his payment option was declined as he tried to pay for it. "This isn't supposed to be happening..." He said as he opened his bank application to see how much money he had left.

As he looked at his bank account information, it showed only one digit, $0. His hands shook as he stepped back, "This is... impossible. Even for the McDaniels, this should be impossible; how did they manage to take out my money without my permission!"

His 50 thousand dollars was now gone. But worse was that he could hear a sound behind him; as he turned to see what was making the sound, he could see the two men standing beside his car walking towards him.

Alex subconsciously ran and fell by twisting his legs, but got to his feet and ran as fast as he could, only to reach the nearest gas station that he could see.

But as he turned his back, he saw the men still following him with no problem.

"I can't outrun these men..." He mumbled as he took out a pen from his pocket.

As the men looked at Alex's pathetic attempt at self-defence, they took out their military-grade pocket knife, and as Arthur saw that, he dropped his pen. 'These guys, they are for real!'

One of them ran up to him and stabbed him from below, only for the knife to be blocked by Alex's hands. "Ah!" Arthur screamed as he felt the sharp pain in his bones.

As he looked at the blood on his hands, he felt dizzy. He raised his hands and covered his torso using the only fighting technique he had learned.

The man holding the knife looked at his accomplice and smiled, "It seems that he has learned a bit of boxing."

"Don't waste your time. Stab him and throw him by the river. That's how they want him dead, drowning in the river with blood flowing from his stomach." The man in the back said with a regular facial expression.

A look of hopelessness dawned upon Arthur, "There really is no escape..." He whispered to himself before he took out his wallet, where he kept a picture of his two daughters. "Kugh! You, girls, won't be seeing daddy today..." He said before tears started dropping on the image.

"Enough!" The man with the knife said as he stabbed Alex in the stomach.

All the strength in Arthur's body suddenly left with that stab. He immediately fell to the ground, almost screaming, before the man at the back closed his mouth with a cloth.

They both carried Alex and walked to the bridge where a river could be seen.

With all his strength, he kept his eyes open as he saw that they were about to throw him into the river; he tried moving and screaming, but they didn't listen, nor did they care and threw him into the river.

As his body fell, the cloth that covered his mouth came out and allowed him to talk, but before he could make any noise, his body entered the river causing whatever he tried to say to be nothing more than mumbles.

The only creatures hearing his cries for help were fish and algae.

The river continued pushing his body away from area after area hitting his body against a boulder in the water.

No matter how much he tried, the strength in his body was not enough to fight against the river stream.

And the only thing he could do was catch his breath; once in a while blood continued pouring from his hands and stomach.

His vision continued getting weaker, and Alex started bursting out in tears. "Why is my life so painful?? And why is it the same for my death!" But then he felt his back lying on a hard surface.

As he slowly got up with the pain in his stomach, he realized that he wasn't in the river anymore but on the river shore.

There was no energy in his body, and he felt hungry from the blood loss. "I'm gonna die..."He whispered with the strength he had left and took out his phone.

He was going to call his daughter, but before he could, a notification popped up, "You have completed a mission! Please click here to receive your gift!".
